Sheryl--I am so glad you had such a nice day!!:goodvibes .....I am living through all of you who are able to get outside and enjoy the day!!!

The one good thing about the snowy day is that I get to spend a lot of time "dissing" lord knows I have been chatty today...between being cooped up and the always full glass of wine.......

Speaking of Anne Boleyn...are any of you watching the Tudors on showtime? I missed the first season and am trying to catch up before the new one starts in March...........far far far etc back in my family tree I am related to Mary queen of Scots.....that is my one and only claim to fame......:snooty: bow if you feel worthy:rolleyes: :lmao: or just drink with me....:rotfl:

YUMM!

I had Pinot Noir tonight, it is a favorite of mine. You pictured a bottle of wine earlier but I could not see the label. I admit that I choose wine by the name and by the shape of the bottle :guilty:, and I liked that one :upsidedow

I did? I'll go back & check. Do you remember what food was with it?

All this talk of wine...I had a couple glasses of that too! Luna di Luna was on sale so I picked up a couple bottles. I had the Chardonnay/Pinot Grigio...it was very light and good.

Also, wanted to chime in about meatballs...some parts of Italy put raisins in the mix. That is good too. I think its a Sicilian thing.

Funny thing, I think I have mentioned that my BIL, who is now a retired Port Authority Cop, is an aquaintance of Mario's and has been on the show twice...well, since he is home he watches the cooking shows and cooks. The other day he was making Rachel Ray's Tuscan Bread Soup. I wish Tom would get in the kitchen more. He just mastered instant oatmeal and that is all I hear about. Even had to show me how to make it.

Hi Y'all,
Just back from our local fest & a visit to a new local dessert/beignet shop. So there will be no cooking nor anymore eating here tonight! ( There will be wine though!)

Lauren, I hope you like the Clos du Bois chard. I don't know if you like the buttery, velvety type of chardonnay, but another really good one is Merryvale. More expensive (about $18-20) but a really good quality wine for the price.

Sounds like you had an awesome day! :thumbsup2 That was really nice of the police to help you out today. Good things do happen...:)

I am sure I would love that wine. I drink anything and if I didn't it would make a great sangria...can't waste a drop...its alcohol abuse.

I am soooooo excited. The bathroom is starting to look like something...the tile floor is being layed as I type...

1st bottle is officially gone....no more white, now the quastion is do we move onto champagne in the fridge???

Sorry, OH ROYALNESS :worship: ;) to have made you sad about the weather. But it does sound like you're all warm & cozy with a good glass of wine! I might have to suscribe to showtime now, I love those "historic-ish"of mini-series. I was seriously hooked on Rome on HBO, (even though the violence, language and sex made me close my eyes & cringe.)

Thanks Lauren, it was a really nice day. But due to my dising DH has now put on sci-fi! It's cool that your BIL has been on with Mario! You & me are two of kind, that's what I do with not so good bottle of wine too! Make Sangria!

Speaking of wine, I think this is the one Nancy was wondering about. Pierre Sparr's gewurtz! Nancy, this is a very good wine! Really different from other whites, it's a little spicy. Sparr's is especially good!

I am so MAD I could throw my laptop across the room. KYLE told the coach his back felt great......coach said great, get in there and pitch.....they rocked him. This is just so wrong in so many ways. I don't care about the stupid game, I'm concerned about my son's future. Kyle will do and say anything to get in the game, he'd been pressured all week. I threw a fit, Johnny & the coach told me, he'll be fine, we'll pull him if he starts hurting. I could tell from the first pitch he was in pain, but what do I know I'm just a MOM.......sorry for the rant. Hopefully someone learned a lesson from this.:sad1:

I'm so sorry!

I can't believe some of y'all have snow! It was a gorgeous warm day today - near 80 and bright sunshine. I'm so glad spring is near!!

Today was nutso - we had a family reunion on DH's side and they served brisket, smoked turkey, etc. VERY tasty.

I fly out in the morning for Charlotte, NC and then will be driving to Asheville. I'm really excited about visiting there - it seems like a place I'd love to live one day. It's another conference and I love the people that come. Everyone knows about our "situation" as well so we'll be in the company of supporters - many of whom have 'been there' before.

I'll try to check in from my hotel - otherwise I'll never get caught back up!

This happens here too...it will be either the military channel or he will visit the forums that he frequents...

Have a safe, fun trip. I know its work related but the last one you went to seemed enjoyable.

Sheryl-- This sounds sooo good (Pierre Sparr's gewurtz) I love a spicy white!! and I appreciate you understanding the fact of my royalty...;) !!!

We are going out with my in-laws today after church so I don't have to cook tonight.

WFD at your house?

