What Would You Pay Afterschool College Babysitters??

I posted this on the Families Board but thought the CB folks might have some good opinions, too. DD18 and her friend at school (college sophmores) have gotten a job this semester. They will be picking up 4 7th grade girls from school at 3:15 and keeping them until the moms all get home from work, by 6 at the latest. My daughter and her friend each have a car and will be driving the girls home from school, and on one day to a music lesson.

My daughter will do Mondays and Wednesdays, her friend will do Tuesdays and Thursdays, and they will both do Fridays together. How much do you think is fair for them to be paid?

They've already negotiated their own deal - just curious what you think you would do in this situation, so I'll know if they are getting a fair deal.

I would say about 15-20 per hour. It's not like the kids are little and need lots of attention to keep occupied, They will probably just do their homework and play outside.

I have no clue about the 7th grader part since by then most kids around here just come home, they don't have babysitters, but for my daughters age (7) for one kid its about 10.00 an hour, I would say at least 20-25 for 4 kids!

I'd say $200 to be split between the 2 girls. They're only each working 9 hours per week, so that's more than $10/hour. How much work can it be to just keep tabs on 7th graders?

Ah, bless you. They are getting $50 per week per girl, so $200 a week to split between both of them. I think they are doing great - a hundred bucks a week each for not much work, other than gas costs. They both have younger sisters the same age or thereabouts so they are well used to that age group, and they will mostly get homework done. They are going to have "Fun Fridays" so I know the girls will enjoy that!!!

I was just concerned that they had dramatically under or over priced themselves. Sounds like they are getting a fair deal!!!
