I was overly excited to purchase the Dooney Satchel with the cruise ship names on it on my October 2012 Fantasy Cruise. I carried the bag everyday until I discovered a rip in the stitching along the back zippered pocket in February 2013. I did not abuse the bag it is 4 months old. I sent the bag to Dooney and this is their response : We are offering a credit if $117.50,to apply toward the full retail price of one replacement item valued at $235.00 or greater. There will also be a 7.50 shipping charge and sales tax. Are you kidding me? I have 30 days to send them payment or they will ship my ripped bag back to me. So after paying $245.00 dollars for the bag they want me to pay an additional 117.50 to replace what appears to me to be a manufacture defect. So what would you do ???
Also I am booked on the WBPC in May should I just take the ripped bag with me and see If they will exchange it ??

I'm shocked. Wow. I had one that came apart (not a Disney) at the seam and they replaced it for free.

Do you think it's because it's a Disney or just a new policy?

I am a big time Dooney Girl Disney and non Disney and I have never had a problem with any of my bags. This leaves me speechless I Expect more from them then this. I just got the letter today so I will call the on Monday

I'd call them and escalate it. Ask to speak to a manager. I can't imagine a $245 bag having the seam separate after a few months.

I have owned several Dooneys since I was 15, never ever had I had an issue with a tear or seam or anything. And I'm rough on bags. My daughter even uses a very old one for playing and hasn't torn it yet!!! I would definitely call and raise a HUGE stink about it. That is NOT standard dooney and Bourne quality!

I agree call them.........

And then call Disney if nothing else works

I bought a Disney bag and that the stitching and color are coming apart. I showed them on board and there response was call or send it back to Dooney as we can't do anything about it.

Just curious is the bag made in Mexico or China ?

They are assembled in Mexico.

I too had a problem with a WDW Sketch bag once. Busted zipper within one month of use. I sent it in and they fixed it. I specifically asked them to fix it and not just replace it because I liked my pattern placement and they did. I even got reimbursed for shipping the purse to them!

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

I brought my damaged Dooney and original receipt on board with me, hoping to exchange. The DCL retail manager sent a card to my stateroom with the Dooney address to deal with them on the purse. I think th eDCL Dooneys are made of a lower quality.
:guilty:

DCL now has a 'purchase protection policy'. It's free you just go to Customer Service and fill out the paper work.

I bought a DB on board - was checking it in the cabin and sure enough the zipper broke - took it down to the ship store and they replaced it. I filled out the paper work that night.

When I purchased my bag at Downtown Disney it had a card that I completed and mailed to the company in case of something like this. It stated that they would place the bag in case of this happening.

I had a problem a few years ago with the D&B cruise bag I purchased on the Dream. I called D&B and got nowhere with them. So, I called Disney mail order. They emailed me some information and I returned the bag to them, with the original receipt and did not pay for shipping and handling. I didn't get another bag, but at least I got all of my money back.

Did you register the bag using the yellow card that should have been in the bag when you purchased it?

If you did, the bag has a one year warranty against defects. They require that you pay for shipping to send the bag to them, and they reimburse you for the charges. They then check out the bag and give you the options for repair or refund.

If you registered the bag and are still having issues, then I would call back and request to speak with a manager. For the amount of money that we pay for these bags, I expect them to last for a long time.

The bag is registered that is why I am shocked and:mad: at their response. I have quite a few Dooney bags and I am so close to being a ex customer .