ETA: Scott is in the kitchen making himself scrambled eggs. I am scared to see this outcome :headache::scared1:

That's it! Now, don't you think that is a bottle that you cannot pass by? Poor Buddy, who cannot catch a break here lately, gets reds named "Red Truck" "Old Fart" and "Relax" depending on my mood, but I like whites.

I'm glad that your day was fun! Have a good time at the conference.

The chimichangas were very good last night. I think a few more minutes in the oven to get them crispier would have been good. The girls figures that they were 4 points apiece. They usually get wraps that are one point apiece but these were 2 I think. Erica found a wrap that was 21 Grams of fiber but she was a little afraid to try that one. I told her if it keeps her points down try it, I can make cardboard taste good if it is wrapped around some of the sandwich fillings I make for the girls when they scrap here.

The pizza was very good as well. I used turkey bacon and turkey pepperoni and used Colby cheese instead of mozzarella.

Today we have a wake, a friend passed away unexpectedly, and then pork chops with pineapple chutney. The girls are going to work on dinner while I am gone so I don't know what else they want with it.

Lindsay- no cooking at all this weekend?????? Lucky girl!

Yup! Sweet, eh?? :) And tomorrow I have the pleasure of making Glynis roast :)

Need some help here.
I have a friend who wants to serve and easy (simple) meal that is really impressive. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks. I stil mostly lurk but use so many of the recipes here:)

what type of ingredients and how many people?

I am doing something easy with chicken. Maybe grilled chicken salad, which we never had on Friday - got chinese instead - or maybe quesadillas.

Have a great day!

Nancy - I only printed Lauren's recipe, I didn't keep it on my computer. I just read through it (it's pretty long), it's the sauce recipe, not a meatball recipe.

I use:

1 lb. grd. beef
1 lb. grd. pork
1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
2 eggs
garlic
parsley
salt & pepper
romano cheese
olive oil

I've never had a problem with them falling apart. Have you tried pre-cooking them before you put them in the sauce?

Heading out to the last baseball game of the weekend, hopefully I'll be home by noon to get this pot of spaghetti goodness started!

Thanks Kat! I use basically all the ingredients that Kathy and the others have posted. A couple things I do...soak the breadcrumbs in milk prior to adding to the mix and adding them raw to the sauce and gently stir, cover and simmer on low for about 15 - 20 minutes.

No real numbers of guests at this time--not a big amount I would guess.
No limit on ingredients, just not something super expensive or hard to find.

Hmmm, there are alot of great recipes here. Something easy, can be made ahead and really good that comes to mind is Kathy's Bolognese Sauce. Its too die for!!!

Here it is:

Kathy's (TigerKat) Spaghetti with Bolognese Sauce
1 tbsp. EVOO
2 onions, finely chopped (3 cups)
3 carrots, finely chopped (1 cup)
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. ground pork
1/4 c. tomato paste
Coarse salt, ground pepper and any other seasoning or herbs of your choice
1 c. dry white wine
1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes in puree
1 c. milk
12 oz. spaghetti
Finely grated parmesan

In a Dutch Oven or 5 Qt. saucepan, heat oil over high heat, add onions, carrots and garlic; cook stirring until slightly softened, about 2 minutes, Add beef & pork; cook, breaking up meat with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Stir in tomato paste; cook 1 minute. Season generously with salt, pepper and any other seasonings or herbs you've chosen.

Add wine and tomatoes. bring to a simmer; cook partially covered, stirring occasionally until thickened about 1 hour. Add milk; simmer until completely absorbed, about 15 minutes more. Taste and season again. I normally let it simmer on a very low heat until we're ready to eat. At this point it's ready to serve with pasta & freshly grated parmesan cheese.

Becky--the food pics looks as always delish!! Do you own a home in St. John?

HA HA! NO.... However, John and I are the proud owners of a second home. We've had it since 1997. It's the weirdest thing, though. The bill comes in the mail every month for the mortgage, but I've never actually seen the house! We have a good name for it though...LAW SCHOOL LOANS. Maybe when the mortagage is paid off in another 20 years or so this mystery house will finally materialize! ;)

Becky- DO you remember what Anne Boleyn was beheaded for? The movie seemed to take license and I was wondering if they exaggerated her treason. The movie had her and her brother beheaded for treason and incest after she lost a baby.

No, that is actually correct. She was accused of witchcraft, incest, treason, a whole bunch of stuff. It was all concocted of course. Henry VIII was a weird dude.

far far far etc back in my family tree I am related to Mary queen of Scots.....that is my one and only claim to fame......:snooty: bow if you feel worthy:rolleyes: :lmao: or just drink with me....:rotfl:

:worship: I bow to you, oh great one! :)

Here are photos from last night.

Today's linner is going to be very early, and frankly, a little bland. John leaves at 2 PM for Portugal so I wanted to make something that would not upset his stomach or cause him to smell funny on the plane. I am just roasting a turkey breast, making some mashed potatoes, and roasting some asparagus.
