What would you object to your neighbors doing?

Allow their kids to play in our yard. We had that issue two years ago so we built a fence around our yard. One of the moms of the kids was SO mad when we did this. She believed that all yards were communal property because that's how it was like in their old home.

Just to be petty, she sets up an inflatable pool and a trampoline as close to the fence as possible to bother us. :rolleyes2 I just send my two dogs out into the backyard to put an end to that.

Anything that neighbors shouldn't be doing just happens to be all the things I would object to.

Playing drums and base guitar for hours every day. Having full on band practice in their house. We had to deal with this for almost 9 years. It was fine when the neighbor kid was young. But once he was high school age and graduated and it was just loud drumming and the amp on the guitar was turned up all the way, it was absolutely unbearable. The practice room was upstairs. Our houses are not that far apart. It would literally rattle the pictures on the wall in our room near theirs and you could hear the drum and guitar throughout the entire neighborhood. Worst was they had no consideration for neighbors and what time it was in the evening. They would play start to play at 9pm at night and play for an hour or two. One time they even started playing at midnight. And mom didn't care much when we asked them to turn the amp down or play within in reasonable hours.

What would I object to the neighbors doing? Oh, let me count the ways! All of these things have actually happened.

  1. walked into our front yard in the late winter to see if our tree was dead or alive (it's a deciduous tree, so it loses its leaves every winter).
  2. repeated demands to go and pick up 50+ lb boxes delivered to her front door, and demands for us to store in our house until she returned from vacation in 2 weeks.
  3. demands/orders for us to go to collect one of those "Hello Fresh" sort of deliveries by her front door because she was out of town and didn't want the food to go bad.
  4. 6+ months' worth of backyard construction, complete with regular jack hammering at 6:00 am on Saturday mornings.
  5. installation of enough backyard lights so that it's lit up like Las Vegas Blvd. So much light that it's light daylight in their backyard. So much light that I don't need outdoor lighting in MY backyard.
  6. having her relatives over for pool parties while she's out of town and the relatives leave all of their empty pizza boxes on the curb.
  7. demanding that I put astroturf in my front yard.
  8. repeated questioning as to why we're not putting a pool in the backyard.
  9. asking me if the neighbor on the other side of us is married, what does he do for a living, how come she never sees him, what is his name, etc., etc.
  10. not knowing what Hinduism is. This was on the 1st evening of Diwali and her next door neighbors on other side of her are from India.
  11. thinking that everybody celebrates Christmas, even Jews and Muslims.
  12. not understanding why everybody doesn't put up Christmas lights.
  13. repeated questioning about why she never sees my kids play out in the front yard on a busy street in 110 degree heat.
She's a character for sure.

When I was a kid, my parents had financial problems so they sold our house and rented one that had a full switchboard in the living room. They later learned from a neighbor that the house was available because the police found out that the former owners were operating a brothel there.

In the first house my college roomate rented after graduation her neighbors had several weddings in their small yard (it was a small house right beside a road). Oddly they were always on a random weekday. It was very odd...and very loud.

As long as they stay off my property, I don't really care. Now my one neighbor, her kids and my kids are friends and we have an open play policy on our yards. I'm fine with that because we both chose it.

Really the only thing is being obnoxiously loud at night, otherwise I don't care what they do. The kids in the neighborhood are always playing in my front yard, as long as they aren't destroying anything (they never have), I don't see a problem with it.

My one neighbor has a beautiful Muscle Car. He never drives it anywhere. But he does like to rev up the engine loudly for hours on end at times. Then he'll hit the gas pedal and go up and down his driveway. IMO he's a moron.

Neglecting kids, pets. Drug issues or drinking issues that are known .. and my own pet peeve… ur wife doesn’t allow u to smoke cigars inside ur home yet you’ll sit right at that line and smoke outside for hours 👎 literally have to leave and go Inside to escape the toxicity., 😎 coming into my
Space. Is what it is but I still despise it.

Well, today my next door neighbors let their dog out in the backyard, and he barks to be let back in when he is done with his business. It was 103 degrees today and they left him out for an hour barking. He is 16 years old. They both work at home, and apparently just can't be bothered to get up and let the dog in. I can barely hear the barking unless I listen for it. Noise isn't the issue. Leaving a dog out for an hour in 103 degree heat is the issue.
