Just sold a 2000 sq ft ranch with a full, finished basement. Total sq ft 3800. We are currently in a small, two bedroom apartment. The new house is a 1700 sq ft ranch which will be finished some time in July. It has a full basement, but we will not be finishing it. We are only planning on living here for 7 years, then Stephen retires and we move somewhere warm.

The new house has the kitchen and eating area in the front, facing north. Really bright. Great room in back with a deck. I really like the floor plan. We have great views of the mountains. It's not inside the city limits, but it is in a subdivision. It'll be quieter and more peaceful than where we lived the past 10 years.

Oh...I just recently bought a 2 bedroom townhouse with a loft. The official records books say Colonial. I guess the outside could be considered Colonial with the bricks on the front and a column on the edge of the "porch" just perfect for the flag. But the inside isn't Colonial in my book. It's reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally nice. Light and bright. Not how I envision a Colonial. But Colonials are nice too!

yes, I know. We're in the midwest and housing is much more affordable than the Eastern Coast. My older sister moved from Indiana out to Newport News and really felt the bite.

We're in a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, formal livingroom, formal diningroom & huge familyroom with basement home, 2.5 car attached garage in Detroit suburbs ~ aprox 2400 sq ft. It's a colonial (bedrooms upstairs) with lots of windows, lots of natural light. We have the modern white kitchen cabinets (which I'll never do again since they are usually speckled with whatever I'm making for dinner )& we had it built in 1996. Time to move on.....I want either a split level (master bedroom on 1st level & the rest upstairs) or a large ranch.

For the next 10 days we are in a four level townhouse with three bedrooms, four bathrooms and a garage. Then we are "homeless" until we find a new home at our next assignment.

My house here in Puerto Rico is a 3 bedroom ranch. My house in Wisconsin is a 5 bedroom Victorian that was built in the late 1800s. We totally remodeled it and I love it.

Bought a 3 level, 3 bedroom, 1 car garage townhouse in September and whined the whole time that I couldn't believe I was paying over $350k for a townhouse... now several on my street have sold for over $400k... DC area is crazy

We live in a 5 bedroom 2 bath ranch style home with a finished basement. Our laundry is in the basement we will probably move on in a few years, but big enough for us right now!
Like our backyard though--there is an open field back there, but we still live in the city! Only in Nebraska!!!

My living quarters are much nicer now since I've fixed them up. I rent part of an old house. I went to the hardware store and learned how to fix stuff up, I've never done anything like that before. Now I love the place, and I'm so proud of it! I think that older houses have larger rooms, higher ceilings, and more character than newer ones.

In NJ we have a three BR, three bath townhouse--LR, DR, EIK, FR, one car garage. Bought it in 1996 for $120k, now worth almost three times that! Literally thinking about selling it and renting until the "bubble" bursts, then lookin for a bargain.

Also have the FL house, four BR, three bath, LR, DR, FR, EIK, 3 car garage.

I agree 100% with jrydberg, the housing market it CRAZY! We bought the FL house at just the right time--the prices have gotten out fo control! Not sure we would have bought it at todays' prices. The house being built next door is going to cost over $850K!

2200 sq. ft. colonial. 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. No basement, something about water tables can't have a basement. I don't get it, but that's not new. Detached garage that we had built about 6 years ago. Would like to attach it by adding on to the house and would also like to add on a big family room someday to make up for not having a basement.
