What was one item you wish you had for YOURSELF after labor & delivery?

What is the one tangible item (NOT service) that you would have loved to have had with you at the hospital or just after you got home? For YOU, not for the baby. Something to pamper yourself. It MUST fit in a bag. Non-Perishable food would be okay.

Unrealistily... One really good nights sleep. I started into labor just as I was getting ready for bed... didn't have him till 8pm the next night

Realisticly... Probably a massage.

Good question! I would say a housecoat that looked nice, instead of feeling like I couldn't wear anything that would be ruined, or a real meal. Not fast food, or hospital food. Something yummy and nourishing to help heal me!

Food, I was ravenous. But, realistically, something I wish I would have taken with my first delivery was my pillow (I forgot). I took all ( 4)of our king sized bed pillows the next 2 deliveries. I know the nurses thought I was crazy...but it was so comforting.

When I returned home, I wish I would have prepared meals ahead of time and frozen them. Take out/hospital food gets old really quick.

DW asked for a REAL coke (not caffine free or Diet) and a piece of her shower cake. She was diabetic both times while pregnant. She longed for sweets.
The second delivery, people brought her Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream and cake.

I have been trying to come up with something and I can't!

I ate a sandwhich about an hour after I gave birth. Went home 2 hours after that. My Mom made me BLT's and brought me lots of water. I was pretty much set!

It made my 2nd time so much easier... I took my boppy pillow for holding the baby. And for home I got a horseshoe pillow for my neck for those nights I was feeding her on the couch in the middle of the night. That way if we dozed off it wasn't a big deal and I didn't have neck cramps!

A nice juicy steak from Outback! After nearly 24 hours of not eating, I got a cold croissant sandwich! (Of course, it tasted like a gourmet sandwich I was soooo hungry!! )

A haircut!! I had loooooooooong hair when my first DS was born and I sooooo wanted to be able to hop in and out of the shower quickly. Before second DS was born (pre-planned C-Section) I made sure I got a shorter cut and Naired all hairy body parts.

I should have specified "something that could go in a bag" - It needs to fit into a bag and I'd love to put a steak or BLT in but that won't work.

You guys gave birth at the wrong hospitals. LOLOL!

The hospital I worked at treated the OB patients very well...they had to keep up with the competing hospital on the other side of town. Ha! Parents got a steak dinner, candlelight, champagne, and matching bathrobes.

Depends on how big the bag is, but I wish I would have had one of those twin sized foam eggcarton pads for my bed. The last hospital I gave birth in had birthing suites and you stayed in one bed the entire time. This meant that you had to sleep in the breakdown bed you gave birth in and it was very uncomfortable. It felt like I was sitting in a hole. If I could have had one of those foam pads under me, I think it would have been a lot more comfortable.

Wow, steak, champagne and candles in a hospital? I could have gone for that.

I wish I'd had pajamas instead of a nightgown and thicker socks. They keep those hospitals so cold!!!

A nanny! Our first was born with health problems, and I sure could've used an extra pair of hands with her. Luckily the second was healthy from day one.

The hospital I delivered 2 of my children offered a candlelight gourmet dinner package for the new parents. It was expensive, but WAY worth it.
