What's Everyone making for Christmas Dinner?

Christmas Eve it will be seafood (shrimp and scallops) with rice pilaf or pasta, salad, and drinks.

Christmas Day we will have a large standing rib roast, a pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, and lots of hors d'oeuvres...yum!

we just decided on prime rib. We had no idea until I started reading thru this post. It's going to be just us this year as my grandfather is very sick and wouldn't do too well making the day at our house. I suggested my mom stay home w/them vs coming to our house.

We had thought about going to my parents, but we are there until about 12 mindnight on xmas eve and they live 1 hour 15min away. It's way too much, not to mention on my kids, but i"m 5 months pregnant.

Breakfast, a close friend of mine makes the best sticky buns I have ever had, so she makes up a batch for me and we have them w/egg nog to pick on in the am. Sometimes I'll make a french toast cassarole or something for a little later.

Our day is mostly egg nog and scotish shortbread all day long!! I've always had my nana's left over shortbread as we are around the tree xmas am.

Reservations?

LOL! We are going to Jamica for Christmas and will eat at the hotel!

Even though they are adults now, DD's would never let me vary the holiday menus!
Christmas eve is always pizza while we watch our favorite holiday movies.
Christmas breakfast is Eggs Benedict and mimosas (hey, gifts look a lot better with a little champagne under your belt!)
Christmas dinner is roast beef, twice baked potatoes, DD's special mushroom casserole, and assorted veggies.
Hope you all have a great one!

"Baked French Toast (Paula Deens recipe)" - I would love a copy of that recipe!

We are doing:

Christmas Eve - our house
crab legs
shrimp
rolls
salad
veggies/dip
cookies
hot Christmas punch

Christmas Day - mom's house
lasagna
garlic bread
jello mold salad
green bean casserole
salad
assorted appetizers
cookies

after Christmas celebration with dh's extended family -
I'm bringing homemade mints and turtles for dessert

I will be helping my mother as I go to my parents' for Christmas but the menu never really deviates from:
Starter- Prawn and smoked salmon salad and melon
Main- Turkey, roast potatoes, carrot and turnip, peas, cranberry sauce, bread sauce, stuffing, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, pigs in blankets (sausages wrapped in bacon) and gravy (a turkey roast dinner is pretty much the tradition here in the UK on Christmas day, probably more along the lines of what Americans have on Thanksgiving)
Dessert- Christmas pudding with brandy sauce

We are having meat pie for Christmas dinner. My mother is making it and I am bringing cranberry cheesecake bars. I am not sure what else she is making.

I make a really great Crock Pot Ham. I buy a cooked ham, put it in the crockpot with 1 can crushed pineapple and 3/4 c brown sugar. Fill the crock pot with Coca-Cola and cook on low for about 5 hours or so. Melt in your mouth ham!

We are also having:
Holiday Potatoes
Strawberry Pretzel Salad
7-Layer salad
Cranberry Bread
Sweet Potato Souffle
Mashed Potatoes
Wine

Dessert is:
4 Layer Pumpkin Cake
Oreo Truffles
Pumpkin Pie
Coffee

Yummy!

Kpadalik,
Do you think this would work with a Spiral ham? I would have to get a bigger Crock Pot, if I can even find one large enough, but it would be a lot cheaper then one of those roaster things I was thinking of getting.

Has anyone watched the movie "A Christmas Story"....the one where Ralphie begs for a Red Ryder BB gun? In that movie, the family ended up going out for Chinese food on Christmas, because a dog ate their turkey. :lmao:

Since more than half of our family members are vegan, we don't do a traditional Christmas dinner. Instead, we have a theme each year. For example, some themes from the past have been:

All appetizers
Red, white and green food
Italian food
African food
Indian food
Medieval English foods
Food starting with the letter "p" (like our last name)

I know there have been many more but can't think of them off the top of my head.

Anyway, this year we decided to do "Barack Obama" as the theme. We're not American, but we think his election was a significant event. So we're planning our menu today - our plan is to have foods that reflect the various parts of his heritage - things from Hawaii, Kenya, Chicago, and maybe more. We don't worry too much about being authentic, it's just a theme to make the meal more fun.

We had a Christmas celebration at my mom's yesterday. She served all our favorites from growing up, buffet style:
Lasagna
biscuits
Meatballs
baked beans
green bean casserole
homemade mac and cheese
tossed salad
Homemade cake

For our own Christmas dinner, we're having ham with brown sugar glaze, mashed red potatoes, and bread of some kind. I used to do a full spread, but since it's just DH and I, I just make our favorites. If it's not a totally balanced meal, who cares? It's Christmas!

I love reading everyone else's take on Christmas dinner. Very cool.
We are having;
Spiral sliced ham
cheesy scalloped potatoes
fresh steamed green beans
salad
rolls
pumpkin pie
and another dessert that I can't think of (my aunt is bringing it)

Can't wait!

We're doing ribs for Dinner Christmas Eve and DH's making Lasagna New Years Eve. We're going to IL's for Christmas day and we're having spiral ham (we bought) and lots of sides and pie.

Our Christmas dinner is the same every year, but we look forward to it:

Prime rib
Twice baked potatos (a lot of work but sooooo good)
broccoli
corn
dinner rolls

Christmas Eve is a bit less traditional. Each memeber of the family got to pick their favorite thing to eat. The votes:

DH: Ribs
Me: Artichoke dip and red wine :thumbsup2
DD9: Ribs
DS7: Ribs
DS5: Cheese pizza

Should be an interesting meal:rotfl: .

Many of the foods are made 2x as my youngest is allergic to milk so I make smaller portions for her without milk, plus have her own butter, ice cream and milk. Also we split up the dishes between family member..those who can't cook bring wine, beer, bread, soda, or things that can be purchased already made! It makes it easier for the host..this year it is all at my mom's house (except xmas am)

I grew up with the tradition of oyster stew, but now we'll turn it into a variety of seafood meal

Christmas Eve is at home with just DH, DS and me:

shrimp cocktail
beef tenderloin
twiced baked loaded baked potatoes
steamed green beans with butter
yeast dinner rolls
cranberry cake with caramel sauce

Christmas Dinner is at DB's house with DSIL, my niece and nephew, Dad and his wife. We go with pretty much the traditional dinner from our childhood:

shrimp cocktail
cucumber sandwiches
little smokies in BBQ sauce
cheese, sausage and crackers

HUGE standing rib roast (larger than each of our kid's birthweights :rotfl: )
cheesy mashed potatoes
caesar salad
rolls
Christmas cookies and cherry cheesecake

After having the traditional dinner for Thanksgiving and throwing out WAAAY too many leftovers we have decided to break away from the traditional for Christmas. We will be grilling chicken and burgers with a green salad on the side. No desserts with the exception of fresh fruit.

Wow, there are some fun ideas for menus here. I have Christmas eve here, usually about 25 people. The last two years I made Prime Rib and both times it came out welldone even though I was aiming for medium. Every bit was eaten though.
I think I am going Italian this year.

Meat lasagna
cheese lasagna
meatballs
sausage, peppers and onions
tossed salad
garlic cheese bread

Christmas morning
eggs
bacon and sausage
egg nog french toast

My husband and I started to go to the movies in the afternoon when the kids leave for other families. We have been doing this for 12 years. The last 3 years the theatres have be jammed with families.

When we come home I am going to make a Prime rib, broccoli souffle, garlic mashed potatoes.
