what would you do?

I admit I haven't read every post but I say, pay what you can on credit card and leave yourself enough to go on vacation. Of course, I'm looking at things from a slightly different perspective. Our friend went fishing the other night and hasn't returned home. He has a wife and 2 small children. Make as many family memories as you can, when you can. Life is too short. As long as you have a plan to clear up the rest of the debt in a reasonable amount of time go for the trip!

In the OP's scenario, paying off the debt would not mean waiting until 41. She would simply go on a date that is 6 months or so after her birthday - still in her 40'th year.

Yes, this.

I'll be 40 in December right before Christmas. My mom wants to take me to Italy for my 40th. Great! But we can't take off for 10 days at Christmas. So we're going in the spring or fall of next year. Still during my 40th year. :goodvibes

Also, remember if you book a package on a Disney Visa you get 6 months no interest so maybe you could pay off the 7,000 and then pay off the Visa w/in six months of your trip?

probably not a good suggestion for this OP....... folks who have accumulated cc debt have a difficult time with the control it takes to make a deal like this work- not an insult, but when learning to pay off debt, a person has to re-learn how they think about debt in the first place. I have a friend who is wise enough to know herself,so she NEVER takes advantage of offers like that one. She KNOWS that in the end, she'll take on extra debt that she'll have problems paying. "6 months free' is not a good plan for one who is already wondering whether paying pff large cc debt is a good idea or not.
Op, sounds like you have a good plan,so start planning for your future date when your bills are paid off!

I say go on the trip - the days are long, life is short, and all we take with us is our memories. You could be dead by next spring. Good luck.

Good luck, you may be dead by spring? WTH?:rotfl2: let's hope your luck holds,OP and you're still alive at 40.5 years old........ yea- things can and do happen, but really?:rotfl:
Odds are you'll be happily enjoying your spring trip......have fun!

Um, really. The OP has to make her own decisions but as someone who has both had cancer and lost someone to a murder in the last six months, I find it rather revolting that you think that's so funny.

Odds and unlikelihood aren't really a consolation when it happens to you.

It's really not that hilarious. I totally used to be one of the 'debt police.' Within the last 6 months I was diagnosed with cancer and my stepfather was killed in a murder-suicide.

Now, thanks to God, health insurance, and Dave Ramsey, we are debt free....but even if we weren't I think we'd be a little more likely to live for today.

Although I still don't think paying off the debt and putting off the trip have to be mutually exclusive- there's time between now and then.

I have the same kind of view. I would put money towards both. My Best friend was murdered in Feb. When something like that happens it totally devastates you, but also makes you see a little differently.

You do have to live while you are here. My husband is set on taking a trip this year because he would rather have vacation & memories than have 'things'. Not that that is for everyone, but thats what we are planning. :thumbsup2
