My first trip was February 1979. I had just turned 2 in December, so I don't remember too much of that trip other than being with my parents and grandparents. We would drive from PA to Daytona for the Daytona races and take a trip over to Orlando for one day. I found pictures from that trip and from what I saw it wasn't busy and the characters were just walking around. I just remember having a good time with my parents and grandparents and that is all that mattered. We would go back every year for one day in February. Over the next years I would remember more and more of the trips there (riding the skyway and my grandmother being scared being that high, spinning the tea cups so fast, riding 20,000 Leagues). The one ride that always did stick in my head was If You Had Wings. The song would get stuck in my head and I would keep singing it over and over until my parents would tell me to stop. We would continue this tradition until I think I was almost in Middle School. Then we would just go every other year. In 1991 and 1993 we got to go twice as my HS band performed at WDW. That was another special time for me as for a little bit of time, we were treated like cast members and we got to see backstage areas. The one memory I have from the 1993 trip was we marched around WS lagoon and it was 90 degrees out and the band was wearing the full heavy uniforms (I was lucky as I was a majorette and had a shorter skirt on), once we were done performing most of my friends changed into shorts and shirts and found the fountain as you are crossing to world showcase and decided to play in it because it was so hot and they needed to cool down.
I have always loved being at the parks, but it was more about who I was with instead of planning every waking momet of the trip. To this day, that is the way I plan my trips. Sure there are schedules, but not to the minute. If we want to see something, we stop and see it, if not, we pass by.
