What?!

I'd probably say to my mom "Your friend Sue came up to me at the Smith's picnic and repeated a lot of the things about me that you said to her. I would advise you to choose more carefully who you speak to, since she can't keep her mouth shut when she's drunk. I'd also tell you that I will not be telling you anything anymore in confidence, because clearly you can't keep a confidence and I'd prefer not to be the topic of discussion for your drunked friend".

Touchy situation... If it bothers you (which it obviously does) go ahead and talk to your mom about it... but, people need someone to vent to. She vented to someone that she figured doesn't really know you. I'd rather have it that way than someone I am closer to knowing all my faults!!

And, FWIW, so what if your hubby drives you to work?? Alot of families have to get by with 1 car... it's nothing that is looked down upon, IMO

Ugh. Your mom was wrong, wrong, wrong!
There's no way my mom would ever talk about me or my siblings like that... not even with her closest friend.

I disagree with those who are saying your mom was "venting". If you did something that hurt your mom (forgetting her bday, etc) and she was sharing that with her friend... that would be venting.

People need to realize that the minute they open their mouths, their comments have the potential of getting back to the person they're talking about.
