What use year makes most sense if we plan on going in October - April or July/August in most years ? We will probably never go in September and while the kids are in school for the next 12 years will not go in May or June.

Planning on calling tonight and sealing the deal !!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

Thanks !

We normally travel in the fall or winter. When we were looking for a resale, our agent told us October would be best for us. He said that if we planned on traveling during November (Jersey week) most years and our plans fell through for some reason, we would have almost a whole year to reschedule. It made sense to us, so we went with it!

Good luck with finalizing your purchase!!!

IMHO, I would say April. That way if your plans fall through for your vacations, it will happen before your 6 month banking window. (Note, if your October vacation plans fall through, you would need to cancel them 31 days in advance to keep from going into a hold account and prior to 10/1 to bank those points.)

I'm not sure about how many points you are looking to buy...but you might consider two contracts with two different use years.

We generally travel April -June...with a Feb UY. Now our school system has changed their calendar and we have the first full week in January off. If we ever have to cancel our Jan trip, we'll be in trouble. When we do an add on, we'll most likely buy a resale with a later UY.

I wouldn't worry about it. Rarely does use year come into effect. It only matters if you have to cancel a reservation that is late in your use year. Most likely you will find that your vacation pattern will change over time and what seems good today won't seem the same in 10 years.

Good luck.

I would say October for you. We have similar vacationing habits and my experience now tells me October would have been a better Use Year for me. We currently have February, which makes our annual January jaunt to VB a bit tricky, but it all works. My pal HBC is right, that you shouldn't worry too much about it.

When you come right down to it, UY is not going to matter all that much. The reason we got February was that it was the earliest UY from when we were buying, and since we were giving up current year points, we wanted the UY that would get us the points to use soonest.

I PMed you.

I think what you are saying is that you could go in any particular year at any time except Sep, May or June. In that case, I would not even worry about what use year you get. It has nothing to do with when you can go (any time of year) or when you make a ressie (always up to 11 months in advance at home resort, 7 months at others). It only makes a difference for the risk of cancellation. Under banking rules, if you are going to bank all your points you must do so by the end of the 6th month of your use year. Thus, some who go only during the same time every year avoid missing that banking date due to a cancellation if they have a use year that begins any month up to 6 months before the usual trip month, e.g., if they cancel two months or so before a trip they can still bank all the points. For anyone who is likely to go at different times every year, trying to factor in the cancellation risk to choice of use year is pointless.
