What'cha bet HP will end the Uni/Dis factions

To me there are only a few categories of parks.

You have Disney and Universal at the top of the food chain, I will put them on equal footing.

Next you have 6-Flags, Cedar Point, and the Busch Gardens Parks. Some 6-Flags are better than others. Some are glorified fly by night carnivals. Some are great with 30 million dollar 200ft.plus mega coasters, like LA and Dallas, similar to Cedar Point which is the roller coaster capital of the world. BG has more themeing than the 6-Flags parks and Tampa has a nice zoo as well, but BG are beaten on the super coaster aspect by CP and 6-Flags.

Then you have the Kings Dominion, Hershey, Silver Dollar City etc., which IMO are slightly less in quality/thrills etc., than the above, but are still very decent parks.

Then you have the bottom of the line which are like Magic Springs in Hot Springs Arkansas. Pretty tame IMO and these types of parks I can totally pass on. After you've done Universal, these types of parks are really hard for me to get excited about. I think I'd rather stay in or at the pool and drink.:woohoo:

I'm shocked!

You're an annual passholder and you think Universal is a GLORIFIED Six-Flags? What? Are you kidding me here? :confused3

I think Tink's Tormentor is actually kidding us here since they actually posted this not too long ago:

I am a huge Disney fan. I have been to Sea World and Universal. SeaWorld was OK but I didn't care much for Universal. I just feel like the park is dated. A few refurbs and updates will help greatly. I know people who like Universal and cannot stand Disney, and of course, vice versa... People have their own tastes, likes, and dislikes... So be it... No one should bash the other.... I prefer not to go to Universal since I do not enjoy it.. But I have been there a few times and gave it a chance... :)

Doesn't sound like they would have annual passes if they actually felt this way in 2006.

I just want to clarify - I regularly take my rude teenagers who think they own the world to both WDW and Universal parks. So I know for a fact they are at Disney from time to time. They could be the only ones though. Seriously, visit Disney during grad nites or magic music days and you'll see plenty of teenagers.

And - if Six Flags over GA was equal to a Universal park, I'd be there every week! Unfortunately there is nothing remotely similar to MIB at SFOG.

But to answer the OP's question: will HP end the Uni/Dis factions? I doubt it. I can't tell you how many times I have read the following statement from Disney fans "HP may actually give us a reason to visit Universal". Like Universal wasn't worthy of their presence prior to HP. I think some will come for HP and be pleasantly surprised of the top notch theming and attractions. But there will always be a few who won't think USF can measure up to WDW and will nit pick it to death.

I don't visit these boards daily, but I've popped in from time to time for several years. I have read quite a few negative threads about Universal, but I've never read a thread posted in the Universal forums that specifically bashed Disney. I think the majority of members who post regularly in the Universal forums are Disney lovers at heart, they have just found another home to love!

I think a lot of Disney fans are too damn stubborn to admit there is another park that is just as good as Disney World- SHOCK HORROR!

I was reading the DIS for many weeks before I ever decided to join & there's many things that are plain to see:

First, you're always going to have fanatics on either side, that's just the way the world is. Some speak in mannered truth while others speak in plain ignorance.

Second, people who speak negatively are those who don't bother opening their minds. If Disney fanatics want to complain about UO, let them, it's some-what entertaining to read. Likewise for UO fanatics, they've probably outgrown Disney or have no desire to go. I've seen ridiculous accusations on both sides of these boards.

Lastly, I'm a big fan of both. (though I've been to UO 3 times in the past 4 years & haven't seen Disney in 11. ) I am planning a big trip soon though, but getting back to what I was saying. Disney holds the #1 spot in attendance and probably will for a long time. UO now has HP, which will undoubtedly boost their attendance. Even if HP makes such a dramatic impact that it brings them to the #2 spot or even #1 spot, this will not change the views of the fanatics. So to answer the thread's question I think no, there will always be people ready to debate about anything.

Now, if I may add: UO needs this boost in attendance badly not only for them but for their future. If they get sold off to another company then who knows what can happen, same goes for Disney. Being in their current situation and judging them from their past experiences, Disney is most likely going to wait & see what the outcome will be. Sure they'll "upgrade" some of their rides & add a few new ones but for the most part, they probably feel like they don't have too. Even though I enjoy the shorter lines at UO, I sure hope HP converts a lot of Disney fanatics over to their side. Hopefully this will affect attendance so much that Disney will have to act & put some much needed money in the parks. Who knows, if that happens then maybe UO will retaliate with more rides and the cycle will begin again. Trust me guys, when things like these occur and they are done right, we are the ones who win, no matter which park we think is best. :thumbsup2

I honestly think some stubborn closed-minded disney fans will go to UO for one say just to say thy have been and WDW is still better. They need the reassurance. Not all, don't get me wrong but there will always be those who are like that.

