all my ADR's are for 6. 3 of them decided to go quick service instead. i could........call and try to change them but really dont want to open that can of worms.............or...............just tell them at the podium that the other three are not going to make it............or............wait till they call us to the table and then tell them the other three are not going to make it...........???........i am sure some of you have had a least a similar situation. how did you handle it????

If you're holding a table (well, you don't really hold a table, just an ADR) for 6 at a very popular restaurant I would call and tell them you might only have 3 and see what happens. If that goes well (they don't have to re-book), consider doing so for the others.

If it looks like they're having to shuffle your ADRs around, I would keep it at 6, try to be a few minutes early, and inform them at the desk that you only have 3.

Or, you could first book a 3, then release the 6. We had a bad experience when our party went from 18 to 12, but that was more of a "Group Dining" issue.

I would call and let them know that you might have only 3 instead of 6 people and see if they have an available reservation for you. If they do change it, if not let them know you'll talk to the other 3 and confirm they won't be there before you cancel and then just tell them at the podium.

It seems that the way Disney handles reservations is a bit odd. If you call for a reservation for 3 and all they have are 6 person tables they will often say they don't have anything for a party of 3 because all the 4 person tables are taken. They should give the 6 person table to the first person that calls with 6 or less people (perhaps a solo would not take up a whole table) but Disney doesn't do that, at least not from some of the stories I have heard.

Because of that I would confirm you can get a reservation for 3 before canceling the reservation for 6.

I'd keep some of the ADRs because I bet you will have those folks begging for a sit down meal when they get there and it is very hard to get last minute ADRs :) And if you know for sure they don't want to go to certain ones, call dining reservations and let them know you need a 3 top instead.

Tell them when you get to the podium. I don't think it will be a big deal. Do NOT wait until you are being taken to your table. Not only would that be very rude but they are likely to turn you around and make you wait for a table of the proper size.

Just asked a CM this question the other day...he told me to tell them when we checked in at the restaurant. If you are going from a larger to a smaller size, it's no big deal, but if you need more seats you need to rebook. :thumbsup2

I first would call Disney and try to change the reservations. No guarantees it will help, but it's definitely the best solution. If not, I say just go to the restaurants and telling the host at the podium you will only have three, not six. At worst, you'll have to wait a little longer for a table, but they will still honor your reservation.

Good luck!
