What would you advise your teenager to wear to a job interview?

I agree. I am surprised to see so many think casual is okay, it is a job interview. My company always has someone coming in for an interview and i'm amazed by what some people wear. I would never go to an interview in anything less than a suit.

I would agree with you if we were talking a company internship, a bank, anything like that. However my husband works at Target and has worked at multiple stores, honestly knowing the managers there wearing a suit most would assume you think your too good for this job. You have to dress to the job your applying for. In the case of target where many of the employees are in sneakers, kackis (can't spell that) that may be ripped or stained, and red t shirts dressing slightly up means having nice shoes, decent pants, and a nice polo.

In my previous job, I had to interview a lot of teenagers (boys & girls) for volunteer opportunities. I would say a polo and plain khakis (pressed and neat) with closed-toe shoes. Even if it's a sneaker, I'd rather see that than flip-flops and toes during an interview. In my experience, the guys always did a better job of dressing for the interview than the girls.

I agree with the previous poster about how any walmart or target has clothes easily for guys but also I think in general dress codes are easier for guys because there are just standard levels.

For example where I work we dress pretty casually most of the time for an office but on some days we have these lunches with a customer for the leadership program team (1-3 year employees in a speacial program) the dress code is generally listed as either "Button down shirt, no tie required" or "Shirt and tie". Notice both of those descriptions even cater to the men? What is the difference for a woman between those two? I'm not sure there really even is one. I generally do a button down shirt or other blouse and black or grey dress pants. Close toed black dress shoes (that actually look alot like guy dress shoes).

Another example. Graduation dinner from the program for me. I am trying to figure out what to wear (I'm also the only girl graduating so I can't even check with the others in the program) my husband is my guest to the dinner. His dress was easy, button down shirt, black tie, black pants and dress shoes. I ended up doing a pant suit I had to wear to customer meetings because I had to be in it all day before at work (lived to far away in the wrong direction to stop home and change before dinner) and didn't really want to buy something new that I probably wouldn't wear again. (I don't really have nice dresses).

Not sure what is appropriate now. I know I dressed up back in the day but I may have overdone it. Wore a dress to a job interview at Wendy's. My 17 year old son has an interview for a job at Target. Any suggestions? Would cargo pants and a polo shirt be good?

I advised by DD to wear dress pants and a nice top to both drop off her application as well as for the interview. It was for Chick fil A and she got the job.

Fo you son, khakis and a button down shirt no tie. And clean closed toed shoes.

Be smart and wear a suit, but be careful not to overdress - you do not want to out-dress your prospective employer!

Personally I would wear a full suit minus the tie. Nice shoes, nice shirt and jacket, possibly a smart overcoat. No gloves. Perhaps a scarf if weather demands?

If your interview is at Target as is the case here your 100% outdressing the employer. Who will be in a red shirt (managers generally have a polo or button down on) and khaki pants.
