I have a friend of mine turning 40. Another friend of mine and I were planning to have a party for her. Well after some time we decided that a nice formal dinner at a very nice restaraunt would be the better way to go. You see, the friend with a b-day coming basically doesn't have any friends and the ones she did have she has made enemys with over the summer. Well I spoke with her husband and he tells me "Great idea. We have had a hectic summer and could use some quiet time." Well when I mention dinner plans to my friend I could just tell she was annoyed. She wanted that party or nothing. I told her to get back to me and let me know what she wanted to do. Dinner out or nice dinner at my home. About two days later I get a phone call from my other friend telling me that friend #1's husband called her to tell her that his wife wanted a party and that he was planning on having one at his mom house. Whatever!!!! She hasn't spoken to her MIL since June but lets have a party at her house. Anyway, her own mom who lives over 3 hours away came over to have dinner for her DD birthday only to find out her DD was being a BIG baby and the dinner was canceled.(We didn't find out in time to let her know) Now her mom is expected to make the trip again, only this time on a week night to have some cake and ice Cream. Sorry to go on so long but I was curious to find out what you would do. I really don't feel like even going now. My other friend says I should just let it go but she is ALWAYS like this and I am tired of rewarding her bad behavior. Your thoughts. Would you go and suck it up, or would you do what you feel the right thing to do and stay home. I truly feel that if my dinner party wasn't good enough for her than she can have her cake and ice cream at her MIL's house without me.

Don't go. You'll have a lousy time if you do. Stay home and eat cake and ice cream. If she wonders where you were, just play dumb "oh, was that last night?" and change the subject. Sounds likes she doesn't care about her friends and sounds like many of her friends have figured it out!!

Good luck!
