What was your last unexpected bill?

We're moving. Moving company kept leaving the doors to the house open in 100+ weather. Kids kept turning down the ac to try to make up for it. Apparently the plumbing to the condensation pan was clogged up. $420 bill, but at least the condensation pan didn't overflow and destroy the ceiling.

So far a filter for the refrigerator BUT I may still need to call a repairman if I don't get any ice by the morning. This for a refrigerator that is only 2 years old. The stove needed a new part a couple months ago and that is only 2 years old. I'm not real happy with the appliances right now. Should have gotten the extended warranties.

LOL. Well I got an Explanation of Benefits today for my ablation. Total amount the hospital billed the insurance, $198,000 !!!!! Medicare allows $30,000 for the procedure. My Medicare supplement paid $1,600. My responsibility, ZERO. So the hospital is willing to accept $32,000 as total payment for something they billed $198,000 for.

My DH just had this done..........waiting to see what our responsibility is........wow.....hope you are feeling well!!

Thanks. So far, so good. They say it takes 3 months to find out if it worked, so I won't know until September.

Yes - DH had it done last week. Hoping it works for both of you!!!!

Take your pick -
Had a pinprick leak in the water line in the fridge we didn't know about, leaked down a small crack in the floor for who knows how long and eventually broke through the ceiling in the basement so new ceiling in the basement and new floor in the kitchen (all the tiles cracked).

Microwave broke so had to buy a new one.

I had a scheduled outpatient gall bladder removal surgery scheduled, when they got in there turned into full 4 hour surgery with 2 nights stay in the hospital. Should have been a $375 co-pay and that was all. So far I've had to pay the difference in a $375 co pay for outpatient and per night deductible for hospital stay (total of $560) and got a bill yesterday for $500 and something from the pathologist (they sent off a total of 6 biopsys because the surgeon was convinced it was cancer, it was not). Turns out the pathologist was out of network. Insurance paid one bill but not 2 others. Looked on insurance site (Humana) and said I don't owe the other two because the pathologist office had mis-coded them and had been informed of that. Looked on pathologist site and it just said the two were dis-allowed and I owed the bill. I'm going to call them in a couple of days to get it fixed. Shame most people will just pay those kind of bills when they come in instead of researching them and I'm thankful that both Humana and the Pathologist and the hospital have sites you can check.

Our dog is at the vet hospital right now getting cataracts removed from both eyes. It will be somewhere between $3500 and $4000. We paid a deposit of $2000 yesterday. She was fine up until about 2 months ago when she started refusing to go up and down stairs, took her to her vet and she said it was cataracts so we had to to schedule with UGA vet school to have them removed. We had researched and knew it was going to be expensive but didn't know the actual cost until pre-op visit yesterday. Now, we are on pins and needles until later this afternoon to make sure the surgery goes o.k. since we had to have the she might die on the table paperwork yesterday. Had the same paperwork for myself last month but for some reason it's more scary for the little yorkie then it was for me.

It's been a bad few months for us, hubby has also had to go back and forth to South Ga. because his dad has some mystery bacteria in his lungs and has to keep going to the hospital. They live in a small town and the hospital is a hour away in Savannah and they can't drive themselves. At first they thought it was TB, it wasn't. During all this drama between his parents, me and the dog, hubby's grandmother also died.

Real Estate taxes on a rental property from 2022. Thought I had paid them already.

I have to say, as something that is as serious as surgery on your heart, and took 5 hours and required an overnight hospital stay, it really wasn't a big deal for me. Sitting in the waiting room for 7 hours (5 hours for the surgery, 2 hours while I was in the recovery room) was much harder for my wife than anything I experienced.

Lots this week. $300 last night for a one nigth stay near the Toronto airport due to flight cancellation. $400 today for an in room AC unit in our house while we await a repairman. $200 to fix my car's AC that also blew out as well on Friday.

Well, I'm going to blame this thread. Found water leaking from somewhere in the basement on Sunday. After tryin to figure out what it was, we found a large crack in the cast-iron pipe leading to the sewer. Plumbers came today to inspect and turns out more of it was damaged than we thought. That replacement, along with draining and moving the hot water heater to get to the pipe, is going to run about $3700. And they can't get to it until next Monday, so two bathrooms are out of commission. At least we have the money to fix it and a third bathroom downstairs not connected to that specific sewer line. :upsidedow

by any chance did you originaly purchase with a credit card? if so and either came with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty and you were just under the 2 year mark you might have an additional year of warranty under the credit card and you could make a claim on it for reimbursement.
