What was the park situation just after Charley?

DH and I are supposed to be leaving 7:55pm this Friday from Baltimore into Orlando. We are so upset right now, not knowing if we should postpone our trip (if we are even able to) or not. I am worried that even if we make it down there safely that the parks may be out of commission.

I was wondering what was it like at the parks just before and also just after Charley? Did they close the parks early beforehand? Were they opened the next day or did they remain closed for a while? I'm just trying to get an idea of how soon the parks might have things up and running, so we can decide whether it would be worth going or not.

If you can postpone you should. The governor has asked all tourists to postpone their Labor Day vacations.

To answer your question, Charley was a lesser threat than Frances so the damage from Frances is expected to be greater than that of Charley. As far as the parks, they closed for Charley at 1pm the day before the storm and all but the Animal Kingdom opened as scheduled the next morning. However this storm is expected to be a SLOW mover so if it stays on course I would not be surprised to see WDW close early on Friday, be closed Saturday and Sunday... Really depends on the storm, where it makes landfall, what time of day it is and how fast it leaves, then it will depend on the damage that it left behind. Remember that Charley came through early evening and with the Ride out and clean up crews WDW was able to get back into to shape by 9am... if Frances does what forecasters are saying she will it won't be that easy.
