What unusual thing has your dog eaten?

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

It might be easier to write what our lab mix hasn't eaten! The scariest thing was my thyroid medicine. She ate an entire bottle of them. :scared1: I called the vet and he wasn't the least bit worried -- said with her size and metabolism, the most that would happen would be a little hyperactivity.

Her favorite thing is, she can find a loaf of bread or a package of buns no matter where we put it. No matter what, I can't convince my family to remember to put them on top of the fridge. :sad2: We just can't keep bread in the house.

The weirdest thing was a string mop. i don't know when he ate it,but he threw it up in my kitchen :guilty: Nasty

Our 4yo Bichon ate a bottle of our older dog's pain meds when he was about 6mths. Since older dog was much larger and it was a pretty new bottle he spent the weekend at the Animal Hospital. The entire weekend they let us know about other strange items he'd obviously eaten also

The worst he's done are the holes in the top of our leather couch, my quilt and recently holes in my 14yo DD's new jeans. He likes stiff fabrics.

Indigo our Black Lab has eaten...

2 small green army men
1 bar of Ivory Soap
A bottle of baby vitamin drops
A pound of butter wrappers and all
5 lbs of Red Swedish Fish ( A christmas Present from SAMS Club)
3 chicken wings bones
Diapers
Coffee filters and grounds
Cat litter....dirty
Flower Bulbs
Grass, flowers and weeds.
Bees (which stung her in the mouth....benydryl had to be given)
crayons

I know we should not leave this stuff around but she is good at getting to things she should not get into. Also DS leaved stuff around and Indigo eats it.

needless to say we keep Peroxide on hand. Our vet told us to give her 2 tsp to make her vomit. When she eats something we dont want her to vomit but we want her to pass we have to give her 3 slices of bread soaked in milk. So far so good she always is fine. I am very glad my vet is my neighbor. :dogdance:

I LOVE this thread! (Coming from the owner of the battery eating dog!)

I listed many of the things my dog has eaten on the battery thread, but here goes:

Any of his soft toys- stuffing and all
Two entire tennis balls
Two rope toys
a hoop earring
the alarm sensor off a window
a chicken bone
the looped part of his leash
He has chewed and eaten several parts of water bottles
a pad from the fish tank filter
Cat Litter- both cat poopies and clumps of wet urine!
the leg of a desk chair
Several books
The mail
my bra strap
the strap of a nightgown
several flip flops (ONLY the left ones)
One sneaker, one Teva, and one older sandal
Toilet paper
paper towels
The cord to my laptop charger (that was $$$$)
Several washcloths
Cat toy mice
Rocks
sticks
anything foam or plastic - I once walked him around the entire neighborhood while he carried a take-out foam dinner container around in his mouth (he couldn't even see where he was going). When we got home, he ate it.
And a battery!

The last thing was my cell phone a week ago. He didn't actually swallow it, but chewed on it to the point that it no longer worked and I had to go buy a new one, thanks Dash.

We are making Christmas ornaments for our Disney tree right now and just this morning I wondered out loud to DD if they would be safe from Dash. He loved the candy canes and any low ornaments on the trees last year.

Other casualities of Dash... toys, socks, bags, books, a wall, home-made pillows I have made especially for his kennel, any paper within his reach. When will he outgrow this "puppy" stage?

Our first Golden ate sooo many things....the more memorable were:
the wall while we were on vacation and he was being dog-sat. That gave him a severe case of lead poisoning, as it was an old house and had lead-based plaster. He lived.
He got into the garbage and got a tomato soup can with the lid still attached stuck on his tongue- had to have stitches with that one.
A calculator
many television channel changers
Barbies- or more accurately, just their fingers and toes
Rat poison (it happened after he was shaved because he rolled in tar- went over into the neighbors garage and brought it home. Our neighbors SWEAR it was a cry for help
When our neighbors house was being built I ended up on bed rest during my pregnancy with DS10. Couldn't watch the dog when I let him out- but we were the only "inhabited" house on our street. The construction guys next door complained how the "coons" kept stealing their lunch......never confessed who the "coon" was.....seems I let Butch out about noon everyday, about the time lunches disappeared. The day he came home with a snack pudding (unopened) in his mouth, I knew who the real culprit was!
Butchie also ate a whole bar of ivory soap. My DD18 was 3 and she kept telling me that Butchie was blowing bubbles and I wouldn't believe her. Then I noticed that Butchie kept belching- and bubbles would come out. honest! He was quite a dog!

Our old black lab, merri puppy (we lost her a year ago today :<) once ate a whole box of Lady Godiva chocolates- cardboard, plastic wrap and all. I was so mad I yelled at her that I hoped she was poisoned enough to.....well, have awful consequences. Only consequences was REALLY bad gas- enough to have to evacuate the house. You know it's bad when the dog passes gas and gets up and moves to a new room!

