Really enjoyed Sideways. A gentle film and a real change from all the huge special effect blockbusters.

Sin City was also an incredible (if very violent) film.

The Chronicles of Narnia and Willy Wonka. Narnia wins hands down for me

Thanks guys some great ones I'd forgotten about. I miss going to the cimena. Pre-kids we had monthly passes and would go any evening there was nothing we fancied on TV. Now it's a military opperation!

I Know that my fave film for 2006 will be Pirates of the Caribbean 2

I let DH read your responses and can you believe it - he said that it might not be any good! I had a few choice words to say to him but then he reminded me that, on paper, the first one didn't look like it would much cop (beyond the eye candy (for me not him!))

I loved Willy Wonka and Nanny McPhee the Wedding Crashers was ok too. My favourite is a bit of a cheat as I saw it last week in Orlando Chicken Little OMG he is so cute you just want to take him home. The kids loved it too and have brought home a couple of Chicken Little bits and pieces with them.

I don't think 2005 was a vintage year, by any means, but I thought Narnia was a magnificent film (and I'm listening to the music right now - wonderful score by Harry Gregson-Williams) and Batman Begins was well made and very watchable. War of the Worlds and King Kong were deeply flawed story-wise for me (if superb for the visuals), while Wedding Crashers and Harry Potter IV were over-rated, IMHO. Loved Cinderella Man and Wallace & Gromit - Curse of the Were-rabbit (Stephen Park is definitely a modern-day film genius). Star Wars III was a great movie 'event' but the acting just didn't live up to story. Fell about laughing (twice) at Madagascar but Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was maddeningly uneven.

Films I haven't caught yet but wish I had are A History of Violence, Memoirs of a Geisha, Casanova, Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck.

How about what films do you most want to see in 2006?

Steve Spielberg's Munich looks essential viewing and The New World (with Colin Farrell and Christian Bale) looks excellent, while Thank You For Smoking could be very funny and Ice Age 2 should be as good as the first. Inside Man (Denzel Washington, Clive Wilson and Jodie Foster) could be the big hit, though it will have to battle with the film version of The Da Vinci Code. For kids, watch out for The Hedge, The Wild and X-Men 3!

How did I forget Pirates of the Caribbean 2? If it's only half as good as the first, it will still be great!

Definitely looking forward to Ice Age 2, and if my car (RX-8) is in X-Men 3 like it was in X-Men 2 (ok, I'm a bit of a car nerd) I'll definitely be watching that regardless!

I don't get the chance to get to the cinema too often but agree that 2005 wasn't a great year.
Most of the movies I see are when I buy them on DVD, I have a big widescreen TV although it can never capture the magic of the cinema.

Nothing in recent times has come close to the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, I enjoyed Saw/Saw 2 because I like horror films that are bit different to the Freddie Kruger type and am looking forward to the rumoured 3rd movie in the Bourne Identity/Supremacy trilogy.

I did enjoy Batman Begins, although it was a shade too long and like War Of The Worlds (because I love Alien movies etc) - hence my love of all thing's 'X-files'.....I am not sure about 2006 , I actually plan on buying the new 'Empire' film magazine today that previews this years movies, I know Superman is on the list this year so maybe we can watch out for that...and would love to see a Spiderman 3 as both 1&2 were brilliant, in my opinion of course

Best for me, Harry Potter although did enjoy king kong, narnia and wallace and gromit.
worst - charlie and the chocolate factory, I came out feeling like I'd just stuffed an enormous box of choccies, you know the feeling quite alright when you're doing it but extraordinarily unsatisfying after!!

Two films that could challenge that list which i have on DVD but have not watched yet are Sideways and Crash - also Ong Bak is still to be watched and could be a contender. For now, here's that list:

4 weeks ago I'd have been adamant that King Kong would be in the top three - then I saw it! I will buy it on DVD as I think a second viewing is needed, but the initial viewing was a huge disappointment.

episode 3 was amazing and well worth the wait, I enjoyed nanny Mcphee, harry potter and narnia, i had lvod the books since I was a kid and couldn,t wait to see narnia ,and I loved it but, by far the best film i have seen all year, in fact any year for a long time was king kong, i really didnt want to go and i dont like long films but I took DD aged 7 as everyone was talking about it at school and she wanted to see it, it was amazing, absolutely edge of the seat stuff, with a bit of sobbing at the end, that poor miss understood monkey!
I saw the producers this week which was stupid but funny and while there they showed an advert for Munich which looked really good, obviously cant wait for pirates 2 and ice age2 although I feel that these films are adverised far too early, when i went to see harry potter in november they were showing an advert for a robin williams penguin movie for november 2006, i love to plan but thats ridiculous!

Crickey you all seem to be film buffs!!!.....I dont seem to have the patience with films unless it gets my 100% attention in the first 2 mins and I always seem to need a wee at the wrong moment!!!.......therefore I would rather watch the 10000000th reruns of Only Fools and Horses!!!!

We loved the Wedding Crashers, War of the worlds, Batman Begins, Herbie, Mr and Mrs smith, Crash, Monster in Law, and Hitch

We did watch most of the skeleton Key but switched that of but can't remember why?


Worst films were, Into the Blue, The 40 year old virgin, and another for the anchor man.

Forgot to say we watched March of the penguins and we loved it

we never go out to see movies, always wait until they're on DVD....although i will go to Pride and Prejudice, once it gets here -- but it hasn't yet (i'm a P&P nut case....have seen every version of it, though my favorite is the one from 1985)...

anyway....movies that I've seen this year....Batman Begins was excellent...i loved it....i didn't want to see it and so didn't rent it until last week (when there was nothing else to rent) and really really enjoyed it...

actually i did see Flightplan in the theatre, and thought it was ok, but not great.... much better than Flightplan is Red Eye (which as it happens i also saw in the theatre)...

and now that i think about it, we also saw War of the Worlds in the theatre (at the AMC in DTD).....it was ok, but not great....lots of stupid aspects to the story line...

lets see...what else....i rented a movie i'd never heard of called "Elvis has Left the Building"...and surprisingly we enjoyed it.....it's not a great movie, but it's funny and entertaining...i don't know what year it's from however......as i said, i'd never heard of it before..

It's hard to remember what movies are from 2005, since we rent so many....another one we rented, that may or may not be from 2005, was "Suddenly 30" with jennifer garner.....a nice cute movie....

and in the Red Eye/Flightplan genre, but from 2004 or 2003, and much better than both of them, is Cellular....really well acted by Kim Bassinger (who's also in Elvis has Left the Building)...

there are a lot of movies I haven't seen yet (it sometimes takes a long time for them to get here)...
and a few i won't see because i can't stand the actors (e.g., mr. and mrs. smith - i can't stand anjolina jolie)...

i haven't seen Wedding Crashers or 40 Year old Virgin yet....waiting for them to get to the rental place here...

Just remembered another 2005 film I really enjoyed - The Pacifier. Watched it on the way to Orlando last year and it made me laugh out loud a few times
