Way "back in the day" about all there was to choose from was pastels.. You either went with the rainbow or had each attendant in the same pastel - with the MOH in one pastel not used for the others..
I'll never forget one day when I was out driving around - hitting garage sales.. Had to be at least 20 years ago.. There was a bride with her attendants standing on a front lawn having professional photos taken.. Of course the bride was in white.. All of the attendants were in black - each holding a single red rose - and it looked gorgeous!!
DD had plum for MOH and dark teal for the other attendants.. Very pretty together..

chose a modified version of a British morning suit (charcoal gray jacket, striped trousers, lighter gray vest and regular tie). I debated over pastels, brights and finally said "Screw it - the girls & I are all wearing white!" Told my florist cousin to go nuts with mixed summer flowers for the girls (my bouquet was predominantly coral roses, stephanotis, white lillies and trailing asparagus fern).
