In a previous post i asked if it was possible to upgrade from a Miles + Money ticket, and the general concensus what it would cost the difference in ticket cost an extra 5500 miles plus £50 admin charge.

So i phoned Virgin and they quoted £167 to upgrade both ways. excellent i thought. But we had a problem, they needed to confirm payment with my wife as the tickets were bought seperatley.

So.... i wait until DW gets home, we phone up and the cost to upgrade has gone £50 (the admin fee), and as much as i trried to say that i was told it would be £50 less they wouldn't budge. so its gonna cost £217 to upgrade each.
I so wish i would have taken the guys name i spoke to earlier!!

Is this still a good price? the total cost for a return ticket in PE will be £600 give or take a penny or two.

Or is it worth trying Virgin again!!

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Bl***y Virgin Atlantic

£600 return each, for PE, is an excellent price. Personally, I'd snap that up right away.

To be honest Giggler, whether you had the name of the person you spoke to or not it wouldn't make a difference to Virgin! I had dates and times and names of people I'd had quotes from and they said that they wouldn't honour them as they weren't actual bookings:confused: (despite being misquoted by almost £700!) -

You just need to decide whether the last price you are given is acceptable to you and if it is then book it straight away (before they change it again!!:lmao: ) - and then try and forget about the original better quotes (easier said than done - as you can tell I'm still sore about it two months down the line!!!) :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Completely agreed :thumbsup2

I doubt that there is any point with being angry at Virgin - if anything the "fault" was your for not upgrading sooner (I don't mean that in a nasty way at all). Basically airline ticket pricing is VERY dynamic - as more people book, the prices tend to go up (airlines sell cheaper fares earlier on - within the same class - and as they are bought up, the prices for the same seats go up). This is particularly obvious/clear if you ever book with one of the budget airlines (like easyjet or ryanair): if you have a party of 5 travelling and you book 3 of them at 6pm and go back to book the other 2 at 9pm, you could well find that the two booking later pay £50/£75 per ticket more :sad1:

So, in your case, it probably isn't Virgin being cr*p, it is probably just that someone else bought a PE seat (or upgraded into PE) for one or both of your dates (between the time got your first quote and the time you phoned back in the evening), pushing the cost of your upgrade up :sad2:

So airline tickets (and hotel rates) are like that - if you don't purchase when you first get quoted, the prices could go up by the time you go to pay for it :(. A bit like buying clothes - if you see something you like and say "I wont by that now, I will come back on Saturday and get it", you can bet that they will be sold out of it in your size by Saturday

Of course, airline tickets can work the other way round: you will see people buy airline tickets to later complain that the same trip was put on sale and is now a lot cheaper....

ANyway, £600 for PE - very good price :thumbsup2
