What topics really bore you?

Religion, politics, television (anything involving a screen, really), sports, family (except pets, please tell me all about your pets!).
For those of you who said "sports" you should know what happens when you're a guy and you tell people (especially other guys) you don't like sports. It's like they can't think of anything else to talk about.
Totally with you on that.

"Hey, did you catch the game?"
"Nah, I have a life. I don't care what ridiculously overpaid meatheads do on or off the Idiotball field, nor do I understand why anyone ever would care. Did you go to the symphony on Friday? Oh, there's a fascinating exhibit at the museum right now, have you seen it? Go to the Farmer's Market on Saturday? Go hiking? Go to yoga class? Take your bikes out for a 10 mile ride? Have you seen the musical/play that's currently at the theatre? Did you go on a road trip and see one of the hundreds of interesting things within two hours of your home?"
"I just sat on the couch watching TV all weekend."
"#Sad."

Sports, unless it relates to my kids' teams (I wouldn't tell other people about my kids' sports, I just mean I'm interested to hear about their own games or teams)

Video games or long descriptions of YouTube videos rather than just showing me the video.

Many times at family get-togethers, certain people will ask about a dish we are eating, and a long discussion of the recipe will ensue. I find it not only tedious to listen to (why don't you just give them the recipe later!) but sometimes unappetizing. If they are talking about the raw meat and what they've done to it, I suddenly no longer want to eat the cooked version

I guess my issue is not with one particular topic, but rather that hours and hours are spent talking about an issue and it is really just a few talking points being repeated over and over and over..... I love to hear all sides of issues, and hearing topics discussed intelligently, but everyone seems to just be repeating things they have heard elsewhere, and without really even knowing or bothering to find out if what they are repeating is even factual. You can spend a lot of time listening and not learn anything new.

Well hello Cubbie, I'd always heard there was one other guy on the planet that wasn't interested in sports, never imagined I'd bump into you here:wave:
If I'm being honest I don't do those things you mentioned but the interests I have I'm very passionate about (Disney being one of the topics.) :earsboy:

Howdy, Micca!

You may not have the same interests as I do, but I'm am thrilled that you have interests that you can be passionate about that don't involve sportsing! Rock on!

Just because someone catches a game of some type on TV (or in person) doesn't mean they don't have interest in the other things on your list.

Religion and politics- you're not gonna change my mind, I'm not gonna change yours. Let's agree to disagree and not argue about it.

Stories where I don't know the people you're talking about, and you know I don't know them or their health issues/marital woes, etc, but you plow ahead with your story because you think it relates to me in some way. Not interested. Can't fake being interested, sorry.

People who constantly tell stories about things that happened 20+ years ago.

Uh oh. Sounds like me.

Sometimes I just start laughing and DW asks what's so funny. "This one day back in 1974 my father........." She just rolls her eyes.

I'm sure you're aware what those other guys are thinking.

Honestly, it’s kind of sad that you can’t appreciate sports as just another human performance, no different than the symphony or a play. And the ability of an athlete to perform at an elite level is no less rare than it is for elite musicians and actors. Obviously, everyone has different tastes and if you don’t enjoy watching sports, that’s cool. But, to claim those who enjoy theatre have a life while those who prefer sports do not is pretty narrow-minded, IMO.

For the record, outside of the yoga class, I’ve done everything on your list at least twice in the past year (some, many times over). But, I’ve also attended many professional and amateur sporting and motor sports events in that same timeframe, and even (gasp) watched a few on TV. :)

I feel horrible about it, but I really get bored when people talk about their grandchildren excessively. I know some people who just never stop...and they accompany their stories with pictures AND videos on their phone.

I'll add children to that as well. Nobody but the parents and grandparents think their own are the cutest, beautifulest, smartest, funniest, talented or most athletic. Try to keep that topic to a dull roar when conversing with others or posting on Facebook.
