What Was Your Wedding Song and Why?

Our's was U2 "With or without you" Honestly, we just really loved the song and we literally can't live with or without each other :rotfl2:

However, we sort of had two, we danced alone to "with or without you" and then had everyone come up and we danced to Bill Joel "She's got a way"
It was like one big party, my MIL loves U2 and as soon as the song started all you heard was "woo hoo" I swear she was married to Bono in another lifetime :lmao:

We had also pondered using Elvis- "Can't help falling in love" (It was my parents first dance) However, my mom ended up walking me down the aisle to this instead, I didn't tell her ahead of time though and she was just bawling so then I started :rotfl:

"I Will" It is a Beatles song from the White Album. We heard a version by Ben Taylor at the end of the movie, Bye Bye Love. We loved it.

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart

We have two songs, "Keeper of the Stars" by Tracey Byrd and "Made Again" by Marillion.

Made Again:
I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live
But I have never seen these streets so fresh
Washed with morning rain

I have seen this face a thousand times
Every morning of my life
But I never saw these eyes so clear
Free of doubt and pain

Like the whole world has been made again

I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live...

And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Is being made again by you

And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Has been made again by you

Like a bright new morning
Like a bright new day
I woke up from a deep sleep
I woke up from a bad dream

To a brand new morning
To a brand new day
Like the whole world has been made again

My wedding song was "Me And You" by Kenny Chesney. I so love this song. I still tear up when I hear it on the radio.

Mine was the theme song to Robin Hood. I loved it then, but hate it now. I wish we picked something else. Oh well. At least I still love my wife.

However, the second song we danced to was beautiful tonight by eric clapton, that one I still love. I think that is the name of the song. Either that or wonderful tonight.

Am I the only one that didn't have a wedding song? At our reception, which was at a hotel, we had a CD just playing romantic songs. There was no dancing. As far as our ceremony goes, here's what we had:

Seating of grandparents: Edelweiss (from The Sound of Music)

Seating of parents: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring

Bridesmaids: Canon in D

Flower girl and ring bearer: Beauty and the Beast

Processional: Here Comes the Bride

Lighting of Unity Candle: Fairest Lord Jesus

Recessional: Trumpet Voluntary

All played by a harpist.

I cannot remember, so it must not of had much meaning. I am not the sentimental type, so I don't remember these kinds of things.

Our first dance was to Foreigner's Wait For A Girl Like You - after many, many choices, and no decision.... DH heard it on the radio on the way home from work one afternoon - walked in the house singing it....

"It Had To Be You" by Harry Connick, Jr.

Before my DH and I started even dating, he asked if we would ever be anything more than friends. I said no....you are my Harry friend, as in "When Harry Met Sally".

6 months later as the credits were rolling from When Harry Met Sally....he proposed.

Our nicknames for eachother are Harry and Sally.

OK-this is just the sweetest thing!

Our wedding song was "I Swear" by John Michael Montgomery.
The original version.

I SWEAR (John Michael Montgomery)

I see the questions in your eyes
I know what's weighing on your mind
You can be sure I know my part
Cuz I stand beside you through the years
You'll only cry those happy tears
And though I'll make mistakes
I'll never break your heart

I swear by the moon and the stars in the sky
I'll be there
I swear like the shadow that's by your side
I'll be there
For better or worse, till death do us part
I'll love you with every beat of my heart
And I swear

I'll give you every thing I can
I'll build your dreams with these two hands
We'll hang some memories on the wall
And when there's silver in your hair
Won't have to ask if I still care
'Cause as time turns the page,
My love won't age at all

And I swear by the moon and the stars in the sky
I'll be there
I swear like the shadow that's by your side
I'll be there
For better or worse, till death do us part
I'll love you with every beat of my heart
I swear
And I swear by the moon and the stars in the sky
I'll be there
I swear like the shadow that's by your side
I'll be there
For better or worse, till death do us part
I'll love you with every beat of my heart
I swear

Is a 'Grand March' purely a Scottish thing or do other communities do it too?We had a grand march rather than a solo first dance. The Bride and Groom process round the dance floor to Scottish country dance music to be joined after one circuit by the attendants, then next time by the parents. This sort of thing goes on ( too complicated to describe in detail) before the 'queue' sets off up the middle and splits one couple to right, next to left etc and after a few rounds of this and more divisions when the floor is crowded and everyone mingled it becomes a waltz or whatever. Magic fun.

