What would you do if your kids couldn't nap because of noise??

I was just reading this thread on the resorts board
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=899529

and the OP mentioned tree trimming (8 am to 4 pm daily for ~a week) disturbing their rest. There were other issues as well, but that one bothered me.

A lot of posters were not supportive of this complaint, saying that landscaping has to be done sometime, but I think it's legit! I can't imagine a trip where my kids (2/4) couldn't take a rest during the day. The op was travelling with a 2 year old, and some folks with medical problems.

So what would you have done? :)

maybe go for a walk in the stroller, or turn on the alrm clock/radio to static - white noise is pretty good t masking sounds.
And - yes I would have been perturbed also, though I do understand it needs to be done.(landscaping that is)

If we had that problem and DS couldn't nap, I'd ask for a room change to a quieter area of the resort. It sounds like the person who posted about the landscaping noise had a number of (legitimate) needs from their room; we don't have as many children or adults with health issues, so room location and a room change probably wouldn't be as big of a deal.

White noise is always good too - run the fan in the room on high, and use the radio on static if you need more. The bathroom fan noise may help too.

We bring our laptop and/or portable DVD player to play our regular bedtime music. That usually helps drown out all those strange noises.

I too would probably be a little upset. Yes, they have to do their landscaping, but my kid needs sleep too.

I'd just consider it "one of those things." If the landscaping was done earlier in the morning or later in the evening, different people would have their sleep interrupted. But it's got to be done sometime.

Although every child is different, I've found that my kids are so exhausted at WDW that they'll sleep anywhere! We always go back to the resort for a nap. I don't recall if we've encountered noise at the resorts, but even if we did I don't think it would make a difference to my kids. Disney makes them extra tired! :)

My kids don't do well falling asleep with the tv or music. They are mostly easy going, but DD is a light sleeper with noises that are different from the normal house stuff.

I will have to pick up a white noise machine. I think that would be a good thing to have for any trip! I always bring ear plugs for myself but they aren't great for the kids.

A stroller nap would not work for my 4 year old, and when he was 2 1/2 he wouldn't sleep much in there either.

One day, no biggie. A week? That's a little much.

I would much rather noise during the day than in the middle night. You have to expect noise during the day. That is why in our house, there was never quiet during the day (older siblings playing, tv, phone ringing, vaccum going, dogs barking, lawns being mowed, etc), which means we've never had a problem with noise during napping. However, when it has been a problem at night (4th of July fireworks that go off until 2 am, for example), we just turn on some instrumental music. It tends to drown out the upsetting noises and helps them sleep with famaliar noises.
