what type of water for formula?

I have one of the 2.5 gallon jugs of spring h20 on my counter, so it stays room temp. I fill bottles from there. When we're on the go, I have bottles of spring h20 in the bag. h20 in my town isn't too good and we had ecoli in our water when my son was about 5 months, so I'm glad I don't use town h20.

I would NEVER use tap water... EVER.....

Nobody wants to talk about the huge pink elephant in the room... but, authorities have now issued statements that infants should not be given fluoridated water... (but, somehow, even that determination did not solve the problem of fluoride and other toxins added to the water in our public water systems...)

I wouldn't want my infant to be ingesting Chlorine, Aluminum, and many other very toxic substances that are added to our water. I do not drink or cook with tap water....

The 'germs' and sterilization are not an issue...
It is the toxins.

We buy large jugs of Spring Water, and this is what I have always used.

I was a little afraid of that pink elephant actually.

Anywho, I agree about the chemicals/toxins. You can SMELL the chlorine in our water-- it smells like a swimming pool coming out of our tap. YUCK!!

We use filtered tap water from our fridge, we have well water so no extra fluoride. We don't heat it up now that she's older unless it's really cold depending on the temp outside. I did warm the water when I switched from BF to formula.

I buy Nursery Water... & I keep regular bottled water in the car just in case I forget to bring enough with me.

Kroger has a Kroger brand that goes on sale for .88c/gallon every once in awhile. I buy a ton when it does- Nursery Water is ridiculous, almost $1.60/gallon here.

There was a mess about water here awhile back (certain areas got contaminated and people had to be tested for this chemical, etc.). We don't live in the affected area but the staff at the hospital suggested if we're not 100% confident with our water that we buy Nursery Water. So we do.

DS gets bottle at room temp. only... I've never warmed them for him. Makes life a lot easier!!

Bottled water. Another poster said they heated in the microwave. BAD idea. It can create hot spots and it kills the nutrients. As with all advice do your research before believing anyone(me included) on a message board.

Yeah, well, when our kids were babies there was no such thing as the internet to scare parents about every little thing and it was the "right" way then to warm up formula. None of our kids died from malnutrition so I guess it didn't kill too many of the nutrients. Oh, and the hot spots, you just shake the bottle to mix and they are just fine.

With my first I used bottled water because the tap water wasn't good. I warmed it up in the microwave or with a bottle warmer.

By the time I had my second, we lived in an area with very good tap water. The pediatrician told me that it should be given to the baby at room temperature, so I would fill up the bottles with water for the day. Then I would add the formula right before feeding, and just shake the bottle.

The only issue I ever had with formula was using the kind with extra iron. My youngest had colic and someone told me that it might be the iron in the formula. So I switched to the regular formula and it did the trick. I don't know if it was just timing or if it was really switching formulas that helped.

I guess I'm the only lazy one who bought the CANS of formula that you just shake and pour. :) About the only cleaning required was the making sure the lid of the can and the punch opener were clean.

Yeah, it was more expensive than the powdered formula, but SOOO much easier and quicker.

My kids were mostly breastfed (because I am too lazy to deal with formula and sterilizing) but they did get a decent number of bottles. I just used tap water. Our city water is very good and I never had any qualms about using it. I made up the formula in a large pitcher and let it sit overnight. Then I could just pour a bottle when I needed it. My kids drank their milk cold out of the fridge too. Cuz, I'm lazy  Don't worry, they didn't grow up to be morons.

I was right there with you, lift shirt-attach baby was much easier then, go downstairs, get the bottles out of the cupboard, mix the dang formula, go back upstairs, feed baby, go back downstairs, rinse bottle, go back upstairs and try to get back to sleep before the next feeding :lmao:.

I BF (mainly) my boys, but when they got formula bottles (date night :goodvibes), I used tap water, and not at a warm temp...maybe room temp to barely warm. That way they were always okay with whatever the bottle temp was. Don't ever use HOT water from the tap...you can get yucky stuff from the water heater that way. Use cold or slightly warm water, and warm it in hot water. That was my ped's advice...

My daughter uses a Brita Water Filter pitcher...pours in enough tap water to get through a day and leaves it on the counter. Avery gets her bottles at room temperature.

I used tap water, Dr said it was fine. Also, I thought they said never to microwave breast milk due to killing the nutrients. We also used the microwave sometime, mostly during the winter. I live in Florida and who in the heck wants to drink warm milk when it is hot, talk about vommit inducing. Anyway, like you said, all you have to do is shake it up. Oh yeah, my kiddos are the picture of health.

We have pretty nasty tap water here too, so if I don't breastfeed, we'll just use the bottled water that we drink for Aline's formula. If we go somewhere with good water (like my dad's house, well water.. yum) then she'll just get tap water.

Please dont use well water for bottles.. I forget why but its a big no no

I grew up on well water, from infancy, and never had an issue. I'll ask my doc next time I go in, but they told me they prefer me to drink that over city water and even over bottled water while pregnant.

We used well water with our dr's blessing. Basically said if it was safe for us to drink then it was safe for the baby to drink.