"When You Say Nothing At All" Ronan Keating from the Notting Hill Soundtrack. It's one of our favorite movies and the words are spot on.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

Chorus:
The smile on your face let's me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

Verse 2:
All alone I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Old Mr. Webster could never define
What's being said between your heart and mine

(Chorus twice)

Ours was Groovy Kind of Love by Phil Collins.

We are both Phil Collins fans and the song is just fitting for our relationship. We have been married for 11 years now, and the song is still fitting :thumbsup2

Ours was "You're in my Heart" by Rod Stewart

"You're in my heart, you're in my soul,
You'll be my breath should I grow old,
You are my lover, you're my best friend,
You're in my soul."

I loved that but I think our second choice would have been more appropriate for us. We didn't choose it because we wondered if we could dance to it.

"It had to be you" by Harry Connick Jr.

"...with all your faults, I love you still..."

We've been married almost 14 years and are still amazingly happy (lived together 3 years before that, too). One of our secrets to a happy marriage is accepting each others faults as well as our own and laughing at them both, so our second choice would probably have been more appropriate!

That was nice reading all of these!!

Our wedding song was the theme from Beaches. No, I did NOT pick it!!

My controlling mother changed it at the last minute without telling me!!!

I picked "Here and Now" by Luther Vandross

From the moment I heard that song (while in college) I knew that was the song that I wanted at my wedding. It was my dream and dh agreed.

When it came time for our first dance they started playing Wind Beneath My Wings and I was so confused. We didn't get up at first. Until my mother came over and said this is your song.. you need to go dance! :furious: I was soooo mad!!!! But what could we do but get up and dance :confused3 When questioned my mother basically said "what?? I thought you loved Beaches and that song!" Yeah, but not for my wedding song!

I told dh that if we ever do a remarrying ceremony I WILL get MY song!!

Here are they lyrics:

One look in your eyes and there I see
Just what you mean to me
Here in my heart I believe
Your love is all I'll ever need
Holdin' you close through the night
I need you, yeah

I look in your eyes and there I see
What happiness really means
The love that we share makes life so sweet
Together we'll always be
This pledge of love feels so right
And, ooh, I need you

Here and now
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), hey
Your love is all (I need) I need

Say, yeah, yeah...

When I look in your eyes, there I'll see
All that a love should really be
And I need you more and more each day
Nothin' can take your love away
More than I dare to dream
I need you

Here and now
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), yeah
Your love is all I need

(Starting here) Ooh, and I'm starting now
I believe (I believe in love), I believe
(Starting here) I'm starting right here
(Starting now) Right now because I believe in your love
So I'm glad to take the vow

Here and now, oh
I promise to love faithfully (Faithfully)
You're all I need
Here and now, yeah
I vow to be one with thee (You and me), yeah
Your love is all I need

Our song was "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You" from "The Mask of Zorro" which was one of the first movies we went to when we were dating.

I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You
-Tina Arena & Marc Anthony

Moon so bright night so fine
Keep your heart here with mine
Life's a dream we are dreaming

Race the moon catch the wind
Ride the night to the end
Seize the day stand up for the light

I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do

Heroes rise heroes fall
Rise again, win it all
In your heart, can't you feel the glory

Through our joy, through our pain
We can move worlds again
Take my hand, dance with me

I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do
I will want nothing else to see me through
If I can spend my lifetime loving you

Though we know we will never come again
Where there is love, life begins
Over and over again

Save the night, save the day
Save the love, come what may
Love is worth everything we pay

I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do
I want to spend my lifetime loving you
If that is all in life I ever do
I will want nothing else to see me through
If I can spend my lifetime loving you

Ours was "I'll Still Be Loving You" By Restless Heart, it is such a pretty song!!

I

Ours, too.

DH was a country music fan, I wasn't, but I wanted to find something that he could appreciate. I love this song, because it wasn't what everyone else was choosing, and because of this line "When today is just a memory to me, I know I'll still be loving you."

I considered "When You Wish Upon a Star" because we were engaged at WDW, and were separated for most of our relationship. I also considered "You're In My Heart," but decided to do the country song for DH.

We also played "Feed Jake" by the Pirates of the Mississippi, in honor of DH's dog, Jake, who was not invited to the wedding. :teeth:
