What to look for in a private school

We are going to "apply" to all 3 I think, despite the fees. The application fees are: St. Josephs is $100, Faith is $75 and Midway is $125.

Acutally I think all three schools use the classical method of teaching -- they are just using different publishers (A Beka, Saxon, etc.) for the textbooks. Honestly I wish my gut was telling me something more..........I like all 3 and any of them will probably be fantastic........I am just not sure how to eliminate even one since these 3 are the ones we can afford.

I think we are going to have the hardest time get accepted to St. Josephs only because we aren't currently practicing Catholics.

Kristine have you picked out a school yet?

lastminutemom -- I would love to send DD to Walker but it is just not possible for us. Our neighbors DS goes to Walker and they are very happy but then they also bought a Porsche to "fit in" in the carpool line............we can afford 13 years of private school (DD is an only child which helps us some) just not at Walker prices.........also a private high school will be a huge priority for us. DH went to a private Catholic high and absolutely got a first class education all the way. Another reason we are looking at the less expensive schools here in Cobb is to ensure we can afford all 13 years. Currently I SAH and our goal is for me to go back to work and "bank" the following years tuition ahead of time. So we will hopefully have tuition covered for the next year ahead by doing this. We have actually already started and should have the 2008 tuition in the bank before school starts this summer.

As you sound like you know our area has awesome schools both public and private so it is difficult to decide exactly what do and where to spend that money!

We are going to have the same problem. We are Lutheran so it is harder for us to get in some places.

Not even close. We have visited 5 schools now and none of them are really jumping out at me. If I had to pick right now, I would pick Holy Spirit. But I am still waiting for that fuzzy feeling. We are actually looking at more schools to tour because we just have not found "the one". The one we went to on Friday we rules out immediately. It was HORRIBLE! The (all of them that we saw) kids were all running around like maniacs and it was just not what we wanted in a school at all.

Well we are going to apply to all three. I dropped off my application at Faith this morning. We showed DD the kindergarden room and she really seemed to like it. Tomorrow I drop off the applications at St. Joe's and Midway. We figured if we can get into 2 of 3 then we will sit down and really hammer out the pros and cons of each school.

I am still a nervous wreck! Although our trip last week to WDW went pretty well so that was a distraction anyway.....

I just wanted to say good luck to the OP. My daugther is in first grade at her Catholic school and I love it. Granted, I don't like the price ($2000/year), but to me it's worth it. She has 15 kids in her class, 1 teacher and 1 aide that travels with her class every year. As a parent, you can't volunteer at the school unless you've taken a "safeguarding God's Children" class, which makes me feel very safe about the school and the people they let volunteer.

My daughter's birthday is 9-5 and our public school cut off is 9-1, so the Catholic school was a blessing to us. Our public schools are VERY overcrowded because we live in such a developing area.

Good luck!

Well we go for our first testing session Saturday morning at 11:15 am. It should be interesting!

Not sure if anyone is still interested or not but we did get accepted into two of three schools we were looking at........Faith released their IBST scores from this year and they are excellent.........I think we are going to end up at Faith even though it is the school that isn't closest to our home.

Connerlevismom did you guys ever make a decision? I really appreciate everyone's input -- it helped alot! Thank you!
