What would you put in a time capsule?

We are doing a time capsule for our family. We are moving into a new house and before they put the sheet rock up, we would like to seal a box of stuff in a wall just in case someone comes across it years from now after we're gone.

We are including information such as: photos of us, our ages, names etc., who the president and vice president are, current issues, popular celebrities, popular movies, the kind of cars we drive, when we're moving into our home, how we found the design, a newspaper from today, our religion and listing the hobbies and things we like to do.

Can you think of anything else that would be neat to have in there? I'm doing it based on the idea that it won't be opened for at least 100 years. I think it would be neat to find a family's time capsule like that from 100 years ago (or however many years) and read about them.

Cool idea :goodvibes How about the opinions of your family on current issues?
(i.e. the war, immigration, etc.) :)

That's cool. :cool1:

We did something like that when we remodeled our bathroom. We stuck all kinds of stuff behind the sheetrock. My old license plate, some Spongebob drawings by my DD and her friend. Some photos of our bathroom before and during remodeling.

I think we also threw a newspaper back there.

If you're into pop culture - throw in a People Magazine, a current CD or something. I'd be thrilled to find something like that 50+ years from now. :thumbsup2

How about a label from a few of your favorite foods. Another would be a weekly food store circular to see the prices now and then.

We have a time capsule too--it's a hollow iron post around which our spiral staircase is attached. Periodically I drop something in. :sunny: I love to think of somebody finding it in a 100 years! In addition to photos that identify DH and I as the owners who purchased the house in 1993, as well as photos of our animals who have lived in the house,I have also dropped in some coins, as well as some prehistoric shark's teeth from the creek behind our house.

I want to write a little bit about the history of our house--who owned it before us, and what their occupations were (the first owner was the architect and this was clearly his very first house because he made lots of mistakes! :goodvibes ), how the hurricanes of 2004 changed the look of the yard and creek, and how we feel about the house.

I also want to gather some little things that will give the finder an idea of what DH and I were like--you know, guitar pick & something computer-related from DH, a pair of earrings and something healthcare related from me.

Those are great ideas!! Thank you! I'm really having fun with this! I'm so into history- but not like you learn in school. I'm really into hearing about how people lived, what their personal lives were like and things like that. My MIL wrote a book that takes place around the turn of the century and it's all about people's lives. That's what inspired us to do the time capsule.

As we age, we're discovering that we have an interest in this type of history now, however, the "oldsters" in our families are gone. There's no one left to talk about the good old days-we're becoming the old generation. It'd be fun if our grandkids or great grandkids found our time capsule. I wear my grandmother's wedding ring and was thrilled to see it was engraved. That kind of stuff is so cool, imo.
