During the FD promotion last year I booked for Oct (2016), a standard room in AKL. I wasn’t sure exactly what flights we’d end up with, so booked 8 nights – knowing we’d probably want more but thinking it was better to increase the booking later as the cost would go up and there’d therefore be no fee to make the change.

Now we’re all booked flight wise, I tried to extend the booking by 2 nights (adding a Wednesday and Thursday night) but there’s no availability. We could upgrade to a savannah view for the whole 10 nights (with the same FD and gift card deal) but the increase in cost is just way too much. At time of booking it was a close call with Wilderness Lodge – but that is not showing as available either, so transferring the booking to there is not an option.

Are these rooms truly sold out, or are they locked out to the UK travel site? If so, is there a chance they may be released to us again?

What would you do? I could transfer the booking to SSR for 10 nights. (Other deluxes are too expensive for us, and moderates we'd lose our DDP - and QSDP wouldn't suit us). Should I do that (in case that sells out) or hold on in the hope AKL rooms become available? We stayed at SSR before, and I'm not 'in love' with it, although the proximity to DS is a point in its favour.

It’s not possible to stay in Savannah view for 2 nights and standard for 8 nights under one booking, that would have to be a new separate booking so we’d have no park access (or FD) for the 2 nights if I did that – not really an option. Equally I’d be happy to stay offsite for 2 nights – but again the park tickets couldn’t be used until check in at AKL, so this doesn’t work for me.

Thanks for your views!

Are you planning on going to Universal? We are going to do this for 2 nights at beginning of our Disney holiday.

I'd either stay onsite at Universal - but then you have the cost of the tickets - or have the first couple of days in a nice offsite hotel - maybe do a bit of shopping, Orlando Eye etc.

Think about it this way:
DAY 1: fly all day, meal, sleep
DAY 2: can't do Disney yet, sleep
DAY 3: You can check into AKL today.

The first night is sleeping off the jet lag anyway, and you can "arrive " AKL early on the third day, so you really only have one day to "fill". Offsite, minimal plans would be my choice.

I wanted WL for next year and was told by WDTC that UK visitors cannot book for the time being, sorry.

The problem is they are sold out for the UK free dining deal. They will only come available if someone else cancels a free dining room.

Personally, I would book SSR for the whole 10 nights so there was no moving and you can get your free DDP & Park tickets.

Due to the work at WL that is basically blocked off.

Thanks for your replies.

We're going to be elsewhere in Florida before this, so really I'm looking to make the most of the Disney tickets. I think SSR is the only alternative to AKL I'd be remotely happy with, but really had my heart set on AKL

I guess I'm just surprised they're sold out for midweek, 2 weeks before UK half term. Ho hum, lesson learned!

We had the same issue a few weeks ago. We booked the BC for 14th Oct 2 weeks and waited for flights to come out.
When they did, I couldn't get a decent price for the 14th and ended up booking the 24th Oct 2 weeks.
Then I had a look at the availability at the BC and couldn't get the dates I needed. When I investigated it turned out the 2nd and 3rd Nov was full. I called disney and was all set to settle for the 9 nights that was available. The lovely CM could see that it was only 2 days unavailable so she kindly called through to someone. When she came back to me she quickly said that they can do the full 2 weeks for me at the exact same price and offer I already had. I jumped at this and said yes. So luckily it all worked out for me.
Have you spoken again to disney to see what they can do? I checked on the US website and told the CM that there was a room on the US site but understood that the availability is only for them and if there was anything she could do.
I hope it all works out for you and you get something booked. x
