What unusual items do we need? Any tips?

We are going at the end of September with our two DDs and my Mum & Stepdad. DD1 will be 3.5 yrs and DD2 almost 5 mths.

So, I was wondering what sort of items do we need that we wouldn't think of? Eg I read here that it's a good idea to take a bike lock for your pushchair etc!

Anyone any tips for packing/things we'll need.

Is your dd1 still using a pushchair? I would definately take a lightweight buggy for her as there's a lot of walking for lo's!
We went when our 2 were 3 and 5 and they had to share one buggy as they both got really tired from all the walking and excitement!
We also took dressing up dresses for our 2 (cheaper to buy in ASDA than DLP!) and it was so lovely to see all the little girls in their princess outfits.

We went when our youngest was 15 months old, and I took a small bottle of Anti-Bacterial gel. And you can also get them in wipes, so really handy if you want to wipe over a table before use.

Thanks for that. I always carry milton wipes or hand gel (just in case there is no soap in toilets for the toddler!) so that's a good one!

Re the pushchair - I'm actually taking a double maclaren - it's fairly compact so I'm sure it will be OK. She doesn't use a pushchair much at all but I do think she will get tired (although I know she won't sleep in it!). I thought it would be better with a double than two singles hired there....

We always take 4 walkie talkies- one for each of the adults. They're much cheaper than using a mobile phone and that way one person can queue for tickets to Lion King or whatever whilst another couple of adults are with the kids and another is getting snacks!! That way we can always meet up and coordinate what we do etc. It saves lots of hassle and waiting around, plus we all don't have to go as a big convoy to queue for tickets etc. It means that we are more organised and can get everything done that we want to whilst in DLP.

Make sure you take Calpol and paracetamol as you will struggle to get either of these in DLRP. Also, I would take more clothes than you think you will need as when it rains, it really rains! (even in summer) and your shoes, socks, jeans etc get soaked regularly!

Finally, take some spare pens, as we found that sometimes the characters cant grip pens too well and they get dropped and broken when signing autograph books.

Umm, got my thinking cap on.

We were lucky with the queues but I had some emergency things to keep them amused just in case - mini-books, raisins, that kind of thing.

If you have room you might want to pack some fruit as it's hard to come by in the parks.

If you have a long journey maybe a "fun pack" for your eldest - colouring, sticker books, juice carton, cereal bar, book, fave teddy etc.

What my Dad did to keep us amused in the car was buy us a Walkman (Dead cheap nowadays) and bought us loads of story tapes......... (I couldn't, and still couldn't, read in the car or on any sort of moving transport)....... It kept us quiet the whole journey.....!

I would recommend a small bottle of suncream incase the sun comes out late in the day, and tissues and wet wipes (Good in all sorts of situations!!)!

I meant to mention paracetomol. When we were there in Feb, a man was asking in one of the shops in the Village where he could buy headache tablets for his wife, and they suggested Val d'Europe. ( I gave him 2 of mine )

Slightly off subject, but if you do need to go to the chemist In Val d'Europe there is an English speaking person who works there, who was really helpful when I went there for Nausea tablets ( must pack some for next week ) And they sell nappies.

Marmite!

We travel with a small jar of 'combat marmite' - invaluable. If, of course, you like marmite.

Take it to breakfast and feel smug as other English people look longingly at your marmite toastie fingers.

I would definitely say calpol, milton anti bac wipes for use on tables, high chairs, etc, a wide neck thermos flask you could carry fruit or little snacks in, a plastic cereal container and milton tables if you want to sterilise any bottles juice cups ... with the new milton you don't need to rinse them. I bought some wrist bands from mothercare and put them on our pram and they act like a insect repellant but that depends on the time of year. Nappy bags. Baby wipes for sticky bums and fingers ! Anti bac handgel. Disposable/throw away bibs ... ideal and take up less room. I'll think some more, our daughter was 1 on her first trip and I took allsorts of little nick nacks x

I thought we were the only family who traveled with marmite! The new squeezy jars are fab for travelling with. I think we will adopt the phrase combat marmite!

PJackson - if you are taking a double buggy and planning on taking the park shuttle bus from your hotel, I would suggest you take a sling for the baby too and have the buggy folded up when you try to get on the shuttle. Getting through the shuttle scrum with a double pushchair would not be fun!

Also, as I know my kids can trip over nothing (!!), I also had/have a small tube of Arnica cream (for bumps & bruises) and Savlon antiseptic cream (and also plasters as already mentioned). They're always in the bag and thankfully, I've never had to use them but I'm sure the day I don't have them, I'll need them!

Wow thanks for the replies - all those things are great! Some would be on my list but some not so I'll add them - thanks!

Re the bike lock - I think it's in case someone tries to do off with your pushchair - not sure it would happen but I suppose you never know and a lock really doesn't take up much room!

Re fruit - I'm definately going to take some. We are flying but will have hold baggage so plan to put it in there in plastic tubs so that it doesn't get too bruised etc.

We'll have a microwave so I'll use micro steriliser bags - they are great!

Anyone know roughly what the weather will be like? I don't suppose it's going to be sunny on 28th Sept onwards?? I'm going to get DD1 some waterproof trouser things and a waterproof jacket just in case. We'll just take spare trousers (which we'll leave in the car at the car park) and waterproof jackets which we'll put in the pushchair.

We won't be needing the shuttle as will have a car but thanks for the tip I hadn't thought about taking my sling but it is a good idea anyway

ive never seen any pushchairs locked up???? and sometimes the attendants move them about to rotate the space to make it easier to get your buggy out as people collect/ leave more.

iv been to dlpr 5 times and disneyworld 4 times and still not seen one locked up or had any problems, and im a terrible one for leaving stuff on the pushchair.

Unless you have an incredibly expensive buggy you won't need a lock. We never saw anyone lock up their buggy.

If you are a bit paranoid (I was before we got there!) then I read on here about popping an unused nappy in a sack and tying it to the handlebars. No-one would want to steal a buggy with what looks like a dirty nappy on it!

first time we went we took a lock for the buggy because we had heard a few scare stories about buggies going missing, however in hind sight I dont think I'd bother now and it was a bit difficult to find somewhere to chain it each time and although we weren't the only ones doing it we were in the minority.

The last time we went in 2006 my DS 4 had just come out of hospital and although he wouldn't normally be in a buggy we did hire one there and we had no problems with it getting moved or going missing, however if you are worried just leave something on it that doesn't matter if it does get taken i.e a bright coloured scarf or some ribbon or a nappy

One thing I found, was alot of the things I had got really worried about before we went were really unimportant when we got there anyway.

we never locked our buggy up and didnt see anyone lock theirs up and ours was a semi expensive pram.