Can't people just enjoy both parks? I am an annual passholder for both Universal and Disney... They offer two different kinds of fun... True, Disney has more to do, and blows the competition out of the water, but Universal, what they lack in creativity and amusement, make up for it in thrills... Universal is a glorified Six Flags.. and there is nothing wrong with that... As for the kinds of crowds the two parks bring in: Disney bring in families with screaming kids and rude parents.. Universal brings in rude teenagers who think they own the world.. Face it, both parks have pros and cons....

Perfect example - textbook in fact of a hit and run post. Where's that Mets fan from CT? LETS GO METS

Anyway they post and leave. Does he (or she I guess) get it!

exactly...called "healthy competition" :thumbsup2 (everyone seems to forget WE all win!)

I thought we both agreed to let this thread die. You just couldn't resist could you? Did the six flag hit and run bother you?? Are you guys getting defensive?? :rotfl:

Just for fun, one of the obvious Universal die hards should go over to TPA&S and post something along the lines of "I went to Disney today and really, it a glorified six flags" and see how serious everyone takes it. It would be a fun field experiment.

hhmmmmm :scratchin .....tempting.........

(or maybe they will click on the link in the bottom of my sig)

Eh people who post things like Universal is a glorified 6 Flags either don't have a clue or they're just trolling. I figure it's probably wisest just to ignore them.

Personally I like both Universal and Disney even though Universal is my favorite at this time. I intend to enjoy both and will TRY to ignore the bashing on both sides even though critical discussion can be fun. But sometimes it is fun to see the fanatics go a bit overboard. ;)

:rotfl2: My kids were the same.

That's what I think is the most likely scenario also.

Hopefully, you'll pop in more often. Your post was great and I like your sense of humor.
:thumbsup2

You guys are probably right. HP will convert probably about 60% and the remaining 40% will stilil nit pick it to death and say its ok but its no disney etc., etc.

There loss is our gain. As someone else mentioned, lets hope not anyway, cuts the crowd level down at U.:lmao:

Leaving in 2 days, Friday I'm off and running, beach at Ft. Walton for the weekend, then Monday its check in at RP CAN"T WAIT!!!!!!!

Let me know if anyone wants me to check out anything while I'm there.

Actually, I purchased my annual pass for Universal this year... I decided to give it another chance... I felt as if I was not being fair to Universal... It is true I am a huge Disney fan, and yes, I prefer Disney to Universal... But, when you go for 10-14 days like I do, there is only so much of Disney's parks you can do, so, i figured why not give Universal a try again...

there are plenty of things I like in Universal, mainly the Spider-man ride... which, I have said in the past, is the best ride I ever been on, even better than anything in Disney... To me, the ride experience on Spider-man is worth the price of admission...

Maybe saying Universal is a glorified Six Flags was a bit much... As I said, there are things to like and dislike in both parks.... So, there ya go... I have decided to spend some more time in Universal and to enjoy what Universal offers instead of comparing it to Disney all the time...

That's fine by me, if the crowds are still at lower levels won't hurt my feelings. I personally would put them on a completely even par, although disney has more parks. I've always thought MGM was a bad rip-off of Universal and is not that great of a park at all in general IMO. And I already know supposedly MGM was planned before Universal, but I don't buy it.

And I think Universal has absolutely surpassed Disney in several areas, but as far as both being the 2 greatest parks, I still put them on equal footing.

As you can see, I came back so this wasn't a hit and run... Please read my last post as I state that maybe my comment about Universal being a glorified Six Flags was a bit much....

MGM was actually just going to be a pavilion in Epcot designed for the movies... Basically, one huge Great Movie Ride.... I am sure the announcement of Universal Studios Orlando pushed Eisner to greenlight an entire MGM Studios theme park.... I would not agree it is a rip off, but, for sure it was done only cause of USO... And you can tell it was not planned very well as crowd flow stinks there.... MGM has a long way to go before it is a great park... Actually, it is my least favorite of the 4 Disney World parks...

I agree, I think MGM could be a great park if it put in about 3 or 4 Spiderman/Jurassic Park type level rides. Its only lacking about 3 or 4 great rides and it would be a great park. TOT and RRC are a decent start, but they are not enough to make a great park. IMO

That's a good attitude to take. I suspect you may grow to love Universal too. And thanks for coming back to the thread and clarifying.
