What would you hate to receive as a gift?

Lotto tickets.
anything scented (body lotions, soaps, candles etc)

LOL - lots of things because I really don't enjoy getting gifts.

I agree scented things are the worst. I used to get little things at work sometimes and couldn't have them in my space, couldn't drive home with them in my car, and was always looking for a secret way to get rid of them so I could breathe without hurting anyone's feelings.

Anyway, the next worst is home decor. I understand why people give it, I even do it myself sometimes. Sometimes I really do like what I'm given and I always can see why it was chosen for me. BUT that doesn't mean I have room or want to display it in my home.

wine. Not a wine drinker and we really don't entertain enough to be bothered keeping a bottle around.

Clothing, unless I had specified a particular item in advance and provided the correct size.

Anything sports related.

Any scented personal care items. I got away from scented lotions and perfumes when I worked with a person who got migraines from them, and now the aromas kind of make me nauseous.

Alcohol, since I don’t drink.

I like to read and watch DVDs, but unless I have mentioned something specific to you, don’t go there. I have duplicate books and DVDs because people didn’t pay enough attention to know I had it already.

Really, unless you are my sister who knows me really well, just give me a Disney gift card and I will be happy.

I will graciously accept anything, but hope you don’t get offended if I forward on to someone else or donate it!

I saw someone say a cat upthread. There are other things I wouldn’t like much, but a cat might be what I would like the least. I have a little bit of a phobia and go out of my way to avoid them.

any live animal, any liquor, any clothes, any scented items (I have too many I don't like).

Candles. I have birds. Scented candles can kill birds.

I accept them graciously and I'm saving them for when my kids move out. They can have them for their apartments.

Don't knock a car. I received one for Christmas one year... however, when you're married, you sort of know what you're getting. I could have had the car sooner, but we had fun with Daddy telling the kids that Santa was going to bring Mommy a car. My DH picked it up on Christmas Eve and we parked it in front of the house with a big red bow. I wrapped the keys. The excitement on the kids' faces was priceless. However, I agree with you... if I got no say in the car and received it as a gift, I'd be angry. My DH bought a BMW X4 once that we all shared as a spare car... our kids were using mine. I hated everything about that car. The visibility was awful and the seat position was uncomfortable. I complained so much that he got rid of it within 6 months. He can buy whatever he wants to drive, but when we are going to share, I should also get a say.
