My first trip was in 1992 with my grandmother. She had been going to Disney, gee probably since the 70's...After her youngest child turned 18 she started taking each grandkid in March or April. I was the first to go because I was the first grandchild born...I was 10.
We had a great time. I wasn't really a Disney kid (I knew the "famous movies", but my mom wasn't big into Disney, so while I was excited I had no idea how special it was going to be).
Before the trip my grandma took me on a "shopping spree" where I got to buy all new clothes for the 8 day trip including a purse and wallet. She wanted to take me for a perm too but my mom said no
Anyway (gee this is getting long)...I might as well give a little aside. My parents were divorced and this was my dad's mom so I never really got to see her so much. It made me realize what I was missing; to see her so many days in a row. Little did I know at the time that she would be dead in 5 years due to cancer... I cherish that time we got to spend together and I always get choked up when I think about it.
Anyway, back to the trip. We stayed at Port Orleans resort. I thought it was complete luxury ( I had never been at a hotel). I loved the pool and the boat service. I liked being able to order any kind of food that I wanted. Grandma even let me have control of my own camera. I took a lot of weird pictures. I think my favorite ride of that trip was Pirates of the Carribean.
After that trip, after my grandmother passed; I always wanted to go back to Disney. When I got married in 2004 there was no question that we would be honeymooning in Disney. I just had to go back to POFQ and see if it was as magical as I remembered it; and it was.
