What would you do? Haven't heard from renter.

I would call her, look her phone number up on Reverse Phone Number on the intenet if you don't have it. My Broadband goes down for no reason at all. she may have had a family accident etc.

I am fairly new at the renting business also but it helps to have phone numbers of renters to actually touch base with them. I have had five rentals in the last few months and had the people call me so we could discuss what they actually needed and wanted so everyone was on the same page. I feel it also gives the renter a small sense of security having my phone number and being able to correspond with me about the reservation without waiting for e-mails and vice versa. I only had one fall through and I am pretty confident it was for an actual family sickness and nothing like shopping around. I gave them the benefit and held onto it until I was able to actually speak with them and confirm they needed to cancel. They were not able to check there e-mail as the sickness kept them away from home.

I sure would like to know what happened to this case.

I sent a polite email that basically explained that if we didn't hear something by such and such a date, the ressie would have to be cancelled, and then we got a "sorry, I forgot" email with a promise of a tracking number soon. The tracking # didn't materialize on the promised date, so dh made a phone call. He was very nice, but firm, and she promised it by the next Friday. Never did find out exactly what the problem was (I'm thinking perhaps it was more an unforseen financial problem than a true forgetting problem maybe?). Anyway, I sent a reminder email on Thursday, and on Friday afternoon a tracking # came by email, then on the following Monday the money order arrived. So all's well that ends well in this case; it was just a bit of a hassle and somewhat worrisome & uncomfortable. I was SO glad not to be forced into any unpleasantness, and I'm grateful it all worked out just in the nick of time for us to take our little trip and thoroughly enjoy it. I think spelling out the consequences of late/missed payments could alleviate this in the future (hopefully), if we ever do this again.

I'd like to say thanks again for all of the helpful ideas and input from you guys.

Melinda - Sounds like you had to endure a lot of unnecessary hassle with this renter. I'm glad you got your money, though. That's a relief!

So glad it worked out in the end, but I agree those things should be spelled out next time so you wont have to go through that hassle. I think it makes me know why I don't intend to ever rent out points.

So glad that everything worked out! :thumbsup2

Second that -
I currently have a reservation that I will put up for rent because of my making a reservation after someone contacted me saying they would like to rent from me again for a given week and listing their choices in order. I was able to get BCV (2nd choice) because it was before the 7 mo window and we have points there. I sent a PM and checked that they had read it - no reply. finally after a couple of weeks I sent another one stating that I assumed they had found a reservation for the 1st choice (WLV) from someone else and did not want thihs ressie. They replied that they had been out of the country and just gotten back and that due to job changes they might not be able to make the trip. I should not have made the reservation without checking with them that the 2nd choice would be okay but they were such super renters last year that I went ahead. No money had changed hands and I have plenty of time to "re-rent" so it wasn't a disaster but that is why I also don't think I would be interested in trying to rent to someone close to the trip time. Now I just have to decide whether to try to rent the reservation or save those points for another trip mayself. Last year I rented most of my points to subsidize a trip to DL for the 50th party and for a cruise at Christmas. I am in borrowing mode for the other two trips we have listed so it is a subject I need to think about a little longer- rent the ressie and use the money for lengthening the Dec by staying somewhere else Friday and Saturday?(it's not enough points for the size rooms we need for the weekend) or put the points back and hope for low airfare in the spring.(Banking deadline is October)
To anyone who rents or thinks of renting from either side of the transaction - be sure you understand what you are agreeing to. Hopefully this is the last year I will be renting out points for awhile and that I will just we using them for my family and myself.
Again glad this worked out for you - it is so nice to have the renting option for those times when maybe you need the money to pay the maintenance fees or like me want to take a trip that isn't Disney related (not that that will happen again soon but the cruise-not Disney- was wonderful).

I know there are some great renting points experiences out there, but issues like these make me feel less guilty about being a 'piggy' and using all our points. ;)

Now if my DH ever realized that we could rent them and not 'have' to make all those trips, well..... :rolleyes1

I'm glad it worked out too. I've never rented and I don't really intend to unless I'm in danger of losing points. This kind of thing keeps people from renting.
