What weird things do your pets do?

I have a dog that does something....because ha can

We have a 4 year old sheltie, Scarlett, and she has a few weirdo things she does. We cannot say the work "walk" at all around her (yes, we spell it out) because she go nuts and runs to the front door, barks obnoxiously and twirls in circles. If you ignore her long enough she sits down in a huff and guards the door for a while.

If she is laying on the floor somewhere and someone walks by her, she rolls over, slowly, onto her back, all 4's spread wide and wants her belly rubbed. I often see her sleeping this way on her bed in our bedroom.

Thankfully, she has never been a chewer, but for some reason, she loves fleece socks....the kind that you can wear as slippers. Even if you shove them into a pair of slippers, she will find them and chew them up. My mom has learned this the hard way when visiting.

My dogs do a lot of weird things, but the one off the top of my head right now is something the girl in my avatar does several times a day. I can't describe it very well, but she will stretch out her front paws and lean back with her butt high in the air (like a downward facing dog!) and then a few seconds later reverses position to where her head is high in the air and her back legs are stretched out way behind her. Then she'll plop down on the ground really hard and sigh in contentment.

I've obviously seen dogs stretch before, but I've never had one that did it so precisely in these positions on a regular basis like her.

Our dog Dash does the same thing, but only once a day as soon as he gets up and comes out of his crate each morning. We call it sun dog rising  and then he lays flat on his belly with his legs straight out in front of him and pulls himself along, dragging his back legs, we call this his paddle. Next he lays on his side and curls up and scrunches around on his side, first one side and then the other, we call this the boof. Every morning, the same routine, and not again for the rest of the day.

He is the only dog I have ever met that does not respond in any way to the kissy sound made to normally call a dog. He stares at you like you are insane, but he won't take one step towards you. I really believe he is a cat in a dog body.

He will go to the back door and whine to go outside, but when you get up to take him out he runs and grabs his KONG and drops it at your feet to put a treat in it. Smart dog!

He also drops his KONGs from the top of the stairs so they bounce all the way down and roll on the floor, just to get our attention. If we ignore him, he will go down and get it and then drop it from the top again, and again. We call them his grenades. He has about 4 different shapes and sizes of them and pretty much daily we find one in one of our shoes. I've never seen him put them there, so I don't know if he drops them in the shoe or if it bounces and lands there, but it cracks me up that he does it.

My DD used to ride the bus and every day at 4pm, he went to the front door to go out and meet her. It took him probably a year to break that habit when she didn't ride the bus anymore.

He loves broccoli and carrots, he will come from anywhere in the house when he hears me take either from the fridge. I have tried sneaking it as quietly as I can, it doesn't matter, he will hear it!

Every night he goes to the kitchen between 8 and 9pm, and if no one has made popcorn he whines until someone does. I finally have started keeping a bag of air popped ready, so if no one has it he can at least have a small treat. We can't call it popcorn anymore, it is sodawheat.

If we go somewhere and pet another dog, we get a total sniff down when we get back and he is usually miffed for a bit with us. I always tell him I cheated on him, he doesn't like that :lmao: He also knows if we went to the movies and had popcorn without him, he really gets miffed then :rotfl2: I've started bringing him home leftovers in the bag.

When my son goes to sleep, our cat gets in bed with him and licks his hair. Not just a lick or two - she grooms his entire head.

We have two Westies ... both are a never-ending source of entertainment!

The older one, Gizmo, watches television - and has since he was a pup. He particularly likes anything with animals or children.....and I swear he knows the tv ads that have pictures of other Westies (Little Ceasar's)....he will come running from any other part of the house when the first note of the background music plays.

He gets very upset with rodeo commercials (yes, we have those regularly in Oklahoma :lmao:), Funniest Home Videos and commercials for the tv show Wipeout.

The younger dog, Rowdy, thinks he is nuts & will bark at him as he barks at the tv....then Gizmo will turn around and bark at him for barking at him.

Gizmo also LOVES zucchini - that is his most favorite food ever.

The puppy is 7 months old now - we'll be happy when he stops trying to take EVERYTHING outside through their doggy door. We've found our keys, cordless phone, tv remote and his crate pad all outside!

One of our cats drinks water by sticking his paw in the water dish, then licking the water off his paw - it just looks so odd!

One of my cats does this too. Dip, dip, dip then lick, lick, lick - always in threes.

One of my other cats loves green olives. Like it is cat nip or something. If I cook with olive oil - he will come in the kitchen and rub himself all over the floor.

