What to wear to Chef Mickey's?

This will be our first trip to WDW and we are going to dinner at Chef Mickey's. My question is: what do the children wear? I'm sure there is a little bit of everything, but in general, do children tend to wear costumes or Disney t-shirts or . . . ?

The question is for DS5 who does not know about the trip so I can't ask him, but I know he'll want to do what all the other children are tending to do.

I know this is a silly question. Thanks!

Chef Mickey's is very casual. I have not seen kids in costume but that certainly does not mean they don't do it. I would have your DS wear a cute Disney T-shirt and I am sure he will feel like he "fits right in." Have a wonderful trip :)

We are having breakfast there too. My 2 year old is wearing a pair of custom painted shortalls with the fab 5 on them. And my 5 year old is wearing a pair of denim shorts and a cute tee shirt with Mickey and Pluto on the front. It's very causual, but very cute!

The two times we have been I have not seen anyone dressed in costume but I think it would be fine if the child really wanted to.

I am sure if the child wore a Donald Duck shirt he might get some extra attention since Donald is convinced he is #1.

He ripped the Mickey ears off DS5 and kept pointing to himself and he then grabbed his autograph book and wrote Donald Duck is #1.

While we were at chef mickey, my DS9 (at the time) told Donald that Mickey was his favorite. The three boys then gathered around Donald for the customary photo that I like to take.. three boys, "Smile!, no, really, SMILE!" Anyway. Donald SHOVED my DS9 out of the photo. Full forced shove, almost knocked him off his feet. My youngest son (4 at the time) then told Donald that he was his favorite, and he got a HUGE hug, and I got a good photo.

We were there in December and dd (6.5yo) wore her Minnie Mouse dress (costume from halloween 2006). Both Minnie and Mickey LOVED it! I wouldn't have gone out of my way to have her wear it, but it was nice to do since we already had the dress.

We did NOT have ds (2yo) wear his Donald Duck costume. He didn't like it much on halloween so I wasn't going to make him sit through a meal in it.

You know it's really a crap shoot. Six of one, a half dozen of another. We never use costumes when we are there but my DS always wants to have a Mickey :mickeyjum shirt on when we go there. I just always have them dressed very casually but nicer then if we're at the park all day. The DS will be in a polo type shirt and nicer shorts, and the DD in a casual skirt and shirt or cotton dress with sandals. I want them to look nice in the pictures with the characters, but I was also brought up by a New England conservative dresser who made me where a dress to just about any restaurant or nice family occasion :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: . I had to be in a dress and patent leather Mary Janes on a plane too so there are those who think I am somewhat warped in that sense :rotfl2: , I just never want me or my kids to look like slobs.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and experiences!
DS was a pirate for halloween, his costume is probably not too appropriate for Chef Mickey's. Perhaps a Mickey/Gang shirt would be better for him.
Thanks again everyone!
