we will be staying at OKW in a grand villa for 5 nights in september, what items do we need to bring for the kitchen? there will be 9 of us. thanks for any help and suggestions. misty :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I would bring a teflon frypan or other frypan you like to cook with, if you are planning on making a lot of meals in the Grand Villa. We were very disappointed in the quality of the cookware (take special note if you are used to using Calphalon).

Although we try to be very environmentally conscious, having paper plates, cups and napkins around came in handy with 12 people in the Villa and no one assigned to dishwasher duty.

Other than that it was well stocked, have a great time and enjoy---you will LOVE it!

A GV has all the same supplies as a one or two bedroom villa but with supplies for 12 people. We tend to cook more, especially breakfast when in a GV. We pack spices and cooking spray or wait till we get to the grocery store when we get there to stock up. The Fridge is the same size as a one bedroom but the laundry room is hugh. Good suitcase storage in there!

I too recomment a non-stick pan, in fact after our last trip in December I decided to purchase one JUST for Disney vacations (keep it with the luggage once we return). There will be 12 of us in a OKW GV this August, I may actually get another non-stick pan for this trip. Our meals will probably not be extensive, but I plan on a least one breakfast with the whole crowd, and last time we did that in a GV (with only 10 of us) things were not easy (plus I am not used to the electric stove, so non-stick is almost a necessity ;-) )

Of course linens are supplied. On you seventh night they are changed.

I agree with the non-stick pan. I bring one for two reasons, I have one that I am very comfortable with, it is huge and non-stick. I also really need a second pan for breakfast. I need one for the eggs and one for the bacon. I used to call down and ask for a second pan, I found myself much happier with my own pan. You also need coffee and filters, they only give you enough for one pot.

I think I remember there being a cookie sheet.

I usually bring spices, sugar and a non-stick pan too. I also bring along a small bottle of liquid laundry soap. They supply Tide for one load, but with my allergies, I don't like to run the risk of trying anything other than what I am used to.

Linens are provided and towels for 12 people. Towels will be changed on the 3rd day and trash will also be removed at that time. We find in the GV we need to take trash out nearly every day because of the extra people. We also like to throw towels in the laundry if we are doing whites, since it is always nice to have fresh ones.

You will need far fewer clothes packed because of the laundry. We come with very few things and wash several times. It is easy to throw a load in when you leave for the parks in the morning and toss them in the dryer when you come back for a break.

Yes, coffee and filters, very good point. I have my coffee ready to go for our August trip. It's mom's responsibility to remember the filters, though she has yet to remember :D I'm sure we'll end up buying another package this time! We never seem to remember spices either - a call to the front desk usually will get you salt and pepper at least.

This is the first time we'll have 12 in a GV - my mother, sisters (2), my friend and I are big coffee drinkers - I'm thinking we may need a second coffee pot for the mornings when everyone needs their caffine fix!

I'm curious.Do all you folks drive to Disney or do you all carry you pans on a plane???? How about the spices??? What do you recommend for all of us that fly "home"??? Thanks

When we lived in New York, I packed the pan in my checked luggage. I am not sure if you could carry it on nowadays. It could certainly be considered a weapon, maybe not as formidable as a nail clipper, but a weapon none the less. I would advise you to put pans, noxious chemicals, knitting needles, switchblades and nail clippers in your checked bags.

If the whole family is traveling (me, DH and three very large sons), I usually carry one small rolling suitcase just for snacks. I pack coffee, breakfast bars, cereal, salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly, pop-tarts, peanuts and Gatorade or Crystal Light powder to make soft drinks. It saves us from having to shop the moment we get there, and gives me an empty suitcase to bring everything I purchase back home. ;)

One other thing that I'd pack for the GV is extra laundry detergent and fabric softener.

Be careful everyone; teflon pans, unlike composite guns, will NOT make it through a metal detector!

Is carrying a concealed pan a felony????

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

We fly (live in PA), but between the five of us that nornally travel we usually can fit in a few things (coffee, etc). This is my first time taking a non-stick pan. Actually four (4) of the 12 of us ARE driving down this time, but I will still bring the pan with me.

Between the other eight (8) I'm sure we'll find SOME room (even though five (5) are FEMALE!!!

:p :p :p :p :p

I fly about twice per month and it is hard to imagine a frying pan would be a problem. These days its hard to know anymore. If you want to make sure just call the airline.

I bring a non-stick fry pan in my checked luggage. I also bring zip lock bags, coffee and filters, sugar,PAM, fabric sheets, extra detergent. Salt and pepper are no longer stocked so I bring a picnic set of S+P as well as any other spices my family likes, crushed hot peppers etc. We cook breakfast now that Surprise Mornings are gone and we aren't rushing out early.

We stayed in the GV at OKW this past January. I packed a slow Cooker. I would put a roast or chicken on in the morning, spend the day at the parks and come home to the wonderful smell of dinner! Home cooking sure tastes great after a day of park food.