Another one always knows if I am not feeling well or if I am sad etc... she meows until I pick her up and and then she cuddles as much up under my chin as she can get. Doesn't do this any other time.

And finally, my last cat taps me when he wants something. Really. It is like having a little toddler only he doesn't also say "mommy, mommy, mommy" along with it. Thank goodness!

My dogs are disgusting...brother and sister, Mini Schnauzers. The male is constantly licking his sister's butt to the point where he makes it raw. The sister will "wash" her brothers junk from time to time and does it for a good 30 minutes. I tell them "bad touch" but they go right back. They both make me nauseous.

Our ferret Smokey would nip my husband, ONLY my husband. And always at his elbow joint or the back of his knee or his ear. Smokey died last year and his brother, Bandit, has decided to take over the job. :rotfl2:

Bandit also will take any toy he is playing with and guard it between his two front paws, sliding on his chest and 'elbows' while backing up. Nobody takes Bandit's toys, Nobody.

My chihuahua literally tucks himself in when he is laying down in his bed or on the couch. He will sit there and grab the blanket with his paws, then roll under it and cover his whole body including his head, then tuck it in so he's nice and covered.

My beagle is addicted to moving lights. He'd chase a laser until he passed out, if we let him. He also chews gum. Oh, and he ives hugs and loves to push his face into ours.

Our cockatiel can say "Hi Cookie and Hey Cook" and he can whistle the Mexican Hat Dance.

Our lab can sit, lay down, shake hands, say please, and flip a treat off his snout into his mouth.

My Blackie lays UNDER his blankets - not on them. Sometimes I won't even notice his unless he has a bit of paw or tail hanging out:

Oh the things my cats do:
Boz insists on smelling EVERY lit candle even though he has set his facial fur on fire 3 times now. Boo insists on peeing on any male who is in her house, dosent matter if he's friend or foe. Holly sleeps on the heating duct. We have one large one in the basement that she sleeps on all the time. Though this may be an attempt to hide from the kids:rotfl:

my grandmother has a chihuahua who will not eat his food out of his food bowl. he'll get 2-3 pieces in his mouth then walk over to the carpeted dining room floor, drop the food in the spot of his choice, and proceed to eat his food there. he goes back and forth to his food bowl until he's done....nutty dog, lol.

My dog loves to take the cap off of plastic bottles. Whenever we drink a bottle of water we toss the bottle on the ground and he comes running over and usually has the cap off in less than 2 minutes. He holds the bottle between his paws and somehow twists the cap off with his teeth.

He also LOVES to eat kleenex, but only if it's been used. My mom always keeps a few kleenex with her and he will sneak up to her and steal one. He gets very protective if you try to take it away - he'll growl at you and get up and run away with the kleenex in his mouth.

He's a very strange dog :rotfl:

spooky (cat) likes cantaloupe, grits, lemon pepper deli turkey, chicken and oatmeal. only 16 lb cat that will let all the neighbor kids try to pick him up.

sassy (cat)...well she's just a plain ole witch with a capital B. she only likes spooky.

sylvester (cat) he's my rescue baby. i found him a month after katrina and he's the sweetest baby ever. he is a licker. he will climb on the pillows and lick my head. not just a spot, the whole head. he'll do it to hubby too, but he'll also clean his goatee. he also plays the i'm not touching you game with sassy. he can sit there and look so sweet and innocent, but he's really got her cornered and she's not happy at all. i love the i'm not touching you game.

sushi (yellow lab). there's nothing she doesn't like. butter is her favorite. i left a stick on the counter one day to get to room temp and i thought hubby put it back in the fridge, nope. she knows when the butter comes out. she's also a fan of crayons. they're different flavors :thumbsup2 she's also really clueless as a lab on how to hunt or chase things. she's very much an inside girl princess. she's a puppy school graduate and you wouldn't know it. my mom is her most favorite person in the whole entire world. she sees her every day, but it's like she hasn't seen her in months.

they're all so quirky and crazy! i just wish my two babies would hang out together (vester and sushi), but they won't go near each other. :sad2:

our sheltie does this too. she exercises while she eats :)

Anything new brought into the house, my cat wants to sit on it, and she will not eat out of a food dish, she will take pieces out and put them on the floor, then eat them.

For the past two nights, our cats have dumped out their entire toy bin and scattered the toys all over the room - but just that one room. It's bizarre.

One likes water, and will lay in the sink. When DS was little, she would sit up on the edge of the tub and put her paw into his bath. She fell in twice.
