What to put on luggage that won't fall off

I need your suggestions. Do you know of any material with a sticky back that can be put on cloth covered luggage and won't fall off?

I have put various kinds of Avery labels on my suitcase but eventually they peel off. I also painted Mickey and Goofy on my luggage using Disney paints and stencils but these wear off after a time too.

I don't want to put ribbon or such on the luggage. I actually want to put character faces or artwork onto the luggage.

Anyone know of something that will stick and will allow me to put Mickey's face or ?? on my luggage (not smooth but fabric like).

Try Fabric Paint-art supply stores have special paint for cloth.

I don't know about characters, but I usually get some brightly colored plastic (electrical) tape, and put it on the plastic wheel frames, and a small loop around the handle. It stays on for a few years, then has to be replaced.

Depending on how dark the cloth is, you could always use Sharpie markers. They're permanent, don't really fade and the fine point is great for details. They come in all sorts of pretty colors now, too. I am the Sharpie queen. These things are great! I give them my highly coveted (not really) stamp of approval

If the fabric is dark, they have metallic sharpies too. I have a silver one and it writes really cool and black and dark items!

I always tie a vintage scarf on my bags to make them stand out. I would think you could buy embroidered patches and perhaps attach them with industrial strength glue, or even stitch them on if you're strong and the suitcase fabric is thin enough.

The best thing I ever saw on someone's bag was a strip of duct tape (yep, gray duct tape) down both sides of the bag. That person then had taken a Sharpie or some other permanent maker and wrote on the tape these words:

"This is not your bag!"

Still cracks me up.

I went in the Disney Store last week and bought a cute new Mickey-face change purse. It looked like a luggage tag to me, so I cut the wrist loop and sewed it together again around the handle of my suitcase. Very cute.

My mom sewed small handle covers for all of our suitcases. Basically, they are just squares of quilted fabric that wrap around the suit case handle and close with velcro (although you could sew them on permanently).

Being from Hawaii, our covers are "aloha" print fabric. But you could use Disney print fabric too.

we have black rollaboards (like everyone else!) so i bought a roll of fluorescent yellow duct tape (at a local art supply store) & cut out 2" circles & stuck them all over the luggage - from a distance, it looks like a large domino! we also use yellow unlockable luggage straps and yellow handle straps that we bought from magellan's (the luggage company) & wrote our name on them - a little "bright", but no one mistakes their luggage for ours anymore at the luggage carousel!

Made me think of one of the people I went to Spain with. She used the ribbon technique, except she had about 800 of them hanging off of her luggage. It looked like she stuck a huge multicolored pom-pom on it but there was no mistaking it was her bag

Since it's fabric, how about iron on transfers. You can make whatever design you want on paper, then scan it and copy onto the transfer.

Careful w/ iron-on transfers; luggage fabric is usually vinyl-backed, and that much heat could cause it to blister, ruining the waterproofing.

Just FYI, fabric paints will last much longer if you top coat them with a matte topcoat fixative; you can get it at art supply stores, or even in the fabric-paint section of a craft store. Be sure to get the matte, though; the glossy would look odd on suitcase fabric.

My DH is with the railroad and has key rings that look like the railroad advanced warning signs. You know, round, bright yellow, an X in the middle with an R on each side. I took these and attached them with cable ties. I put as many on each suitcase that I could attach. It was very easy to spot our bags at the airport and trust me, no one could mistakingly grab it as theirs! You could spot them from across the baggage claim area! They stayed on too!

We buy colored duct tape you can get at any Walmart, Target or home supply store.

We have bright orange duct tape wrapped around the handles and it work's great at identifying our luggage alot quicker.

Got this tip on the cruise boards a few years ago and was able to pick out our bags from among thousands right away.

For this trip, I am going to see if I can find lime green duct tape!

I put ponytail holders on our bags. Here is a pic of the ones I used... Ponytail Holder

I just attached them to the zippers the same way you attach a luggage tag. It will definately not come off and they are very noticable.

I would use fabric paint and then spray it with clear coat fabric paint spray.........that should do the trick!

Personally, We use remnant fabric and tie it on our handles.....the boys have "scary skeleton" halloween fabric and the girls and I have "Santa Bunny" christmas fabric.
I use the same fabric remnants to tie onto the stroller handles too.

another vote for duct tape, but I don't put it on the handles, I put several pieces of duct tape on each side of the bag. You should also think about taking the roll with you, it might be able to repair that suddenly damaged tennis shoe, long enough to make it back to where you are staying so you can change into the extra pair of shoes you brought.

You did bring more than one pair of shoes didn't you?

We've used colored (orange) electrical tape for years with no problems - though duck tape sounds great too. I wrap each of the zipper pulls and add a couple of strips on the bottom plastic - by the wheels. I also used pieces off my luggage for emergency fixes. Haven't seen florescent green yet - but would love to have it!
