In May of 1998 that was my familes 1st time ever staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel & it was at the Contemporary. On our last day my Dad made an ADR that night for Chef Mickey's & it was the very 1st restaurant we went to that is owned & run by Walt Disney World. In the past because we had stayed off site we only went to counter service locations in the Theme Parks. We also had dinner in December 1997 at the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney, however since WDW does not own the Rainforest I don't consider it to be the 1st WDW owned restaurant we ever been to.

So which was the 1st WDW owned restaurant you & your family ever went to?

We stayed for the fist time in 98 . We stayed at the polynesian and our first meal was at the Ohanas character breakfast. We had no adr or anything. I didnt know about the dis back then.

During my first trip in 1988 and it was the Hoop De Doo review dinner. Got the reservations the same day.

We were at the Garden Grill in Epcot for the ice cream social back in May 2004.

Oh I wish they'd bring that back!!

Our first trip to WDW was in 2000. We began our trip by dining at Chef Mickey's for dinner on our first night. I had done all the planning for the trip, and my husband and kids (5 & 7 at the time) had no idea what a character meal was. They thought we were just going out for a regular meal after travelling all day. I'll never forget the look on their faces when we walked into the restaurant and were greeted by Goofy! The kids had a blast and I took a zillion photos. My very nonDisney husband even loved every minute of it.

That night will always be a special memory for me. I hope my kids will always remember it too!

Garden Gallery (Galley?) at the Disney Inn. January 1992.

I was actually arriving for my first WDW stay a few days later, but I was already in Orlando, and I couldn't resist driving down to take a look around. Especially considering I had been wanting to go since 1971.

Not sure how I ended up at the Disney Inn - maybe I had read that it was quiet, and a good place to go for an uncrowded lunch. But I spent a good piece of the day just driving around the property, visiting the resort hotels. I'm sure I took a ride on the monorail, even though back then there was (theoretically) a ticket required for non-ticket holders.

Lots of guys in suits eating lunch - this was a place where Disney execs would often go.

WDW was a very different place at the time - no guard shacks, and if you stood outside the Beach Club and looked across the lake, all you saw was landscaping and trees.

Good topic.

February 1991 my first trip to WDW since 1971. We had lunch at Chef's de
France. I had French onion soup and crepes!

Papeete Bay Verandah, Poly resort, September 1975. What a great restaurant. I still remember that evening---

My first few trips I only had counter service or we ate offsite.

In June 2001, we took our first family trip. I had planned a few sit-down meals for the trip, but the first day we were in MK, and I had planned to just eat counter service there. Well, it was a hot, humid day, and despite our excitement at being in WDW, we were sweaty, tired and more than a little overwhelmed by lunchtime. We decided to have lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern instead of counter service. I think that decision saved the rest of our day! It was so cool and relaxing there, and the food at lunch was not too heavy for a day in the park. We had a very nice meal, and we were ready to get back to park-touring when we were finished. :cool1:

I'll never forget...1997 Lunch at Crystal Palace. It was a surprise for my then 3yr old dd who loved all things Pooh at the time. My baby was 16 months old. We took our 1st ride on Dumbo right before lunch and she scrapped her knee getting out of the ride and was crying :sad2: Pooh made it all better! She also got picked to dance with Cinderella and Prince Charming during the afternoon parade...all on our 1st day there!
:tinker: What a magical 1st trip to WDW!

My first trip was in the early 80's pre-Epcot first counter serve was Columbia Harbour House, still one of my favorites. Table serve was Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch.

Tonys Town Square. We had just had a long drive (4 hours) and we were starving. After taking pics for our Seasonal passes at City Hall, we went into Tony's, since it was *right there*. It was delish, and afterwards, we stepped outside, and realized it was less than an hour to parade time. There was a nice spot on the curb to wait. It was a wonderfull start to my families first trip to WDW since I was 18 (Grad Nite) I dont tremember my first as a child. I dont think we did much if any TS in those days... :grouphug:

Christmas Day, 2005 --- It was an awesome start to our very first Disney vacation and Chef Mickey's for dinner absolutely made our Christmas

Chef Mickey's in 1986 (?) when it was located at the Village Marketplace...I think that's what it was called then long before it moved to the Contemporary Resort. NO trip for me is complete without either having breakfast there on my first day or last...shaking up the tradition a little bit this time and having dinner there on the last day :cool1: had quite a few other character meals in the past 20 yrs and loved the Crystal Palace but still a CM diehard :yay:

My first meal was in 1982 in the CR "The Top of the World". I loved the formal atmosphere, and the romantic feel of the restaurant. My BF, now my DH, had a wonderful meal, and then strolled out onto the observation deck. It was a lovely way to begin a magical stay together.

Adventureland Veranda for lunch (it was counter service) in May 1973. What a treat that was! I wish it was still open. For dinner that night we went to Crystal Palace--WAY, WAY before it became a character meal. They had the best ambrosia I ever had! Yum!

The 1st Restaurant for us was Tony Town Square for breakfast. I really miss having breakfast there as it became a family tradition for us.