Our coon hound, Lilly is not a chewer. Our Golden pup, Seamus, however, eats everything. His list so far:
My oldest DD18's expensive riding boots
Three pairs of my husbands shoes (think he would learn to put them away)
More underwear and socks than you can count.
Stuffed animals and pillow- he loves to "gut" them and spread the insides all over the house
Bread, bread and more bread (rolls, donuts, anything doughie)
Cat food (oh, the gas!)
DVDs and CDs
Newspaper
Guitar picks (mercifully, they seem to pass)
The bannister, walls, chair rails, or anything wood or plaster that he can reach when crated or locked in a room
A bottle of tylenol (he was forced to urp that up! Doggie on ipecac is NOT fun)
an entire cherry pie
channel changers and a cell phone (not ruined, just chewed up a little)
The cats...he chews on their heads and they end up all slobbery. Why they don't run away beats me!?!

Explain to me again WHY we have dogs? And I know I wouldn't trade mine for all the money in the world.

My first Weimaraner ate one of those suction cup things with a hook on the end of it that you hang things on. I had a small wreath hanging on my back door (window part) and it must've fallen off. Or he possibly jumped up and took the wreath off himself. In any event, when I came home from work that day I found the wreath on the floor, but not the suction cup/hook thingy.

Several days later I found it sticking out of one of his turds! Thank goodness he passed it without doing any damage to himself!

Remember those scented cartridges for vacuum cleaner bags? Had a whole package of strawberry ones. Goof-ball dog ate the entire package. Sweetest smelling pharts for two weeks.

Well, my dog ate some shoelaces and BBQ charcoal once. He also managed to get into the garbage no matter how we sealed it off. We finally had to invest in a garbage can with a latch on four sides.

I thought all that was weird, but after reading this thread, I am thankful that is all he ate!

I just want to say how much I love this thread. I havent laughed this hard in a while. :lmao:

Thanks
Kerri

Something the corn on the cob reminded me of (ew, I'd hate to see how it came out), I used to have a dog and we fed him some kind of canned food that had veggies in it. This dog would clean up his bowl, but leave ALL the peas behind! I have no idea how he could wolf down that food without getting the peas. :confused3

Better question -- what hasn't my dog eaten? :sad2:

I'd like to say anything that is nailed down, but has done that too.

Began when we got our Shepherd at 3 months. She proceeded to eat our couch, the baseboards, the door on the patio, the cabinet under the bathroom sink, the shelf in my son's room, the potted plant I used to have in the dining room, an entire box of crayons, entire bags of garbage when we were sleeping, a box of match cars, several books and Heaven knows what else has disappeared in her 10 years.

:sad2: Of course now, I wonder why she is so gaseous at night. :confused3

Our late cocker spaniel, Riley, was always stealing things to eat. Here are some of our favorites...
A lemon rind
My aunt's pearl earrings (they came out, but aunt didn't want them back. :teeth: )
Several Big Macs in one bite
Lots of pizza slices
Marbles (our vet called him "marble boy")
Candy canes off the tree, including a candy cane ornament that apparently fooled him
Dirty Diapers
Used pads and tampons (I knew the drill, but visiting sister never seemed to remember :crazy2: Sometimes we wouldn't know until he'd go to poop, and you'd see the string)

Our almost 2-year-old yellow lab, Zoe, is vying for Riley's title. In her short time on this earth, she has eaten...
5 separate back door insulation strips
3 pairs of DH's shoes (left only)
2 pairs of my shoes (always the brand new ones)
numerous stuffed animals, found gutted around the house
a fleece blanket
hot roller cord
2 shower curtains
dirty diapers...or better yet, fresh poop from DS as he's being potty trained :crazy2:
lots of plastic toys
toilet paper and empty rolls
towels
pillows
baskets
raw hamburger meat off the counter
tube of Preparation H
DH's glasses

OMG this thread is so funny. I swear I thought only my dog that ate anything and everything. What is it about goldens and eating things that are not good for you.

Shelby has eaten
so many bags of garbage and we swear she can open cabinets
a 12 inch lift up string from a turkey - had to watch for that one
So many of DD toys
tons of Play doh
millions of crayons... can you say multicoloured poop
rocks
an ant trap ... well it was our fault since there is peanut butter in those things that is like a little sandwich for dogs
So many shoes.... just an excuse to buy new ones

My ultimate dog eating story happened a few Christmases ago when I had 2 goldens, on Chrismtas eve day I had just finished a 4 layer chocolate cake and put it on the counter for our dinner that night. I ran downstairs to get the cake plate which took no more than 10 seconds and when I returned there was only a few crumbs left on the counter and NO SIGN OF THE CAKE. I was so upset, bawling because i had to make the cake all over again. Dogs were fine.

I forgot about the cute little mixed breed I had a few years back. I Had to have her stomach pumped 12X. She insisted on eating stones. Our backyard was gravel and she ate the whole thing. No matter how many trips to the vet, she ate them.

The only problem, she filled her anal canal so much, nothing else could pass through. Sadly, the vet had to put her down. Eating the wrong stuff, is not always funny. :sad2:

Our black lab, Ruby, at a corn cob once. That's how I learned what a dewadinum (sp?) is. That's a harsh $2800 lesson. BTW it's the hole leaving your stomach ewwwww and that's where it got stuck double ewwww

Our new boxer, Ginger one time ate one of those little balls that come out of a gumball machine. Those bouncy things the kids get. She threw it back up thank goodness but we never even realized that she did it. Caught her not too long after with a golfball in her mouth. She probably tried to do the same thing but it wasn't rubber and that was the good news. Didn't go down quite as easy!
