I'm going to my first Disney Cruise in may and I would like to know what you suggest that I should take with me. I'm new to DSLR cameras. I got my Canon EOS Rebel T2i and following lenses for my birthday last year:

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
EF-S 55-250MM F/4-5.6 IS
58mm 0.45x WIDE Angle

I really don't want to carry all of the lenses with me....so whats the best option?

Thanks!

From experience being an amatuer photographer for many years from 35mm to digital. Every time I don't bring a lens because I "rarely use that lens" wouldn't you know it I need it! I would rather carry all my lenses than miss a shot that can never be captured. Invest in a good camera backpack that you can easily carry your equipement and frees up your hands.
Good luck. Would love to see some pics!

My last cruise I brought most of my regular kit, except my 28mm.
which included
12-24mm which was on 65% of the time
18-250mm 15%
50 f1.4 used 10%
135mm on just for fun 5%
200mm just for fun less than 5%

I found that I only used the zooms when I was either trying to pinpoint what ships were of in the distance from ours, or when I was trying look through the windows of neighboring ships (j/k)

Why not bring both your lenses and leave the other in your safe? The kits arent that heavy and you dont know when you may wanna play!

But if you are just to bring one make it the 18-55... IMHO

Thanks guys for your input. I thought I will get away with less, but you both made a good point. I think I will need to go and find me a good backpack or something :)

Another vote for bringing everything. When I am on board I typically just carry my camera with no bag unless I am on some allotted picture taking time.

When I go ashore I tend to take a bag, as long as we aren't going to the beach.

Another vote for taking everything. I only had a 18-135mm with me, and that was plenty enough. You'll probably use the 18-55 the most. And the zoom might come in handy depending on what excursions you take; or like someone else mentioned, to zoom in on ships in the distance.

But Have Fun!!! You'll LOVE it. :thumbsup2

Thanks guys....I think I found a carry bag I like...so everything is going with me :)

Take all of the lenses with you on the cruise, but you don't have to carry them all on your person all of the time. Just walk around with the 18-55 on the body and keep an eye out for things you might want to photograph later with the other lenses. Later, when you have a free moment, go out on the ship with the other lenses and capture those other shots you missed.

I have a few bags. I'll use one to transport a bunch of gear with me to my destination, then once I'm there I'll transfer some gear to a smaller bag that I'll actually carry around with me for my next jaunt.

I just love DIS boards...every time I get tons of helpful ideas :) Thanks!

Another vote for taking everything.Hey now you an excuse to buy more camera equipment.I take everything now in a Pelican 1510 case then when I get to were I'm going I use a small bag or no bag depends on what I'm going to shoot.Have fun and take way to many pictures.Don't forget extra cards,it's against Disney rules to delete pictures from the card when you are on the cruise :rotfl2:

LOL...more equipment will need to wait....I spent money on the cruise :)

I would say take everything but the 58mm 0.45x WIDE Angle. For it, I suggest taking it to the nearest trash can and drop it in. I really do not mean any offense to you for having it, but it is next to worthless for a DSLR. They were made for old (i.e. pre digital) camcorders and are not a high enough quality to get any decent shots on a DSLR. If they were, then everyone would have one as they are extremely cheap and readily available, yet nobody ever talks about using them or post pics from them. I am only telling you this so that you can have a reasonable expectation of its capabilities.

I'm not offended ukcatfan. I'm beginner and I got what I have as a gift. I didn't use this lens yet at all, except the original camera comes with.
