What would you do? Advice needed

Oh, I wouldn't say he was PICKY --

I'd say he was

This is truly one of the rudest tackiest things that I have heard of! It is never in good taste to request money for a gift and requesting it "respectfully" doesn't change that!!!

If I were you, I would send the gift that you purchased - the poor kid could probably use an awesome gift like that!

Wow! I'm amazed at what nerve some people have! I couldn't imagine asking for something like that! Matter of fact, when people who are invited to my DS's b-day party call & ask me what they should get him, I always just say "it doesn't matter, what matters is that you are there to celebrate with us." Actually, I MEAN ALL THAT TOO!

Anyway, I would definitely send the cool bike & you can always enclose a note saying "since everyone will probably give money, I thought it would be fun for my nephew to have at least one gift to open & play with!" Who cares if it offends your BIL/SIL! They obviously didn't care what was "proper" or not when requesting cash for furniture!

If it were me - I'd package up the emergency hammer thing and ship it up!!;)

You poor thing - weird people all around you.:(

Send the gift you already had and don't give the situation a second thought!

That's not a party, it's a fund-raiser.

You are completely right to give your original gift. How classless of them to make such a request!

Pam, you crack me up! Unfortunately, they already have an emergency auto hammer since MIL sent them one as well!

FOJMO, as far as BIL being lazy, I'd have to agree with you. My 8 mo. pregnant SIL is still working 2 jobs while he plays fantasy baseball on the computer all day. The real kicker is that they put Joey in daycare every day just in case he gets an interview, so he's not even taking care of their child! He is also a teacher, but he is only willing to work in ONE school, the one where his wife works. He's interviewed at that school twice and has been turned down both times. I think they are trying to tell his something.

Mishetta, I like the way you worded that. I thnk I will do just that. :)

Wow!!!! Just when you think you've seen it all, someone comes up with a new one. I am quite sure that the 2 year old said "Mommy and daddy, instead of lots of presents for my birthday, please have all the people send money so that my friends and relatives canpay for the stuff that you are supposed to be buying me."

Send the tricycle.

Oh good grief! How tacky! I agree with the others, I would send the tricycle. Perhaps you could include $1 with the tricycle to make your point about the money thing being tacky, LOL! :teeth:

I also would go ahead and send the gift maybe with a note attached that this was already purchased and in the process of being sent before you received the email and that time does not allow you to return it (a little white lie probably).
