Whatever happened to "Rescue 911?"

oh my goodness, I totally forgot about that show. I used to love it. Man, I miss that show.

This was one of the few shows the whole family watched together. It was always such a suprise when someone actually didn't survive.

LOL...great question! I totally forgot about that show! It was really popular in its hayday. I remember once I was at my friend's house when I was maybe 8 years old...and my friend's mom had to call my mom to make sure it was okay that I watched the show (I guess they thought it was really traumatic!)

I remember watching that and "unsolved mysteries." Unsolved mysteries freaked me out at times but I still watched it every week!! :confused3

I can distinctly remember some of the episodes.

Do you remember the episode with the babysitter who went to the freezer to get (I think) an icecream and since the item was really far back in the freezer, she had to reach and tippy toe and as she did, she stuck her tongue out and it stuck to the freezer. One of the kids she was watching called 911 and held the phone to the babysitter and they had the actual call on tape. While it was not funny what happened, the way she was talking was hilarious. Imagine talking while having your tongue stuck out. Poor girl.

Isn't that show still on Lifetime? Or some cable network? If it's not anymore, it was very recently.

Know what freaked me out about that show? The host! He always wore so much makeup--our family called him the walking corpse!

Oh my gosh. Watching Rescue 911 was a weekly tradition in my house growing up. LOL! :)

Oh yeah! I actually know that girl who stuck her finger through the desk and got it stuck!

It was actually a male babysitter and I know that because he's my dad's best friend's son!!! The actor, not the person it happened to in real life. :) He said the fake tongue was really plasticy and gross and had to stand there for hours to get the shots. :) Too funny!!

Oh my gosh...we used to watch this show all the time. The one that traumatized me was the one where the father went into the basement to fix the furnace, and there was a gas leak that no one knew about and the whole thing blew up...

it gave me nightmares for months.

The best part was, of course, the dramatic way William Shatner said, "Rescue....9...11." :)

We used to watch that show every week, too. DD was very young at the time so it gave me a good opportunity to talk to her about what could happen if she did something like play with matches or the stove. We were really disappointed when it went off the air. I wish they would bring it back, but without William Shatner.

No, no must have William Shatner. :love2:
I don't think anyone else would be as good in that role.

I used to love that show too! I also remember some of the episodes. I used to watch it all the time with my parents when I was little. I catch it occasionally on some random channel at some random time.

The one that scarred me for life was the one with the girl was home alone. She had just gotten out of the shower and 2 men were knocking on the door and they were walking around the house peeking in the windows and knocking on all the doors. She didn't answer the door and they broke in. She hid under the bed in her room and called 911 from there. That one scared me sooo bad. When I am home by myself, I think about it sometimes and I get all freaked out. I have to go around the house and make sure all the doors and windows are locked and make sure that my dog is close to me. LOL.
