What's a TX girl to do... no Mexican?

I don't know if I can make it 7 days without a margarita and chips! :lmao: Sounds like the San Angel is not that great, and the Maya is more traditional Mexican, and not Tex-Mex. Any suggestions?

San Angel Inn is ok. It is more traditional Mexican than Tex-Mex. I actually like it. So, if it is Tex-Mex you are going for don't go to San Angel Inn. Last year my ds9 said, "Yuck, this isn't Mexican food. It has no flavor!" He is so used to very spicy Tex-Mex, he just couldn't handle the blander tasting traditional food.

you can get margarita and chips & salsa and San Angel Inn.

Just stick to the basics, and order the nachos - they are yummy. Also the queso was good too (it came with flour tortillas, but you can use your chips with it too). It'll be ok.

Just don't go for the enchiladas or other choices, because it won't be our beloved Tex Mex. I tried some once and discovered the hard way. But the above choices are good, and actually last time the salsa was a little spicy!

Unfortunately, the queso fundido is no longer on the menu at SAI. The nachos are a good substitute, though. Also, according to DH and my DDs, the quesadillas are a good choice if you want the more typical tex-mex fare.

Oh, girl! Just SKIP SA. Really. I moved from DFW to BFE Alabama where these is NO Tex-Mex anywhere. A place that claimed to be Tex-Mex served me some 'grilled' steak that was basically steamed and covered in tomato sauce. What the HECK?!

So when we went to Disney I was so psyched about getting some Mexican at SA. It stunk. AND they swore to me no nuts (my littlest one has a severe nut allergy) and they brought out a sundae with nuts on top!

I could have cried. That was my ONE and only disappointing meal at Disney and I will never return. It was dark, messy and not good. Not even worth it for a so-so drink and stale chips. If you are spoiled on good Tex-Mex then don't waste your time!

San Angel Inn is quite good. It is traditional Mexican food, not tex mex though. If you want tex mex you can probably hit the chevy's across the street from the marketplace area, if it is still open.

The Nachos, chips, salsa, all great at San Angel. The pork is fantastic.

Every region of Mexico has their own way of doing things, can't remember what region San Angel is. It is definately worth a shot though. And, the margarita's are good, lol.

Go to Franciso's at the CSR...they open at 4PM
Great "Rita's and they provide salsa and chips. They have a small menu too.

San Angel Inn is quite good. I got a chicken dish that was fantastic. Don't remember what its called?

I love the look and back-drop of the resturant too :thumbsup2

The atmosphere alone makes eating at San Angels worth it. We've been eating there for 10 years and I can tell you that the quality of the food has dropped significantly, The service over the past 10 years has never been good but, the atmosphere and food always brought us back. Now that the food quality has gone south, the restaurant received its second strike and it's now out for us. If you've never eaten there though, I would highly recomend it.

We went to San Angel in March 2005 with our DDs. We are trying to eat at a different country every Disney trip. We enjoyed the food at San Angel ... good traditional mexican food but our service was very poor. I don't think it would stop us from trying it again though. The atmosphere is great!

As a fellow Texans, I can feel your pain. We were there for 10 days and by day 5 we were dying! We rented a car for 2 days of our trip, so we were on the hunt for Tex Mex. We went to Chevy's at the Crossroads. We had been there on our previous trip and it was fairly good. The one shocker was that they ran out of chips!!!! We went back anyway and enjoyed the fajitas AND they had plenty of chips. There is also a Don Pablos in the area, I think down I-4. We have yet to find anything on property that we care for.

San Angel is a great atmosphere to dine. Mexican food varies greatly, even in Mexico. My daughter-in-law is Mexican and we like our food spicy hot. Didn't find real hot dishes at SA but the food is fair. People have trouble if they think Mexican food should be made one way only, just like Italian food. So if you're not willing to try other dishes or other ways of preparation don't leave home. Try one of their big Margaritas and you'll be fine. You can get a huge plate of nachos at the ESPN club on the BW and any drink you want. It's a big world out there don't be afraid to experience it!

Have a good time :cool1:

I guess my point was that the OP was looking for Tex-Mex and this is NOT Tex-Mex. With the very poor service, language barrier etc I wouldn't suggest going if you are looking for what Texans consider Tex-Mex.

Personally, I loved the San Angel Inn. My first time eating there was in June '05 and my family has made it a must do. Give it a go! Virgin strawberry margaritas are a definate! :thumbsup2

Thank God the SA isn't Tex-mex... I'm tired of "Mexican" places passing themselves off as Mexican when in reality they serve Tex-Mex, which is very different in spite of the Mex part... Kind of like the difference between ordering Lobester in New England or in Florida - it's the same old cockroach of the sea, but they are very different and taste almost nothing alike...

If you want Tex-Mex, as has been mentioned, hit a Don Pablo's (mostly Tex-mex) or a Chevy's or any of the other nameless chain/local places in Orlando (and every other city in the country) that claim to be Mexican but are truly Tex-mex... :firefight :stir:

Real Mexican food doesn't have to be spicy!!!!! :thumbsup2

I lived in Southern Cal growing up and now live in Texas and while Tex-Mex is good, it's not really authentic to Mexico (unless you're talking right by the border :rotfl: ). If you're looking for Tex-Mex, hit Chevy's- we enjoyed that.

SAI, was just okay (even by my So. Cal. standards). I had the chicken mole, which is one of my *favorites* and I was totally underwhelmed. It has a great atmosphere, but I'd skip it and just take the Rio Del Tiempo ride. ;)

People used to think I was crazy because I could eat at SAI for lunch and then go to Chevy's for dinner. (on the same day.) I try to tell them that Mexican and Tex-Mex are two different meals.

At SAI the best two things on the menu is the Sope's and the Sopa.
Sope is a chicken tostada type thing with salsa verde.
sopa is a chicken soup.
these are very good and some of the best I have ever had.
The rest of the menu is ok.
Atmosphere is great
service has never been bad for me.
