What were your holiday hits and flops?

Hit: Japanese Soft Drinks called Ramune that has the marble in them.

I bought 24 (two 12-packs) of Ramune for my DS15. His siblings keep drinking them too so there are only a few left. It's a novelty thing so not sure I would buy more as they are expensive for a soft drink, but they enjoyed trying the different flavors. I did google and see World Market carries them and they are currently building a World Market in a nearby shopping center so I might pick up a few when I go shopping there, but wouldn't order online again.

Misses: None as I didn't buy filler gifts.

Flop: Fingerling for DD10. Even though she’s older I thought she’d like it. She didn’t.

Hit: hand me down inline skates that we found were never used by DD15. We gave them to DD10 the day after Christmas. She says it’s her favorite gift.

Another very confusing flop: My MIL buying DH and I a pot and pan set...for the second Christmas in a row. We now have three pot and pan sets and a VERY tiny kitchen, so one of them is going to have to go. It's not that I'm ungrateful as I know it's a pricey gift, but we have never asked for a pot and pan set other than when we got married in 2015, so I'm not sure why we keep receiving them.

If you have room in storage I would suggest you hold on to the pots and pans...every kitchen gift we received as a wedding gift seemed to wear out/break at the same time. Granted it was after we had been married 11 years.

I’m still using the pots I bought from Marshall fields in 1998. They were not expensive so I’m shocked they are still going strong.

Hit: Nintendo Switch

Flop: Roald Dahl book set - apparently Mom & Dad are the only ones who think DS9 needs to be reading books :sad2:
My DD8 is also a reluctant reader. I finally got her to read the Judy Blume ‘Fudge’ series (she has one left) but only by starting to read them to her first. Then she’d pick up where we left off for her nightly assigned reading for school. She’s much more into graphic novels than regular books, which I’ve sort of given in on. At least she is willingly reading something. She got the first two Dog Man books on Christmas Eve & blew through them both already. She also got the first two Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which she says she’s going to read next, and the first Lumberjanes novel (she’s read the comics & loves them so hopefully she’ll give the novel a try). Maybe take your DS to the book store and let him exchange the Ronald Dahl set for something that interests him more. My DD hardly ever agrees to read books that I suggest to her, she has to choose herself.

Hits:
Papa (Age 77)- loved the 360 VR camera that slips right on his iPhone
DD15- LL Bean Boots and Hunter Boots (Year of Boots....she seemed to like most of her clothes from AE, only rejected one dress (so I consider that a win)
DD12- MacBook Pro--but was most excited about its purple case and keyboard cover and red bubble stickers to decorate the front, also liked subscription to YouTube.red, she also liked the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid (which is sort of below her reading interests now, but she was sucked right into it)

Miss:
Basketball game for rec room....maybe they'll like it more once it's all set up, but they didn't seem too excited about it
LAX net...but it's also not useful until spring, so maybe more exciting when it's not -5 windchill outside

Hits:

Ds7 power wheels wild thing..he has run the battery down on it several times, art desk, bean bag chair from grandma

Ds14 loved his new gaming computer and monitor, has been on it nonstop since christmas day.

Dh didn't get much but really liked a Duck Tales/Dr. Who mashup t-shirt from ript apparel.

No flops that I can think of, the fingerling monkey hasn' gotten much attention but other than that everything has been tried and liked.

Hits: Nintendo Switch for DS22, iPad for DH, MacBook for DS19 to take back to college, new luggage and an Instant Pot for me.

Flops: None really, expect the Invicta Disney watch DH got me (which I had picked out online). It ended up being a lot bigger and heavier than I thought it would be. It was a really beautiful watch, but I decided it wouldn't be practical to wear at my school job where I'm constantly working with my hands. I think it would just get in the way. We shipped it back and I picked out another one, paying attention to the measurements this time!

If you got GOOD pots and pans they should last you. DH & got doubles of the same set(we wanted 2) 15 year later they are still going strong. I bought him a cheap set when we were dating and when we moved into our house after the wedding gave the cheap set to one of the former roomate's.

I got both my girls fingerlings too. They haven't really played with them. Seems to be a theme on this thread.

Hits: Pretty much everything - biggest hits were the Switch for the girls, the fidget spinners and dart guns (nothing like shooting a ceiling and watching the dart drop) for the boys, and the HMart stockings for all (even though a product or two was a "miss" which got passed to someone else who usually loved it more)...even the relatives' gifts were all a big success, which was a surprise, b/c a few relatives go their own unique ways...and the one that almost always fails that sent shower bombs seems to have finally read my family emails all year (the girls are so excited when they burn through their bath bombs, they will have the slower, but still cool, shower bombs to enjoy!)

Hits: Wicked tickets from our son for Ft Lauderdale in Feb. Bulgari Aqua from us to him. New beach chairs for Bill (and me) from me.
Miss: New beach cart that doesn't work all that well in the sand.

Hits: kittens-twin sisters-for the youngest two kids. We haven’t had kittens in the house in over 20 years and we are all a little obsessed. Ordered DH a custom small whiskey barrel, to age cocktails in-hasn’t arrived yet but hope it’s a hit. I got a title nine gift card-so excited to take myself shopping. Extended family loved thre frame family pics we gave them-haven’t had formal pics done since before the youngest two were born :sad1:

Misses: Santa brought our 8 year old a hatchimal which he’s wanted since before last Xmas-he liked it for about twenty minutes but hasn’t touched it since. Can’t compete with the kittens.

If you have a nearby Asian food store they sell them there. Probably cheaper, too. They also carry all the candy they sell in the Japan pavilion store at Disney but cheaper.

Big hit for DD8 was Snap Circuits. She asked Santa for them after playing with them at a friend’s house and has spent a lot of time yesterday & this morning working on the projects. She also loved all the books she got, Wonder Woman on DVD, and the Sorry game.

DD4’s biggest hit was probably her PJ Mask toys (although she did ask at first why these don’t light up & talk like the one she has at home - because Mommy didn’t want to pay for all the deluxe cars & got the regular ones from Santa!) She also got some magnetic building toys from my sister called Mag Fun that she’s really liked so far.

I don’t think we had any flops. We’re still at my mom’s house so there are some things we haven’t let them play with yet (science kits, LEGO) but my kids are still little enough that they like pretty much anything they get.

Still using my FarberWare pots and pans that i received as an engagement gift in 1975.

Yay for the kittens - congrats!
