what to tell housekeeper?

More than likely you will not get the same maid each day. Many do not speak English or read English. The only way to prevent them from possibly taking your bedding, is not to have maid service.

We have tried this before and everytime we lost our bedding. Regardless of when we even tried bright Orange sheets.

Good luck.

Congrats on Hubby coming home and going to Disney for vacation. As far as bringing your own bedding I can't help you there. But general for tipping its $1 a person per day. Back to the bedding I would call housekeeping upon arriving at your room and letting them know that you have your own bedding and see what they suggest. If you are worried about losing your bedding you might want to unmake the beds every morning, folding them and putting them away til you return to your room later. If you forego having your room cleaned by mousekeeping just put the "do-not-disturb" card in the key slot on the outside of the door (I only phrase it like this because my DD19 said there is nowhere to put this thing, She was trying on the inside of the door. My beautiful blonde daughter. hehe no offense to other blondes). Anyway with the do-not-disturb card they will leave fresh towels, shampoo, soap, and garbage bags in a bag on your door.

This will be our first time going to wdw. we will be going in may and staying at por. after reading the posts, i think we should bring our own sheets and covers, so what do i tell the house keeper each day. Also can u give me some info on who all i am supposed to tip. and if there is anymore suggestions it would be appreciated. We are a family of four and this will be our first time there. We are so excited, especially since my husband has been in afghanistan for the last year. :cool1:

I think you're worrying too much about the germ issue you have been reading on other posts. The sheets are clean and you can safely sleep on them with no worries. To strip your resort bed and put on your own sheets on every day doesn't seem like a vacation to me plus it seems over the top. If you are worried about the comforter call housekeeping and request a new one. The sheets are clean and I never had a problem with them. I hope the members who started that thread and caused the hysteria over the "Germs on Comforter issue" are happy. It makes us DIS members look like we're Howard Hughes germ freaks or something. :guilty: I had a feeling something like this would come up. Disney has clean hotels and you shouldn't spend your vacation worrying about this. :confused3

The tipping issue is a big debate here and from what I've read that it's a dollar per person, per day, so 4 dollars a day for your family. I have a feeling that some will say more and some will say less or none! This has been a hot topic in the past! Someone will post a link to some real cool looking envelopes you can print up so you will be able to leave money in them.

Congratulations on your first Disney vacation and I hope it's magical one. Also please tell your husband comming home from Afganistan that he's true patriot for serving his country and thank him for me. Your family really deserves this vaction and I'm glad you're going to WDW! Enjoy yourself! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I agree about the hotel provided sheets. Having to make your own bed every day doesn't sound like much of a vacation to me.

There have been rare cases on here with problems but most people are very satisfied with the sheets. If you want to ask for a new comforter go ahead.

I also think there is a "law" that even if you have the do not disturb sign on your room that they have to come in every several days to make sure that everything is ok.

Tipping varies but $1-2 per person every day is a good place to start. Please leave the tip every day since the maid may change

You can smell the Bleach on the towels & sheets. The beds have 2 top sheets & blakets are in between the sheets. I just pull the Spreads off & put them under the bed.

Trust me, the sheets are clean.

I think bringing and changing your own sheets is a bit extravagant. And there's a high chance you'll lose them unless you leave your privary please sign up, because there's a high amount of non-English speaking/reading housekeepers.

I'm embarrassed to admit I was a bit freaked out by the thread about the comforters too. But I'm going with the "what I didn't know didn't hurt me" theory. I've stayed at Disney before and never knew about the comforters and I'm not going to let it ruin this vacation. I am however going to pack a can of lysol just for a little peace of mind.

I have seen similiar posts on cruise and other hotel discussion boards about unclean sheets and bedspreads, etc. I really think alot of these posts are just people who get a kick out of making other people crazy!
Just so you know I am a bit of a clean freak myself,I never let anyone in the family walk barefoot in hotels or lay around on the comforters because I know they are not cleaned as diligently as the sheets. I throw the comforters down to the end of the bed at night and we donot use them as blankets. But I trust 100% that the sheets and blankets at Disney are clean

Reminds me of the time I found a fresh, clean "Holiday Inn" hotel in the CBR, hanging right there on our towel rack like it belonged there all along. It even said Holiday Inn on it! LOL

The linen, sheets and towels are washed in huge commercial washers with probably temperatures that exceed your hot water heater at home. At the risk of offending, I think it is crazy to bring your own sheets and towels. The bedspread, I can understand. Call and request a clean bed spread. It will be delivered to you laundered and clean and then you will know for sure. They certainly don't put soiled linen in the linen closet.

Okay, I always thought I was the biggest germ-o-phobe there was....and I have honestly NEVER considered taking my own sheets. If I was that worried, I would stay home in an environment I had control over.

I don't ever recall there being 2 top sheets with the blanket in between at any of the moderates or at CR. The only place I ever experienced this was at Portofino Bay in Universal. Do they do this at the deluxe resorts in wdw?

I posted on that other thread about how I once worked at a 5 star hotel and that is where I learned most hotels only wash their comforters once a month! It sounds awful I know but as a clean freak I don't worry about it! Like somebody else said, you can smell the bleach on the towels and sheets. I always say I won't let anybody touch the comforter but then when I get there I think, I am at Disney, even the germs are happy! If you have survived touching shopping carts, public restrooms and staying with family members (you don't think they actually wash all the guest bedding do you?!), you will be fine. My point was that all hotels pretty much have the same standards as far as comforters are concerned. This is probably not your first visit at a hotel and you're not dead yet. GREAT BIG THANK YOU to your husband for all he has done for the rest of us back home!! Have a really great vacation!

We never use the comforters, if you want to bring an additional blanket of your own do that. Just fold the comforters, lay them aside, use your own blanket.

Just make sure before you leave each day you fold your blanket up and put it in a drawer.

But don't you think that if you asked for the comforter to be replaced that they would bring you one that has been laundered? I can't imagine that they would bring another dirty comforter.

We're going in May as well!

Have you ever stayed at Shades of Green? We really love it... it's a great benefit for military (I'm assuming your DH is military). Mine's gone right now so will miss this trip, but they extended his RNLTD to catch our trip last year, so I can't complain!

As for the sheets, I'd really consider maybe just not using the spread, and asking for fresh sheets when you get there to change the bed yourself. Just a thought...

DawnCt1: That is a good point. I have always wondered about on these threads where they say to ask for a clean comforter at check in. Who says its clean? Maybe they have a nice reject pile of comforters people have asked to have replaced and they just recycle them! I think the idea of bringing a clean blanket is a good idea. I used to really wig out about this but now have decided after seeing my mother with cancer and dementia I would rather die at the hands of a Disney comforter germ.

The only place I have found double sheets at WDW is Concierge at all Delxue resorts and all rooms at the Grand Floridian.

I almost think it would be more trouble to stock pile dirty stuff and recycle it. It would smell like it came out of a pile of dirty laundry. ;) I have never stayed at a hotel where I couldn't seen the press lines from the folds in the sheets so I don't doubt for a minute that they are clean. It might be interesting to call housekeeping and ask if the comforters have been cleaned between guests. Maybe I will send an email to SoG just for fun.
