When I was very young we had to go to bed at 8:00pm. As I got older it slowly became later. In junior high it was 9:00, then 9:30. Now as an adult I go to bed at 11:00pm. I’m glad I had a set bedtime growing up, I needed my sleep and left to my own devices, would have stayed up much too late.
When I was a kid in elementary school it was 8 pm, so I had to be home by 730 pm to take a bath. Only kid on the block with such an early bed time, and in the summer all the other kids were still out playing when I went to bed.
For the brief one year period that I worked normal hours, bedtime was in the 11 pm to Midnight range, to be up at 8 am to be at work at 9 am
For 25 years I worked graveyard shift my bedtime was 9 am ( yes AM)
The past 10 years, it has been 7 pm to be up at 2 am to be at work at 3 am.
My kids bedtime varied. We aimed for 9 pm, but when it got to be about May and Little League games went until 830 pm, dinner was after that, then homework and a shower, we were lucky if it was 1030 pm. And even when the kids DID make it to bed by 9 pm, many times I had a face in each of the front bedrooms waving goodbye at 10:45 pm when I was heading to work when I worked graveyard shift.
