If you were on a tight budget would you stay 2 nights and do one park or 4 nights and just enjoy the resort? We have been to disney plenty times before and I'm just taking the kids there cause this was one of the things on there list for the summer. One kid wants to go to a park and the other kid doesn't want to do a park cause they don't want to stand in the lines. I have a 9 yr old and a 7 yr old. We live in GA it's a 7 hour drive, so the drivers not big deal to me. 4 nights at the value resort is $600 and 2 nights and one park is $90 more. I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions you guys have!! Thank you so much

I would camp and spend a couple of days in the parks.:goodvibes

Between your 2 choices, I would take the one that had the park day. No way would I want to spend 4 days hanging out at the resort, and not doing anything at all besides that. I would do the shorter stay and the park tickets.

For us, I think it would be a form of torture to go and not visit a park.
I would opt for 2 days and visit a park with the park being MK.

As the PP said, do you have camping gear? Ft. Wilderness has wonderful activities and amenities. Something to consider.

If we weren't going to do any parks, we'd probably pick a different vacation destination than Orlando.

Hotels, pools, restaurants, and sights that my kids would enjoy can be found in a lot of other places.

I can't imagine going and not going to a park! But I also can't imagine driving 7 hours each way for just one day there.

I'd go with option three---lay it all out for the kids and tell them that if you wait until next summer instead of going this summer, you'll have more time to save some money and make it a more extended, enjoyable trip! Do some day trips closer to home this summer instead.

If I was not going to be going to the parks I would not stay at Disney. Head off to the ocean, or Tennessee to the great smoky mountains. You can get really cheap hotels and tons of free stuff to do. If u wanted to do Disney get the hopper pass and camp.

Yeah, this. Or I'd save money and do a longer Disney vacation next year.

Camp?

I would say camp as well.

You could look into an "off site on site" hotel. Bonnet creek, etc. Don't know if that's any cheaper then a value though

If you have one kiddo who wants to go to a Park - I can't imagine driving 7 hours then spending 4 days at a Disney Resort and not going to a Park.
If you MUST do Disney this summer..can you stay at an offsite property for longer (and less$$ than a Value during the summer rates) and still do the Parks? I bet you could stay 4 nights at someplace nearby for much less than $600.

Just a thought, first week of June we did a SeaWorld trip. We stayed 5 nights, had unlimited tickets to SW and Busch Gardens, free dining (all you care to eat and drink) 1 day for each park for $760. It was 2 adults and an 11yr. old. We stayed at Residence Inn (5min from SW) RI had a small kitchen and free breakfast. They also had the option to do Aquatica, instead of BG or you could just do SW. We really liked it and SW is mostly shows, so you aren't really standing in line much. SW is a beautiful park, DS got to feed stingrays, sealions and sharks (that could get expensive though $5 for ea) We enjoyed it.:goodvibes

I just looked at the SW site (don't know when you are going) but I did last week in July, 4 nights, 2 adults, 2 kids(they have a kids free promo) tickets to SW and Aquatica, at Laquinta Inn (which I think has a free breakfast) room had a fridge and microwave, all for $555.

Why go to Disney and not go to a park? If that was the case, save the money and go somewhere else.

  • I wouldn't drive 14 hours round trip just so that I could spend 2 nights anywhere. We take plenty of cross-state trips to see my family. The drive takes about 5 hours, one way. I need at least a day to recover from each leg of the trip! So for me, doing 2nights/1park would just not happen!
  • It would kill me to be so close to the parks and not visit them. So a 4-night Disney stay without parks wouldn't happen either!
  • Even staying longer offsite and then getting 2-day tickets wouldn't appeal to me. The price of a 2-day ticket seems wasteful to me. You're actually paying more for a 2-day base ticket (~$196/adult) than you are for 2 1-day tickets to Epcot, HS or AK (~$96/day x 2 = ~$192)! I would rather stay longer and spend less "per day" by having multi-day tickets.
  • So, I agree with the others who would choose "C. None of the above." because I would rather save for a more leisurely vacation than spend what I have on a vacation that is sure to disappoint the child who didn't get the trip they wanted.

I agree with the others. Go to the beach, or up to TN and do Dollywood. I just priced a 4 night hotel stay at Dollywood with a 3 day pass to the theme park and/or the water park for 1 adult and 2 kids for $500.

Or just save your money and do Disney right next year! :thumbsup2

Yeah the Disney resorts are overpriced if you are just going to stay there and hangout. If you are on a budget your dollar can go a lot further somewhere else...

I vote for either the trip to sea world for MUCH less money (as a pp suggested) or save, save, save for next summer! I started planning our trip for next summer as well. You can always do fun day trips or maybe an inexpensive local weekend getaway.

If I went there, I would go to the parks. Even for just one day. I think four days at a value resort would be boring.
