Hi! Our DS18 and 4 friends are headed to WDW July 5th for a graduation trip. Im getting their packing list together (to suggest) for a backpack for the parks. So far I have:
1. rain poncho
2. disposable masks
3. neck cooling towel (is there on brand better then another?)
5. neck fan (maybe?)
6. sunscreen
7. water bottle
8. snacks
9. spare socks
10. band aids
11. hand wipes

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Sanitizer (the kind that is offered in the parks is an....experience...)
Any OTC meds ( don't spend park prices for those items)
Gum/mints (to help with upset stomach, if that is something needed)

I will add to the above mentioned items:

A small first aid kit
Body Glide or other anti-chaffing balm
Sunglasses
Lip balm
Cash

For the women of the group, perhaps a hat or extra hair tie/bobby pins if needed. In the July humidity and potential rain, my hair is a disaster 24/7 and gets even worse the longer I'm outside. Sometimes I have to re-adjust it on the fly.

Realistically, is an 18 year old going to pack and bring a backpack into the parks every day when going with friends?

We are going in June with our 5 young adults. I see them bringing maybe a couple of items in their pockets (phone/entrance card/granola bar of some sort/ $ or CC) and a disposable bottle of water.

Mine will want to avoid bag check at all costs, especially if they are the one to slow the whole group down.

We too avoid bag check. DH wears cargo shorts and we all have pockets. We each bring a cell phone. DH carries a small size spray sunscreen. We each wear sunglasses. DH and I bring our ID, DVC card and all 4 APs. That's it for us.

I agree with this. When I go with my son, his cargo shorts easily hold two disposable rain ponchos if needed (women's shorts won't even hold one). We tend to go bagless but now it really is pretty easy to carry a bag if you really want to since everyone goes through the scanners. If any kind of band aids or pain meds are needed, they can get them from first aid for free. I was there last week, one day I wore a fanny pack that had a water bottle carrier on it because it had moonsooned the day before and I knew if it did that again, a disposable poncho wasn't going to cut it but the rest of the time I went bagless. I have skorts with pretty deep zip pockets. I had my phone in one, a lipstick charger in the other. I did have back pockets as well. I put a couple of disposable masks and a couple of individual packs of disposable disinfectant wipes in a snack size zip lock bag and put that in my back pocket. I carried a disposable water bottle in my hand and refilled it from water fountains. I would just tuck it under my arm if I needed two hands for anything. I had a cap on my head, my reading glasses on a necklace and I would put my sunglasses on it as well if I needed to take them off for a ride and just tuck the entire thing under my shirt. I always wear sandals of some sort so when it did rain (moonsoon day my first day) it didn't matter if my feet got wet so no need for a change or socks. I have a small wallet type thing on the back of my phone that holds a cc, my ID, my room key and some cash. Mens cargo pockets would easily hold what I had on me with room to spare. I used the hand sanitizer stationed all around the parks before and after I got off a ride so found no reason to carry my own and didn't even open any of the individual wipes I had or use any of the extra masks I had the entire trip. Of course, before I ate, I would go to the bathroom and wash my hands because using all the hand sanitizer did make them feel kind of sticky.

I was going to say the same thing. We're talking young adults here, not stocking a backpack for toddlers with baby wipes and a change of clothes. Plus, men tend to wear cargo shorts with nice deep pockets that hold a LOT of stuff. All they really need are their phones, a phone charger, credit/debit card and a small sunscreen.

we have one backpack for our family of 3. Sunscreen, frozen water bottle, disposable poncho, phones and charger, few snacks that won’t melt (like granola or nuts), some Advil, hand sanitizer, extra masks. We wear our sunglasses and baseball caps.

Oh and near July 4...pack your patience. We will be there too

Ziploc bags and paper towels

Oh possibly deodorant! That has come in handy to pack a travel size one.

I'll add my voice to the "I was going to say that" group!

I can't wrap my head around taking a big bag full of stuff into the parks, and I'm a 48 year old woman*!

*no I'm not talking about stuff you have to have with you

I have to agree with this. I went to the parks with friends as a college aged young adult (went to school at UF, had a friend who worked at Downtown Disney). At that time, I carried a small cross body purse with ID/cards/money, cell phone, keys, 1 emergency poncho, epipen (not a concern for most people and the main reason I cannot go bagless to this day), and hand sanitizer hanging from the bag and that's about it. This was 15+ years before smart phones, so to adjust for today's times, I might add a battery pack. Most of the rest is overkill for a young adult in my opinion.

I was this teen. I would go to Cedar point every summer with friends growing up. They all knew I had anything you needed. Nail clippers and yes this came in handy once), band aids, advil, other over the counter meds. I also always carry a sweatshirt or jacket in the backpack because I always get cold.

Neck fan 100000%. Back up charger & cord for neck fan too. I'll never go to Disney without it now! A cord to charge a cell phone and a little bag (to hold things that can't get wet) is what I'd add to your list. I'd skip the last 3 (Disney will give you bandaids for free if you need them) and the neck towel. An extra mask is always a good idea because when they get wet they suck. If they still have the FuelRods (they had them in October) just have your DS buy one when they get there, it's easier than bothering to carry & charge your own. Side note, every time I decide to not drag around a poncho I regret it greatly, though they can always take the chance & buy one in the parks when it starts to rain.

This is definitely not a "big bag of stuff" btw - a small backpack, fanny pack, or even large pockets (for a guy) can carry what they need for the group.

I agree with the other, my DD at 18 would never carry all this stuff with her. At that age they don't want to lug all that stuff around.

I see many people lugging around stuff, but I don't. When my kids were young we had a stroller to carry all the gear, but those days are over.

1. Phone (fully charged)
2. Wallet

If it rains, I buy a poncho. I don't like lugging those around. It may not rain, anyway.
I usually will buy a 20-ounce soda, then fill it with water and drink it until get tired of carrying the bottle around. I will usually repeat this later.

Sure, you may have to pay a few bucks extra for the convenience of not lugging around a bunch of stuff, but I think its worth it. How often does one visit Disneyworld? Don't you want to do it in the most comfortable way possible?
