What UY is Disney currently selling for AKV?

For anyone who has bought AKV thought Disney recently, what UY are available or being sold? Which seem to be sold out?

I actually spoke with Disney last night, the current use year is June. That's not the ideal use year for us, would we be able to get another one or do they strictly sell month by month?

If you have decided to buy from Disney, let your Guide know which UY you want. They will let you know as soon as points become available.

Frankly, I always think more importance is placed on use year than there needs to be. No matter what your use year is, you can book at the 11 month window, and only if you are prone to cancelling shortly before your trip is use year of any importance. If it makes the difference between buying now or next year, I'd probably take what was available.

We are buying in to AK and were told the use year is June. I think this is good because we are getting this June's points and then when they open in May of 2009 we will be just about to get another year's points to use, plus the developer points to use over the course of the next twelve months.

I know I'm new here, but I totally agree. I don't see why so much emphasis is placed on UY on this board. As far a the June UY goes at AKL, it works very well for the first year, as 2008 points can't be used until May, so assuming these are banked, it's like getting double points for June '09.

I am new here too. But, just wanted to say we are getting the extra points too, it didn't matter if our use year was June or October - either way we are getting the 2008 points this year with no MF too.

When I was at Woodfield over the weekend (at the Disney timeshare store there) I was told they still have March UY points available. I was asking for add-on potential, not sure if that's true for new buyers too...

I need December. Are they only selling 2008 points now, or is there a chance they still have some from 2007?

Really and truly, our guide didn't have a problem with it at all. Maybe at the time you were buying it was different for Jambo House. Right now, we bought in at Kidani village. I still consider myself new. I just started researching and reading boards for about a month and just bought in ourselves this week!

I just bought 200 points yesterday and was told it would be June. They are "preselling" right now since the Kidani Village isn't built yet. The HUGE advantage is that they can't start charging dues until the units open in April or May next year!!!! Almost a year of points with no dues! That's a huge advantage on these right now. Not to mention the extra developer points as well.

We just joined and were given a choice of UY. We were mostly talking about summer and fall so not sure if every month was available, but again we were given a choice of what we thought was best for us. The guide was very helpful and we went with August.

Thank you, I guess I am lucky then at least for now. Who knows 20 years from now though - I may wish that I had taken the June UY......We live up north though and don't see ourselves wanting to travel to Florida in the summer months - it is just too beautiful up here this time of year!

Hi, I'm new to the DVC forums and have been lurking here since we returned from our vacation in Jan.
We're going to be buying into DVC in the next month, and I'm very interested in this statement. I want to make sure I understand, because if your saying what I think you are, then it doesn't matter what UY we have at all.

Example: We normally vacation in Jan. If we buy in May and use those 2008 points for our Jan 2009 trip, can we make our reservations in Feb 2009 for our Jan 2010 trip (11 month window assumably) even though we wouldn't have any points available again until May 2009?
I do hope my question isn't confusing, but if you can book at the 11 month window at your home resort on points you don't technically have yet, then UY doesn't really mean that much after all.

Yes, you'd be able to make the reservation. As long as the points will be in your account when they are needed, they can be used for a reservation.

That's why our UY has never been important to us. We live a lot more than "386 miles from the Mouse," so months before our trip we'll have bought airplane tickets for the group. It would have to be a true emergency for us to cancel, and we've never had to. Because of that UY has never come into play.

But the fact remains that it could, and in that case, if your use year was less than 4 months from when you had to cancel, you would lose those points unless you could find a last minute reservation... This is when use year matters. Its just easier to book a trip IMMEDIATLY after you recieve your points so that if you need to cancel, you have time to either A) rebook B) Rent C) transfer or D) Bank those points...
