Would it be innapropriate to wear a character tee and shorts at any of these:

CRT
BD
Narcoosees
MBBQ
HDD
I'm not asking about the "dress code", just want to know what most people wear to each, so we can feel comfortable being there.
Thanks!

I do not think it's innapropriate to wear a character t-shirt to a signature. I've seen people very dress up and I've seen casual park attire (including charactere t's). You're on vacation! Enjoy! :thumbsup2

Personally I would feel uncomfortable in shorts in Narcoose definately as this does have a signiture dress code and most places with this I have been to people where slacks and tshirts but I think its personal preference.

HDD, CRT, MBBQ & BD are all definately places where shorts wont feel out of place because they are either in Parks or are more child orientated anyway so I would say the only one I would personally feel weird in in shorts is Narcoose

I would not wear a character shirt to a signature restaurant.

Wear whatever you want. Everyone else does. The only rules left, as far as I can see, are:

(1) everyone must have a shirt of some kind on,
(2) everyone must have some type of footwear on -- sandal, flipflop, something,
(3) no tank tops on men.

Beyond that, anything goes at the signature restaurants.

As per wdinfo.com, this is the dress code for Disney Signature restaurants:

Men - Dress pants, jeans or dress shorts and a T-shirt or long sleeve shirt with collar is required. (Jackets optional.)

Women - Jeans, skirts or dress shorts and blouse, sweater or dress is required.

NOT PERMITTED: Tank tops, swim suits or swim cover ups, hats for gentlemen, cut offs or clothing with rips/tears are not allowed. T-shirts with offensive language/graphics will also not be permitted.

My feeling is that you are on vacation. If it isn't prohibited and you want to wear it, wear it!

Exactly!! Almost anything except what is specifically prohibited is fine. Shorts of all types are common in signature restaurants. Less so T-shirts, but you do see them there. Mrs U will sometimes wear a Disney T to dinner.

1) Unfortunately, this is true.
2) So much for the "business casual" rule.
3) You pay big bucks for food/atmosphere, and get people dressed like rag-bags.
4) And, it got worse with DDP, since people don't know how to dress for diner.
5) They are more concerned about pigging-out than the atmosphere and food quality.
6) Sure ruins the value of the meal.

I would not wear a character T to Narcoosee's or other signature restaurants. Sure, others do and I agree it ruins the atmosphere.
We freshen up and change before going to a signature. DH either wears chinos and a dress polo shirt, or dress shorts and a dress shirt. I wear a skirt and blouse or dress short outfit.
You will find some of everything, so it is ultimately up to you.

I was on the DxDDP this past May and chose to eat at a signature restaurant every night I was there. I went back to the resort every afternoon to rest, bathe, and change clothes before my dinner. I had packed several pairs of nice capris, nice blouses, and a couple of dresses, just to wear for those dinners. The only night I felt out of place was at Narcoosee. I wore a nice pair of linen capris and a short sleeve, silky pleated blouse with a pair of flat sequined sandals. I thought I was dressed OK, but for some reason it seemed every woman at Narcoosee that night was dressed in heels, dresses, and nice pantsuits. I didn't see a single pair of capris that night and definitely no shorts. Again it may have just been the night I was there, but I definitely felt underdressed in my capris that night. I'm going back in Sept and will be taking a dress this time.

At Artist Point, Flying Fish, Yatchsman, Jiko, California Grill, and Citricos I saw people in everything from shorts to capris, to dresses. Just about anything probably would have fit in.

Last year when we went to HDDR and Brown Derby we saw alot of people in park attire. My GD wore shorts and a Princess t shirt at CRT a few years ago, as did several other little girls. In fact other than the little girls dressed in their Princess dresses, nobody was particularly dressed up.

I have been to restaurants before where I have seen inappropriate attire. Men wearing hats, beachwear, etc. To be sure, finer restaurants typically do not post dress codes, and many times, people do not possess the good sense to dress properly. In such cases, criticism may very well be directed at those offending individuals.

That being said, Disney does publish a dress code. People attending the restaurants are many times coming directly from hot, humid parks with their families. It is unrealistic to expect that people are going to dress more formally than the dress code requires, especially under these circumstances.

If you want to wear long pants and a dinner jacket to a Signature Resataurant, don't let anyone stop you. However, it is unfair to treat those who value comfort while conforming to the dress with such contempt.

If the "rag-bags" to which you refer are not adhearing to the dress code, I'm with you. But if they are, you are way off base!

I wouldn't wear shorts unless they were a dressie pair. I would wear capri's or a sundress or skirt with a Character shirt. In my opinion.

Okay I agree with some that at Narcoosees you'll probably see people more dressed up but at CRT, BD, MBBQ, and HDD you will see mostly shorts and shirts including tshirts. CRT and BD are in parks and most people are coming from being at the park all day. MBBQ and HDD are more relaxed and I didn't even think they fall under the signature dress code.

I'm of the opinion that dress codes are supposed to be followed...just how I was raised and I see the idea behind it. I'd personally feel uncomfortable not following the policies as outlined by the various establishments.

The Signature Dining experiences are just that...experiences. It's more than just a meal and the behavior and appearance of the other patrons contribute as much to the total dining experience as does that of the restaurant staff.

Out of the signature places we've only dined at Cali Grill. I went with khaki pants and a polo shirt (tucked in, which is somewhat unusal for me)...aka, business casual. I'm forgetting what Katy wore, but I'm guessing it was a skirt and a nicer top.

At CRT, I was wearing cargo shorts and an untucked long-sleeve button up, sleeves rolled up as is usual for me. I'd have just been in park clothes but I wanted to clean up a bit since I was proposing that night. :)

I agree. Been to Narccossee several times and would never let DH wear a tee shirt. It's a collar shirt. Either button up short-sleeve (often disney pattern) shirt, or a collar "izod" type shirt. I do let him wear dress shorts with a belt (docker type). I normally would wear capris, sandals and nice top. In the last 3 visits there we have often felt a little too casual as many of the woman wear dresses. No hats whatsoever, as the CM will ask you to remove it before seating you....I have no problem with the dress code.

I, personally, would not wear a character t-shirt to a signature restaurant. Nor would I wear shorts to one.

1) All "signature" restaurants are listed as Business Casual, not park wear.
2) Guests shouldn't go from parks all sweaty & dirty to a signature restaurant.
3) Signature restaurants are more "dressy" than park eateries.
4) These codes are posted.
5) It is also quoted to the guest when they make a ressie.
6) Or, it supposed to be told to the guest by the ADR person.
7) It is even in the remarks section of the dining software to tell the guest.

Business Casual Dress Code (excerpted from Disney)

  • Dress pants
  • Jean pants
  • Collared shirts
  • Blouses
