My husband and I have finally figured out our budget (for the most part). But I can't decide if we should stay 7 days at a moderate resort or 5 days at a deluxe? What would you do?

Jennifer:confused:

Are you looking for just a place to sleep? Do you spend most of your time in the parks or do you like to relax at your resort part of the time?

DH & I spend the mornings in the parks, relax at the resort in the afternoon. Sometimes we go back to the parks in the evening, sometimes we hang around Boardwalk. For us a deluxe works best.

Personally I would stay more nights - means more days in the parks :)! Do you have an annual pass?

The resort stay is important to me. If I went all the time maybe I would think different. My trips to WDW are so spread apart! The last time I was there was 8 years ago and we stayed at the Beach Club. It was REALLY nice. It felt wonderful staying there! I bet any of the deluxes are like that. But then just being in Disney must feel that way. That was the first time I stayed on site and did it deluxe so I just have to do it again. There are people that really don't think that it is important on where they sleep as long as it is clean and has a pool. It is so much a personal and financial choice. I made the choice of less time at a deluxe.

So my guess is we will be spending more time at the hotel because we have naps and and earlier bedtime. We don't have and AP since this is the first time in 5 years that we have gone. And we probably won't go again for another 5 years. Would it make sense to buy and AP for just 1 trip?

I would def. stay less nights at a nicer place. When you look back at the memories, you always think of the hotel you stayed at. It add to the magic to stay at a really nice hotel. We stayed twice at GF and this time we are trying the YC. Just the convenience of the locations is reason enough for me to stay there.

It's really a matter of preference. It depends on which is more important to you. For me, the hotel is one of the most important things about my vacations.

We would always choose to stay 2 weeks at an All Star than 1 week at a Delux and that's what we'll be doing in a little over a week from now. We spend very little time at the resorts, even when we stayed at the AKL, we just couldn't justify the cost. Single Digits!

Hello :-)

Whether it makes sense to purchase an Annual Pass for one visit depends on the dates of your trip.

I booked the Caribbean Beach Resort for $144 per night for my dates in early July. Then when the AP rates came out this week, I was able to get the price reduced to $74 per night.

The Caribbean Beach Resort was recently refurbished, and I've heard great things about the size and decor of the rooms. I've always stayed in deluxe resorts before, but I am really excited about this trip to CBR. The landscaping looks lush and tropical. I've read so many good posts about this resort on this board :-)

Also, only one person in your party needs an AP to qualify for the reduced rates at your resort. If you were each going to purchase a 5 (or more) Day Park Hopper Pass anyway, the Annual Pass is not that much more expensive and may make sense, if you can get the excellent discounts currently being offered.

If it were me, I would opt for MORE DAYS at a Disney moderate resort over fewer days at the deluxe. Days at Disney seem to fly bye! Seven days is probably the shortest length for a visit, if you want to see at least the highlights at each of the Disney theme parks (at less than a break-your-neck speed).

Whichever choice you decide will be magical. Best wishes for the best vacation yet!

You can book the Swan/Dolphin for $139.00 a night right now. We got Dolphin for $129.00 a night & upgraded to club level for $20.00 a night more. That includes a huge breakfast & evening snacks.

I would want to spend as much time at Disney as possible and the moderates are very nice. I especially like CBR and CSR. I refuse to pay the price of the super deluxe such as YC, GF but have stayed at the lower level deluxes like WL and AKL. Depending on the discount codes that are being offered when you go, you may want to see what the prices are for a standard room at WL or AKL and see if that enables you to still stay 7 days. Both of these resorts are super. Enjoy your trip whatever your choice.

I would choose to stay longer. For me the room is just a place to shower and sleep.

I spend all of my time in the parks.

I would stay longer. You may be a bit rushed if only staying for 5 days.

During our December, 2002 trip we stayed in all three types of hotel--value (AS Music), moderate (PO Riverside, both sections!) and deluxe (Dolphin). We got a free upgrade from PO Riverside to the Dolphin through DCL. We spent about equal time between the resorts and the parks.

My honest opinion, at least for us, is that it would not be worth the extra expense for the deluxe. I'd much rather have the extra time at WDW. We don't particularly enjoy all the fancy amenities and pampering (we're really campers at heart, just getting too old to enjoy it the way we used to). PO Riverside is my favorite of all the resorts, and we've toured all of them except CBR, which was closed when we were there. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at any of the All Stars either, but this trip we'll be a party of five, so it's back to Riverside once more!

I'd opt for the moderate so that I could stretch my vacation and then spend the last night at a deluxe. We have been doing that for a couple of years. We usually spend most of our time at the parks so we can't justify the price of the deluxe - our camper at FW gives us a place to crash after a long day and the lower rate lets us stay for two weeks. We wouldn't have enough time to use the amenities that the deluxe resorts offer anyways. That said, who can beat staying Deluxe! Our last day has now become a resort day - we book a deluxe for one night and use the pool and relax. Have fun whatever you decide!

I know it wasn't one of the choices... but personallly I would stay the week at the deluxe and make up the difference in price by cutting down on souveniers or expensive meals while there and maybe cutting a few corners or working harder to save prior to leaving...

That's what I would do too. For instance, we're staying at OKW in 2 br villa. Even with a discount, it's pretty expensive so we'll eat a few breakfasts in, bring our own soft drinks...maybe, just maybe fix a lunch or two in the villa.

Other than that, I'd shorten the length of the trip to stay in a deluxe. The only thing worse than a short vacation in a resort I love, is a long one in a resort I'm not satisfied with!

Jennifer -

It didn't say when you are going. Your other option is to rent from a DVC member and stay at a Deluxe resort (this includes Boardwalk, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge and Old Key West). This is approx. $110-$140 per night. Compare that to your rates and decide.

Good Luck
Sandy

And I should have told you when I'm going. We're going the third week in November. I'm leaning towards staying longer at the POR. I have been looking at pictures of the WL and AK (the only deluxes we could afford even at a discount) and I just really like the way that the POR looks as oppossed to them. I promise to let you all know if I ever make a decision. :)

Jennifer:)

If you do not plan to go for another 5 years :earseek:, I would go for the moderate and stay as long as you can. If you were going back sooner, I would say Deluxe is the way to go

Thanks
Jason
