I was having this conversation with some work friends a couple weeks ago.

Here's the situation we were discussing.

There's a young girl who cuts herself. Her friend, who has been in self mutilation therapy for 3 months (she hasn't cut for 2 months) lets the girl have her razor which she sanitizes before giving it to her.

Now what are your opinions? Would a good friend step off, let her figure it out herself and give her the sanitized razor, or would a good friend have notified her parents and asked the girl to stop?

Discuss.

told her to stop. ESPECIALLY if she had just gone through it.

it's crazy what people will do to themselves. i just feel so badly for them.

Is this a real situation or a hypothetical one?

Anyways, I think it's ridiculous. Thats like someone coming out of drug rehab passing their friend a line, but worse. Def. not good friend behavior.
I've had some first hand expirience with the issue of cutting. No good friend would help their friend cut. They also wouldn't ignore it if they knew about it. A true blue friend would tell their friends parents. Sure their friend would be hella pissed at them, but they'd be thanking them in the long run.

Thats just flippin ********. "

I went through cutting, so let me put someone else through it. I'll sanitize the razor, that'll make it better!"

Idiots.

I'm sorry Paula.

Yes, I couldn't believe some of them (adults) were saying a good friend would have given them the razor and let them figure it out by themselves.

The stuff I've heard over the last few weeks, it's the adults that have problems too.

I was in a situation similar to this. My friend... We'll call her Fi has had problems.. but she's been to therapy and now she's over it. Now my friend Mac is discovering her "problems" and first thing she told me I ran to her parents and told them. I know I did the right thing. I just need reminded sometimes. It'll be hard when she finds out that I told them... but hey... it's for the best.

Yes it is for the best.

And whoever asked, yes this is a real situation involving some of my friends.

BTW, I never would have guessed this about her. I knew about my other friend. But well long story...I did tell her aunt (her guardian) if you were wondering. But I can't believe my other friend would do this, I mean she's been talking about how great it feels to be free from cutting.

so the girl hadn't cut herself for to months but maybe she still think'ss it's a way to solve her problems perhaps she's not compltetly over it and thought she was helping her friend by giving her a razor:confused3

She needs to get help, so she can find another way to deal with her anger.

Anger? Cuttings not always about anger. It's normally about self-hatred.

Well every person I know/knew who does/did cut, is because they have a large amount of anger. I guess its different with each person.

Maybe anger towards themselves?

Every person I know who does/did do it, did it because they hate themselves. They're so messed up, that's the only thing that could take the pain away.

i cant believe anyone would even THINK about saying let the friend figure it out. she definitely needs to get some help.
